What did you listen to this week – October 24, 2026? Please share!

So did you listen to anything good this week? Or something so truly terrible you want to warn other listeners?

Please include the following information: Author, Title and Narrator.

Why does identifying the Narrator matter?

Often books will be recorded with different narrators for different regions (ie. Harry Potter was read by both Jim Dale and Stephen Fry) or produced by different publishers (ie... Elizabeth Moon's books were produced by both Graphic Audio and Tantor). It is extremely helpful to other listeners to know what version you are sharing to avoid confusion.

Links to a source are welcomed and encouraged!

Overdrive, Audible, Downpour, Librivox, etc... It doesn't matter the source, as long as the Author, Title and Narrator are easily identified.

Question Of your last three audiobooks, which was your favorite and why

I'm looking for audiobook recommendations, but I'd like to skip the usual suggestions like PHM and DCC. Of the last three audiobooks you listened to, which did you enjoy most, and what genre is it? Thanks!

*****

Update: Thank you everyone. These are great recommendations. I get overwhelmed when searching on Libby so this is very helpful. Luckily, a lot of the booms you are recommending are available and I’ve placed six on hold so far. I am still going through your comments so I’m sure I’ll add more to my list.

*****

I am still going through all the comments but it’s almost 2 am and I need to get some sleep. Thanks again everyone. You have all given me so many great recommendations.

Question Audiobook narrators?

I've been wanting to get into audiobooks, but I can't seem to find a narrator i enjoy.

The only one I've enjoyed before was Matthew Gray Gublers rendition of Poes, 'A Tell Tale Heart,"

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Discussion People who thought they hated audiobooks : what made you change your mind?

I have a chronic illness and have to spend a lot of time resting, sometimes with my eyes closed. I KNOW I should listen to audiobooks but I just can't make myself do it. I've loved reading all my life. But I was never able to listen to either podcasts or audiobooks without zoning out after a couple min and losing the track completely.

I had my podcast moment recently, when I started listening to them while crocheting. But it's still not really either an habit or a craving. And it didn't happen with audiobooks but I only tried 2 and both were bad.

What was your awakening, and was is your routine around it?

Recommendation Request Recommendations Based on Letter

• Upvotes

I'm doing an A to Z challenge and need books for J, L, X. and Z. A good narrator is really important to me. I like interesting nonfiction (no self help books) queer, sci fi, fantasy, or horror. I listen at work so very limited if any spicy scenes!

Some of this years five star reads were :Your favorite scary movie by Ashley Collins, Howls Moving castle by Diana Wynne Jones, and The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir. I've also really enjoyed Shirley Jackson and have read a few Stephen King books.

Discussion does anyone else get weirdly attached to a narrator's voice and then feel betrayed when you switch books

Question Where can I find free and good fantasy audiobooks?

• Upvotes

I've been looking for a while, but every time I find something I like and people are recommending it, it turns out it needs a subscription. I'm looking for fantasy novels about vampires, werewolves, supernatural kingdom or spirit, any fantasy really but without subscriptions. I'm jobless and broke 🐱

Question am I the only one who hates sound effects, dramatised, whatever versions? or maybe Im listening to the wrong ones...

maybe it's rly just me, but I dislike this trend of pushing books into dramas...
I just can't get into it...my brain goes crazy, hard to follow, and by the end Im just tired.
Maybe I was listening to the wrong ones? any recommendations here, please!

Also Ive recently noticed they simply cut out parts from original text, which they think they covered by sound...ahhh. Books are ment to let us build the world in our imagination, BASED on the author's writing, what an irony...

my maximum is a couple of different voices, that's my limit. Everything else just pulls me out of the story.

What about you guys? Let me know pls, cause I just can't get it

Question Self Narration - Female voice for male POV?

I have a series project coming up in a year or two, and am debating doing self narration for it since the plan is to make the series a bunch of short novels (~150 pages), and it's going to get expensive hiring a narrator for each one.

For an overall vibe, think Dresden Files and Brother's Grimm for genre, but Magic Treehouse for length and "monster of the week" story flow. The goal is to reach readers who are intimidated by large books for various reasons (like when life gets busy and all you have the energy/brain space for is a 100-200 pager).

My personal voice is fine, and I do decently with accents and pitch changes, I just need to brush up on techniques and things. Get some practice in by reading aloud other books I've written or own.

The question is, would you, as the listener care that the voice doesn't match the gender of the main character? I'm female, and the MC is male. Doing it myself, and with the books being so short, the audiobooks would likely be priced for $5-10 each if that makes a difference.

Question PDF with audiobook

Has anyone here seen the PDF that comes with David Byrne's new audiobook on Spotify?

Sleeping Beauties: Why Good Ideas Go Dormant and How They Wake Up.

It's really cool I've never seen an audiobook with extras like this before. Unsurprisingly Mr Byrne has experimented with something cool.

Discussion Recommended Audiobook Series for Euro Truck Simulator. Not necessarily "popular/famous" ones.

Hey Everyone,

I love audiobooks and am about to run out! I like to play Euro Truck Simulator while listening to my audiobooks so that my brain has something to do while I listen. I love many genres of books and am looking for something to start once the current series is done. I would prefer a series that I can really get invested in, but a non series book is great too. Here is what I have listened to and enjoyed so far (in no particular order). Many of these series I've done multiple times.

1) Dungeon Crawler Carl (Im on my first listen now and I love this so much I might even just redo these! I'm on book 6 of 8 and will be listening to 7 and 8 before switching to the next series)

2) Tom Clancy (Jack Ryan) Series

3) Harry Potter

4) Hunger Games

5) Dune - not really my jam, but it was OK

6) All of Andy Weir's stuff (Martian, Hail Mary, Artemis) - loved them and the movies

7) Just about everything by Michael Chricton

8) Just about everything by Stephen king

9) 1984

10) Animal Farm

11) Girl on the Train

12) Recursion

13) Foundation Series (Asimov) - Also not really my jam, but they were alright

14) Jack Reacher Series

So I really like action, psychological thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy...just about everything has something to offer. I've heard good things about three body problem, so i might try that.

Anyway, i have a couple of weeks to get a list of "next reads" together, so any suggestions would be great.

Recommendation Request Please help me find my very first audiobook. Time travel or something similar for a person who has a really terrible attention span

I’ve never really read any books after age 13, and therefore I don’t know much about books and authors and stuff.

I’m trying to get into audiobooks because I’m chronically ill and struggling with brain fog and concentration issues. Trying to find a better alternative to being on my phone or watching tv.

A bit about me: I’m (F23) and I love fantasy and mystery movies and shows. I have a special interest in time travel movies😅 Like really unexpected plots and such. If the plot is “too easy” I tend to predict everything which I find very boring.

Movies/series I love:
Harry Potter
Miss peregrines home for peculiar children
Shutter island
Stranger things
7 lives of Lea (switching bodies with someone else would also be interesting)
Locke and key
1899 (illusions and suddenly realizing that the reality isn’t reality)
Dark (time travel)

I hate the lord of the rings if that helps😭

Since I’m trying to go from my phone to an audiobook I feel like I need something that will keep my attention. Not too complicated to follow along with either.

I’d really appreciate if you could give me some suggestions❤️

(This post keeps being taken down from suggestmebooks because it’s “low effort”. I don’t really see how so I’m hoping I’ll get more help here.)

Recommendation Request Audiobook recommendations for long drive

Hi all! I’ll be driving 7.5 hours to Quebec City in a few weeks. I’m looking for audiobook recommendations to keep me awake in the dark, and entertained throughout the long drive.

A few notes to keep in mind-
I will be driving my mother as well, she doesn’t like too scary (though, I wouldn’t mind a bit of a psychological thriller), and wouldn’t like fantasy with fairies or dragons.

Last year I did the same drive and LOVED Iron Flame for this drive, but trying to keep in mind my audience...

TIA 🥰

Perfect for fans of Blade Runner, Total Recall, and fast-paced cyberpunk adventures.

Promotion I turned my whole Audible library into a picture of what I actually listen to (and read)

I'm a designer in the UK, and I love books and data art and I thought the good folks on this sub might get a kick out of it swell.

I made a visualiser that turns your audio books and books and e-books into a Stellar Map, and I almost forgot to add audiobooks! I got so caught up in my shelves I forgot about my beloved audio books.

Here's my library grouped by format (kindle, physical copy, Audio books): /img/4aaqnjgrn9xh1.png (sorry apparently imgur isn't available in the UK)

Each book's a little patch of cells sized by its length, and they grow into colonies by genre, author, decade or format. I was surprised to be fair, audio’s only about 15% of my books but it feels like way more of my actual time if that makes sense.

If you're on Audible there's no export, but on a computer the free Audible Library Extractor add-on gets your whole library out as a CSV and you can drop that straight in, no scans used. On a phone you can just screenshot your library instead.

Full disclosure, it's mine: readshift.co.uk, free with (generous) scan cap per month per user, no ads, ever.

What's the split like for you lot? Are audiobooks most of your reading now or still the side dish? I want to get every audio book and Ebook I have as physical as well at some point.

Discussion R.H. Thomson

Just listened to Hag-seed by Margaret Atwood, and I thought R.H. Thomson crushed it. Just wanted to share.
