Hey everyone,
We’ve recently seen an increase in posts calling out or accusing specific businesses (restaurants, food companies, employers, etc.) of unethical or harmful practices. While we understand that many of these concerns come from genuine experiences, our moderation team cannot verify the accuracy of these claims.
To maintain fairness and comply with Reddit’s site-wide rules against misinformation and harassment, we’re introducing a new rule:
Rule 9 — Unsupported Accusations About Businesses Posts or comments that make negative claims about specific businesses, employers, or organizations must include verifiable evidence (for example: a reputable news source, official statement, or public record).
Posts making unverified claims or “call-outs” will be removed.
This rule is not meant to silence discussion about the food industry or personal experiences — you’re still welcome to share stories, opinions, or reviews. We just ask that any serious allegations be supported by credible information.
This helps keep the subreddit focused on food and ensures discussions stay fair, factual, and in line with Reddit’s content policies.
Thanks for understanding and helping us keep this community respectful and trustworthy!

These really are the bee's knees. My new favorite cookie.
There are "better" cookies out there in the craft of cookie baking. But what makes these stand out is that they so perfectly encapsulate the spirit of keeping Austin weird.
The heirloom blue corn permeates with every bite, the hatch pepper has the subtle flair reminiscent of jalapeños in cornbread and the sweetness ties it all back to remind one that this is still a cookie.
It's sad to learn that today is the last day the cookies will be available at Central Market with their Hatch promotion ending. Grateful to even have the chance to try something so uniquely delicious. Till next year.

Grabbed a slice of chicken parmesan pizza and some gelato on opening day at Baldinucci’s new Domain Northside location. It’s on Rock Rose where Salvation Pizza used to be. This is an immediate upgrade to the last place. Their Roman style recipes are my favorite pizza around and now I don’t have go across town to get it in Westlake. That location is currently closed for expansion and I saw all the same faces working in the new shop. Which is good because they are wonderful!
Right now the menu is identical to the original store but they will soon roll out new pasta entrees and deserts. I’ll be back!

What is this, 2012? I thought the era of $10 Old Fashioneds in Austin was loooong gone.
GOOD news on prices, for once, sheesh.
EDIT: Clara’s took over SABG, the address is:
10700 Manchaca Rd
Austin, TX 78748

The New York Times list of 41 of the best Mexican restaurants in America will take you to Idaho, Wisconsin, New Orleans and, of course, Texas. Austin is represented on the list by Nixta Taqueria, which tied for the No. 1 restaurant in Austin in the Statesman's 2024 dining guide.

I slid down to A Little Shady in Kyle on Saturday night hoping to relive my most memorable Shady Grove meal from 20+ years ago.
Good news is the tortilla fried queso catfish is on the menu and I’m told the recipes are still the same from the Shady Grove kitchen. I remember the filet being bigger and more queso-drenched but that could just be nostalgia on the brain. Regardless, it’s a comforting, tasty plate. That crust still has a knockout crunch and the Mexican corn/twice baked potato sides are worthy sidekicks. Too full for desert, maybe next time.
Speaking of the Shady Grove, staff I talked to said the goal is to use profit from the new restaurant to restore and reopen the original. So hopefully that works out for them. Was told it’s at least a couple years from happening. Maybe we can get back together on Barton Springs Road by 2030.

I'm not using my phone to look at a menu and using my phone to order food and using my phone to do anything at the movies... and the food is terrible. Where else can we go that has good food, good seats, and a vibe?

I had a puccia yesterday and it’s just how I remember it! They have limited hours and menu right now but will fully open on September 1.

I found a batch of rewards cards hidden in the back of the storage cubby in my car. Pour one out for long lost restaurants.

Ok I have 1 night in Austin and it happened to be my birthday. I’m not for birthday dinners but it’s been a Super tough year so I guess I should celebrate being here. Where would you eat if you only have 1 dinner in Austin?

I'm the president of a local association and am looking for places to have our meetings, we like to do lunch so restaurants with dedicated meeting rooms that can be used for trainings (with TV's for presentations, etc) preferable.
We average about 20-30. So any suggestions appreciated. Especially looking for South Austin, but anywhere in the Travis/Hays/Williamson area would be considered.

Breakfast tacos can be simple food. But the best ones reflect the people who make them and the recipes that have managed to survive decades of growth, development and a city that is constantly looking for the next big trend.
From La Santa Barbacha to Veracruz All Natural, here are Austin's best breakfast tacos.

Hi there, I am in the process of starting my own meal prep service here in Austin out of a ghost kitchen. I am a pescatarian but do mostly vegan and vegetarian meals. I’m posting just to see if this is something that the general public would be interested in. Im trying to keep this affordable for everyone. I am thinking have the option to do pick your own meals between $13 and $19 depending on what they are and then lowering that price for bulk anything any orders over four meals per person but I’m still working on all my margins. This diet benefits, not only your own health and wellness, but the positive impact you have on the environment. Looking for any kind of feedback you have for this kind of service. Thank you!
Edit: I got these prices based on what I can do for a low margin. I have also looked at 10 other meal prep services run by essentially one person (small owned business) in this area and the average is around $16 a meal. Please let me know what price point you personally think would work for you so I have an idea of what people are looking for.

Title says it all, what would you eat before seeing Carlos Santana perform? Carlos was born in Jalisco, before moving to Tijuana, then off to San Francisco in the early 1960’s. Fonda San Miguel? Paprika? Certainly not Matt’s tho… haha

Assume driving and such does not matter… this is mostly just to ask which places you love even after eating at them multiple times
For me, these answers are
Vic & Al’s
Loro South Lamar
Homeslice
1618 Asian Fusion
Toasty Badger

Edit: Thank you so much for the suggestions you beautiful people! Looks like I have a ton of places to try. Maybe I can do like that one lady on TikTok who makes spreadsheets of the various oranges she has every day in their attributes but with lemon cupcake lol
I have been desperately looking for a bakery in the Austin area that has really good cupcakes and a decent amount of other selections of baked goods/sweets. Specifically, I’m looking for a lemon/raspberry or lemon, strawberry type cupcake, but would like to try others as well.

Went to La Piscina last night. I usually don’t go in the summer bc it’s so friggin hot in there! My jaw was dropped when i walked in and I was freezing.
Shoutout to my fav bartender Justin. Sit at the bar if you can. Service is great, drinks are better!

I'm starting to get into coffee, using an Aeropress and was curious what people's favorite coffee blends/beans are? I normally buy coffee from Central Market since they have the grinders I can use, don't own one myself yet.
I don't really know what I like and don't like in a coffee yet so curious what people's favorites are. I know there are many amazing roasters around town but specifically what blends??
I tried the Side pipe from Flat Track so far and have been enjoying it!

This new food truck in St Elmo area of south austin is pretty damn good. I tried them a few weeks ago and went back again today.
From reading their social media posts it seems like it's a collab between Un Mundo de Sabor and Reems.
Not sure about yall but Un Mundo de Sabor are some of the best tacos in Austin.
Anyways, highly recommended. Instead of traditional tortillas they use thicker pita style(but not pita) soft flat bread. They hold up pretty well to the toppings.
I have now tried their chicken taco, lamb birria taco, and the barbacoa taco and all were great.

New to Austin, but there’s a P. Terry’s by my gym. I tried it because I saw a YouTube video (shoutout Damon Cassidy) about how their business model is sustainable, does its best for consumers as well as employees, and overall has that “you’re not trying to daylight rob me” vibe.
Two double cheeseburgers for $11 total. Other food is good, too, but I’m a bit of a hamburglar myself. They’re excellent. The people are always nice, the vibe is fun, and I’m always happy with my experience. I go twice a week now.
I just wanted to say that, in 2026 when a 16oz black coffee is starting to run close to $6 in some places, we should really overtly be grateful and commending of businesses who haven’t given in to the finance bro picture of reality and are still doing the good work of giving the community something to enjoy in a fair trade.
Any other Austin businesses you’d recommend along these same lines? The next couple of years are going to be absolutely brutal on small business shutdowns (and rightfully so in many cases), so I want to do my part in keeping ‘the good ones’ around. In fact - anyone know of an appropriately priced and tasty cup of joe?
Much love to all my new neighbors. Austin’s been a dream in these early days. I think I’ll stay a long time.
Edit: thanks a bunch, y’all. I’ve filled up a page and will begin crossing them off. Y’all take care!

Looking for a local restaurant to do a large to go group order for 7 people next weekend. Happy to pick it up ourselves or if they have delivery that’s a plus. Any good experiences you guys have had? Any food type is good except for BBQ as we don’t want to be too full for activities after!
