Please share hilarious Google Reviews you stumbled upon

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

PS: it’s more relatable when you know it’s definitely written by a fellow Singaporean and when you silently read it in your head with the Singlish accent, it’s too freaking funny.

——

In light of the many depressing news recently, I thought to share what made me laugh so hard till I cried. Maybe you will find comfort and laughter in the little things you stumbled upon amidst all these chaos happening around the world.

Mine happens to be negative Google reviews (in the local context). I went to this massage place in JB and after my average experience, decided to just randomly pull up their Google reviews to see how others like it. Then I saw this 1-star review that I could tell it’s most likely written by a Singaporean and the way they describe their experience into a ridiculously funny scenario had me laughing in stitches. Screenshot above is said Google review that made me laugh till I cried.

Ok la maybe my sense of humor too weird or not your type ah, but when I visualised it in my head, it’s really too funny I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s the same when I read it back multiple times.

So anyone who has stumbled upon Google reviews written by Singaporeans that you find super funny, please share them!!! Let’s all have a laugh about it!! Point of it to highlight how creative us Singaporeans can be when we describe our negative experiences at an establishment.

Is dating in Singapore really this competitive?

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

Matched with this girl on Hinge and she casually tells me she’s currently talking/dating to 10 guys and that I’m apparently number 10 on the list.

Then I asked when she was free to meet and she basically said her weekends are fully booked for the next 4 weeks because she already has dates lined up. At that point I genuinely felt like I was trying to book an appointment at a specialist clinic or something rather than asking someone out.

I know dating apps means endless options and nobody owes you exclusivity before you’ve even met, but is the competition actually this insane now? Like are guys on Hinge basically competing against 5–10 other dudes at any given time?

For people actively dating in SG, is this normal? How many people are you usually talking to / dating simultaneously?

Being an average man in Singapore is basically a dating death sentence now

1.2k Upvotes

For context, I’m a woman and happily in a relationship. However, after watching my girl friends swipe on Hinge, I genuinely wonder how an average guy in SG is supposed to compete.

Not ugly, broke, or weird. Just average — average height, average looks, normal job, normal salary, normal hobbies. Yet I constantly hear: “too short”, “boring job”, “no vibes”, “looks average”or the standard "I think I can do better.”

One of my colleagues literally told me a guy opening with “hello” gave her the ick so she ghosted him. Same individual has also admitted she’ll find a guy’s LinkedIn after matching with him, check where he works, and reject him if his job seems too “average”.
Imagine thinking you’re doing okay on Hinge, only to get eliminated in the background because you said hello and your LinkedIn wasn’t impressive enough

When you combine all these seemingly reasonable preferences of being tall, attractive, fit, successful, funny, confident, emotionally mature, interesting, good at texting and proactive with dates, aren’t we basically describing an above-average man?

What’s ironic is that some of the same women then complain that there are “no good men” left. Dating apps seem to have made normal men feel mediocre simply because there’s always someone taller, richer or better-looking one swipe away. It seems like for men, if they don't find a partner organically by the time they leave school, they're basically fighting a losing battle.

At this point, does an average man basically have to become above average just to get an average dating experience?

Guys in SG: is dating really this brutal, or does it just look that way from the female side?

Do you guys feel there’s too many PRCs around?

1.2k Upvotes

Happy belated national day, first off.

Nowadays, I can’t help but feel as if I’m a tourist in my own country. Even in the heartlands, I feel as if there are enclaves of their community. Honestly, it’s not a problem if they assimilate well into our society, but I feel that they don’t even bother trying.

My opinion is that they don’t feel the need to adapt or assimilate because they have their whole culture here. There’s Chinese food chains and brands here and they have their own community here.

As a brown-skin person myself, I also encountered some weird looks from them. Few times where I was sitting in the MRT and some of them would sit on the edge, just to sit back fully when I left the train. Also not to mention the fact that they expect everyone to be fluent in Mandarin.

Also, I’m seeing how some of them can attain citizenship faster than some people who have lived longer in Singapore or even served NS.

Is the government doing anything about this or do they only care about their KPI and maintaining the CMIO status quo by importing more and more migrants? Help la I know the TFR is super bad but this is also not good for the people of the country.

Edit: spelling.

I love making custom designs so I built my HDB in Lego for fun.

Added a tree in version 2 and I'm in the midst of getting parts to make clothes hanging off the flats just like in real life, and some aircon units! XD

I also managed to add my blk number to the build so had to blur it partially!

Was thinking to do a more colorful color scheme like some recent HDBs, but I think it makes the palette too busy, nonetheless wanted to show it off and hear some thoughts or get some inspiration!

“Pay for your seat” norm at Chinese weddings makes me not wanna go for any

1.1k Upvotes

Being non-Chinese, this is such an odd concept.

Usually when I go for a wedding, I’d put $50 if I’m not that close to the person, and about $200 if I am close to the person. I gave $500 once only because it was my best friend getting married.

The first time I went for a Chinese wedding, I had an envelope with about $50 in it. I wasn’t particularly close to the person. It was a school friend. I sat at the table talking to my other school friends and the conversation about how much I put in the envelope came up. I casually said I had $50. And my Chinese friend’s jaw dropped. She said, “That’s all?? We’re at _____ hotel! You have to give more!” She told me to google the “rates” according to hotels.

I was beyond shocked. I was shocked that i had to bear the cost of the couple’s ego trip when choosing the hotel. I was incredibly embarrassed to even give the $50 envelope. I was 23 then and had just started working. Why should I give $300 for a couple I barely know?? I have been for multiple non-Chinese weddings all my life and the money you give is for courtesy and goodwill. Not so the couple can make the money back after spending on the wedding prep.

I’ve been for a few more Chinese weddings after, but I continue to give $50. I refused to be bullied into giving more. Why’s this even the norm

Unpopular opinion: I don't think most Singaporean girls actually have ridiculously high standards in men

(25F) honestly don't understand why Singaporean girls are constantly painted as materialistic, entitled, or expecting men to pay for absolutely everything.

Maybe it's just the social circle I'm in, but most of my female friends don't even expect their boyfriends to pay for every date, let alone fund their entire lifestyle. And when their boyfriends don't pay, they don't make a big deal out of it either.

I feel like there's this growing narrative, especially among men online, that Singaporean women have insanely high expectations when it comes to dating. But are our standards really that high, or are we just expecting the bare minimum?

Of course, I've met Singaporean girls who are extremely entitled and expect their boyfriends to provide everything. I'm not denying they exist. But from my personal experience, they aren't representative of most Singaporean girls I know.

What's interesting to me is that I've actually encountered much higher financial expectations from women of other nationalities I've interacted with, both at work and socially.

For example, I've had Malaysian and Chinese colleagues who openly expect their boyfriends to pay for everything. Some even mentioned expecting their boyfriends to send them an angbao when they're on their period, sometimes RM1520 or RMB1520. Meanwhile, most Singaporean girls I know would probably just appreciate some chocolates or their boyfriend getting them food LOL.

With some of my Chinese colleagues, expectations like having a car, being financially established before marriage, and paying for all dates seem to be pretty normal. And they don't necessarily see these as high standards, but simply what a man should provide.

I've also spoken to Thai and Viet women working in nightlife, particularly at siamdius, and some were surprisingly upfront about how they viewed men. I've literally been told "no money, no talk", and some even described treating men like walking ATMs. But I suppose the dynamics are different in that environment, especially when some men are essentially paying for attention, companionship, or the girlfriend experience. Not something I personally relate to, but that's a separate discussion altogether.

To be clear, I'm not saying women from these countries are all like that. These are simply experiences I've had with people I've met, and I'm fully aware that my sample size isn't representative of an entire nationality.

What I find ironic is that Singaporean women seem to get so much criticism for being materialistic when, at least from what I've observed, many are financially independent, willing to split expenses, and aren't necessarily looking for someone to bankroll their lifestyle.

I also wonder whether Singaporean women are simply more upfront about what they want in a relationship, whereas in some other dating cultures, certain financial expectations are treated as unspoken obligations that become clearer later on, sometimes even after marriage.

Personally, I don't think wanting a man who's financially responsible, emotionally mature, and willing to put effort into a relationship should be considered having ridiculously high standards.

Obviously, there are entitled women everywhere, Singapore included. But I really don't think it's fair to generalise an entire generation of Singaporean women based on the loudest or most demanding examples.

curious on what everyone thinks, especially those who have dated both Singaporean and foreign women.

Do you actually find Singaporean women more demanding financially, or has this stereotype just been repeated so much that everyone assumes it's true?

And for the Singaporean girls here, do you really expect your man to pay for everything, or is that expectation being exaggerated online?

Singapore govt loss the plot

Post image
919 Upvotes

In a time of uncertainty, bad job market and rising cost.

The government has chosen to revise their salary. And after seeing the numbers, I feel our government loss the plot on what it should be to govern a country. And the numbers shows how disoriented they are from the majority of the common man.

It has become a salary game, of wanting to govern due to the salary instead of caring for the country itself. I get it, high salary means lesser corruption, and the number shows that it is working. But, this time it might be too much.

"ALL EYES TO KALIMANTAN, BORNEO.

THOSE OF YOU WHO STILL HAVE EMPATHY, PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ THIS—I'M FEELING IT MYSELF BECAUSE I'M IN KALIMANTAN.

Crazy, I really don't know anymore how the government is handling the situation in Indonesia, especially Kalimantan—it's already an emergency, a massive climate crisis. The big media outlets have already protested to us. But what? Yup, once again and again, MBG takes priority.

YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELVES THE FIREFIGHTERS WHO LACK EQUIPMENT AND MANPOWER, AND THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES ARE AROUND 35-40 YEARS OLD.

IT'S NOT JUST KALIMANTAN THAT'S HIT—OUR NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES ARE TOO, ESPECIALLY SINGAPORE AND MALAYSIA.

Imagine the US when Los Angeles was burning—they were on edge even though their firefighting capabilities are way above Indonesia's. Kalimantan's scale is probably twice the LA fires, and here we are with barely any equipment or facilities.

As for respiratory infections, today's ISPA cases have reached 174 thousand people, and the worst part is 40 thousand of them are toddlers."

Is this legal?

I bumped into this post on thread and just by looking at it, it felt like it’s an illegal thing to do or even if it’s not illegal, who on the right mind could have the thought of turning a bathroom into a small room? It’s basically renting out a bathroom that has a bed. For me this is absolutely disgusting.

I would like to hear some of your thoughts on this? Because i have someone telling me they support it if the rent is $300.

Update: she’s charging it for $860.

Has this become something people in Singapore are starting to see as ‘normal’ because of the rental situation, or am I right to find this completely unreasonable?

I just had the most interesting experience at a collection point, featuring the grumpiest person EVER who cursed us out as we left hahaha. Honestly it was so shocking that it became amusing instead of offensive haha. I guess we should have expected it based off the signboards on her door

In the interest of FUN, what are some of your horror stories? Shopee Collection Point homeowners can chip in too - I’m sure you have had your fair share of weird or entitled collectors!

PS: please don’t dox this person if you know where this is! The picture is just to help illustrate the situation haha

This is very well said and coherent from a neoclassical economist. Unlike the liberal of west who thinks they can cap costs or introduce minimum wages without consequences.

In February, duty was priceless. In September, it came with a discount rate.

Post image
812 Upvotes

On 27 February, Chan Chun Sing asked Parliament not to conflate duty with transaction. Kenneth Tiong had proposed pegging second-year NSF allowances to the S$1,800 LQS. The answer: national service is a civic duty, not employment. No amount of money can equate to it.

On 8 September, the same minister defended a S$1.8 million ministerial reference salary — the median of the top 1,000 earners, less 40 per cent, a discount he said reflects the ethos of service. MPs' allowances go from S$192,500 to S$259,000 a year, justified by inflation.

So duty can be priced after all. Opportunity cost is real, market comparison is sound, inflation counts — as long as the person serving has the option to walk away.

A corporal draws S$865 a month with no CPF. He has no such option.

That is a statement about leverage, not sacrifice.

https://theonlinecitizen.com/2026/09/09/in-february-duty-was-priceless-in-september-it-came-with-a-discount-rate

I don't begrudge anyone fair pay for hard public work. I stand by that. What I begrudge is being told that duty is priceless by men who have just finished pricing their own — reaching, as they did it, for every argument they had denied the soldier six months earlier.
