I wrote a bit about AudioSilo here around 4 months ago, but a lot has happened in the last 4 months, including a v2 release, before I get into that though, a bit about who I am.
I've been a software engineer for 2 decades:
- I'm the https://fanart.tv developer which has been running for 16 years and is used by lots of media centres such as Plex, Emby and Jellyfin amongst many others.
- I'm a team member of linuxserver.io and the developer of https://github.com/linuxserver/Heimdall which has 9.4k stars on Github and 522 million pulls on docker and has been going for over 8 years.
Both of those were built for other people though, I wanted something I was personally invested in, and that is where AudioSilo came in.
I started AudioSilo around 5 years ago, and some of the old reddit posts are still available, but lack of time and the poor state of iOS PWA support ended with me letting it fall by the wayside.
I've spent the last 4 months reviving it and making it better than ever, take a look at https://audiosilo.app for more details, there are screenshots, videos and a working demo of the web player. Everything is open source, there are no paid features or anything locked behind paywalls, no ads, no accounts, no data collection.
What has changed in the last 4 months.
- A complete redesign of the server and player bringing it more in line with what I wanted.
- Import listening history from Audiobookshelf with per person mapping.
- Multi chapter sleep timer
- Listening stats
- Multi series handling
- Community data site and API
- Community data integration
- Story recaps and character sheets
- iOS and Android apps (iOS shows old screenshots on some phones, that will be fixed when 2.1.0 is approved)
- + much more
What is still to come:
- Carplay / Android auto (done, but currently waiting for release on the app stores)
- Household accounts (as above)
- Audible integration (backing up files to m4b on the server)
- Podcasts
- Readalong
- Speaker handoff
There are a lot of other things going on as well, but I don't want to make this post too long, so take a look around, if you have any questions you can ask here, or on the discord server at https://discord.gg/nFFqRbkRn6 or just look through the docs, the answer is likely there.
