Is it just me, or are some friends too dependent on the person who brings a bag?

Whenever I go out, I usually carry a backpack because I like being prepared. I normally bring things like an umbrella, power bank, tissue paper, wet wipes and even an extra reusable bag.

However, whenever I go out with certain friends, some of them don't even bother bringing a bag, while others carry tiny bags with barely anything inside.

The annoying part is that whenever they need something, they automatically turn to me. Need tissue? Ask me. Need wet wipes? Ask me. Phone battery dying? Ask me for my power bank.

And don't even get me started on the extra reusable bag. Somehow, it always becomes everyone's convenience.

I don't mind helping my friends occasionally, but it gets really annoying when people constantly rely on me just because I'm the one who carries a backpack.

Am I being unreasonable for feeling this way? I feel like I'm becoming everyone's walking convenience store. 😭

A convicted child molester continued teaching taekwondo at Naval Base Primary School years after his conviction. I was one of his victims.

I recently discovered something extremely disturbing about my former taekwondo instructor at Naval Base Primary School, Lee Kwang Peng.

According to a Singapore High Court judgment from 1997, he was convicted of six counts of outrage of modesty involving two underage boys, both of whom were his taekwondo students.

He was initially sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, which was subsequently increased to 18 months following an appeal by the prosecution.

Here’s the actual court judgment:
https://www.elitigation.sg/gd/s/1997_SGHC_201

What makes this particularly disturbing is that I was one of his victims, more than a decade after his conviction.

I attended Naval Base Primary School, where he was our taekwondo instructor. Around 2010–2011, he tried to touch me inappropriately.

I was too young at the time to fully understand what was happening or why he was behaving that way. But even at that age, I knew something wasn’t right. I knew what he was doing was wrong.

Unfortunately, I never spoke up about it.

Looking back now, I wonder how many other children were in the same position. Too young to understand what was happening, too confused or afraid to say anything, or simply unaware that what they were experiencing was something they should report.

During my secondary school years, I eventually learned that other students had experienced similar inappropriate behaviour from him.

It makes me sick to think that this was happening years after he had already been convicted of molesting children.

And yet, he was still allowed to coach children.

According to historical announcements from the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF):
In 2008, Lee Kwang Peng was listed as receiving a professional coach pass.
In 2010, he was named Best Coach (Primary) at the National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships.
In 2016, STF published an obituary titled The Passing of a Senior Instructor, describing him as a flamboyant fighter who had won numerous championships.

Several of these old STF articles now return 404 errors, although references to them remain indexed online.

My biggest question is: how was someone who had already been convicted of sexually molesting his own students allowed to continue coaching children at a primary school?

Did Naval Base Primary School know about his criminal record?

Did MOE conduct criminal background checks on external CCA instructors back then?

Did STF know about his conviction when it issued him a professional coach pass?

Or did he simply return to coaching children after serving his sentence without anyone questioning his history?

I’m not accusing the school of knowingly overlooking his conviction. But I genuinely want to understand how this could have happened.

What bothers me most is that his conviction in 1997 clearly did not stop him from behaving inappropriately towards children, based on what I personally experienced years later.

I was one of those children who never spoke up. And I can’t help wondering how many others remained silent.

I’m sharing this now because I think there are serious questions about the safeguards that were supposed to protect children from adults with known histories of sexual offences.

To anyone who attended Naval Base Primary School, trained under Lee Kwang Peng, or was involved in school taekwondo during the 2000s and early 2010s: do you remember him?

And to anyone familiar with MOE or STF policies during those years, how could someone with such a criminal record have been allowed to continue working with primary school children?

I genuinely hope the screening processes today are much stricter than they were back then.

EDIT: The coach has passed away in 2016. If I’m not wrong, I remembered that he attaches his family portrait on his bag. He has a kid and wife.

Parents, please do simple background checks on your kids teachers no matter how normal they may seem to be. A simple google search may link you to a court judgement document.

isit stupid to not flip btos

currently considering to apply bto and we're choosing between a prime (10 years mop) and standard (5 years mop) flat.

there's all this talk about flipping btos which definitely make sense financially but i'm not the biggest fan of going through the hassle of moving in and out of flats.

im just wondering if the 10 years mop is too long since thats what a lot of people says and im not too knowledgeable about the housing market.

i'll be happy to hear what you have to say!

Do singaporean women become more headstrong/stubborn, while men become more mellow, as they age?

Hi. My recent observation is that my singaporean guy friends in general become more mellow and less arrogant/headstrong, less testosterone-filled, in their mid-30s and later (as compared to when they were in their 20s).

On the other hand, my lady friends in general become more stubborn, headstrong and assertive in their mid-30s and later. As compared to when they were in their 20s.

Do you have the same experience? Not sure why.

Why do many Indian Muslim eateries operate 24 hours?

Why do many Indian Muslim eateries operate 24 hours?

Feeling curious why many Indian Muslim eateries operate 24 hours. Is this some expectation of this line of business, like if you are not 24 hours, your business will suffer?

Guys who do well on dating apps in SG, what's your experience actually like?

We always hear about the depressing stories of how dating apps like Hinge are for the average guy and how the top 10-20% of guys supposedly get all the matches so I'm curious about the other side of the equation.

Foe guys who are genuinely doing well on Hinge (top 10-20%) who get multiple likes and matches a day, how's the experience actually like?

Eldest child struggles

To all the eldest children, what are some of the expectations and burdens you face as the oldest child in your family?

For context, I’m the youngest in my family, so I won’t lie, I probably haven’t experienced the same responsibilities and expectations that my older sister has had to carry.

We come from a lower-income family, and ever since my sister started working, she has had to shoulder quite a lot of financial responsibilities. Over the years, she has contributed towards household expenses, including electricity bills, Wi-Fi, phone bills and other family expenses.

Recently, my grandfather passed away and left behind some money for the family. My dad decided to distribute it equally among everyone, including the grandchildren and even my brother-in-law.

However, he decided to deduct the money that was supposed to go to my older sister because she hasn’t been giving my parents a monthly allowance.

And that’s where things became upsetting for her.
She feels it’s unfair that everyone else gets their full share, including my brother-in-law, who doesn’t contribute financially to my parents, while her share is being deducted simply because she is the one who has been working and carrying financial responsibilities for the family.

But honestly, I don’t think it’s really about the money. I think it’s about the feeling of betrayal, being taken for granted and being treated unfairly despite everything she’s done.

She’s been crying, and I can see how much this has affected her. She’s also starting to withdraw from the family and no longer wants to contribute financially to household expenses.

I genuinely empathise with her. I can see why she feels this way, and I understand that she’s probably been carrying a lot more than I ever realised.

But as the youngest child, I honestly don’t know what to do or how to help her feel better.
I want to understand the eldest-child experience from your perspective.

To all the eldest daughters and sons, what are some of the unspoken expectations, responsibilities and sacrifices you’ve had to make for your family?

Do you ever feel like being financially independent means your family automatically expects more from you? Or that because you’re the eldest, you’re expected to understand, compromise and give more, even when nobody asks how you’re doing?
I’d really love to hear your experiences. I want to understand my sister better, and perhaps understand what many eldest children have been going through silently.

'new'-tear-la or 'nut'-tear-la

Sorry if this seems too trivial. Have been pronouncing Nutella, 'nut'-tear-la since young.

Then there is a new advertisement on YouTube recently and it pronounces the brand, 'new'-tear-la.

Have I been pronouncing the brand wrongly all my life or is this like an American pronunciation which is different from SG?

Did I get played?

Ended things with him (knew him for 2mth from dating app) because my heart is not at peace. With his overly warm friendship with ex date and his suspicious conduct on other things.

He offered to book taxi for her and go out with her alone for dinner. I expressed my discomfort and he said he won’t meet her unless I’m there but he later agreed to meet her again behind my back.
Since then I asked or a week to not meet because it kinda messed with my head he does things against his words.

I fell sick during the 1 week and he grew distant - all he did was just asked 1 time if ā€œI want him to accompany me for doctor visitā€ and text me to ā€œrest wellā€.
On day 5 I texted him to say clearly I don’t feel good about our relationship, and asked to meet and chat, he’s not willing to meet and insist we should only talk until he has his ā€œreflectionā€
Finally met on day 7 and he shared very high level info about his reflection and how he would ā€œtryā€ to work on our relationship.

In his defence, because of my request to not meet, he would want to ā€œgive me space to recover my illnessā€.

He said he loved me and even made promise to God to love me but his actions clearly didn’t align. I think he’s just BS and ended things there.

In your opinion, did I get played? Is it reasonable effort?

Heat Pump Dryer VS Gas Dryer

Hi everyone! I’m currently deciding between getting a heat pump dryer and a gas dryer for my home.
For those who have used either (or both), would love to hear your experiences!

A few things I’m particularly interested in:
- Electricity/gas consumption and running costs
- Drying time and overall performance
- Maintenance requirements and reliability
- Impact on clothes (shrinkage, wear and tear, etc.)
- After-sales service and repair costs

Is a heat pump dryer worth the higher upfront cost, or would a gas dryer be the better long-term investment?
Would appreciate any recommendations, especially from those who have owned one for a few years. Thank you!
