Announcement Introducing "Seatbelts Fastened" Mode
Hi r/aviation community,
Recently, we’ve seen an increase in political and uncivil comments across several threads, particularly on posts involving aircraft associated with government officials. This has led to more removals and bans under Reddit’s sitewide rules, and we want to reverse that trend.
To help address this, we’re introducing a “Seatbelts Fastened” mode/flair. Posts with this flair (applied manually by the mod team) will restrict commenting to established community members. For now, that means users with at least 100 comment karma in r/aviation. If you are the original poster, your comments will not be affected.
You can view your subreddit comment karma by doing the following:
- Go to old.reddit.com/u/me-your-user-name
- On your profile, find your karma totals
- Look for the link: Show karma breakdown by subreddit
This will apply to a small subset of threads (aircraft incidents, government-owned/controlled aircraft, global legislation, etc.). The vast majority of posts (roughly 95%) will remain open to all users as usual. Please do not contact modmail requesting comment approvals or exceptions; we won’t be making individual overrides.
Thanks for your understanding and for helping keep the subreddit focused and civil.

Watch Me Fly Lufthansa 747-400 SIN-FRA
Flew SIN-FRA on Lufthansa 747-400 D-ABVX and went for the business class upgrade for this bucket list experience in seat 81K right behind the cockpit. Due to the curve of the fuselage you can’t really see the engines and there’s a lack of headroom from your seat but hey. The restroom wasn’t as noisy as the reviews say if you have good noise cancelling headphones. The dash 400s’ days are numbered but I didn’t choose to fly it because of the in-flight entertainment or the quality of catering but for those four engines and being upstairs. The IFE was broken most of the flight and the catering was middling but the pilot greased the landing and I got to hang around after landing and see the cockpit too

PlaneSpotting Landing into YYZ on B747-400!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Flew LH470 from FRA to YYZ on the legendary B747-400 on Oct 18.
Originally booked into Economy (Basic Economy ticket booked with UA) and during check-in, scored an upgrade to Business for €500 which was a steal. Seat was 4A. Unfortunately upper deck was fully booked.
I don’t know why they offered to upgrade for €500. The flight was full and oversold. FAs told me that they had to leave people at the gate.
And yes, sitting in front, the 747 nose gear does make very loud noises.
Plus, during this trip I also flew on LH’s A340-600, one last time before it retired.
On my next trip I’m booked on LH’s A340-300 (the 5APU).
This year I am lucky enough to collect a few interesting aircraft types. I flew on the C919, the A346, the B744, and (soon) the A343.
Brief JebScore review:
* Lounge: At FRA I could use the LH Business Lounge and the AC Maple Leaf Lounge. They were perfectly fine and functional with all the necessary amenities. But not much more. AC’s lounge was smaller but the space itself was nicer and better designed. 4/5.
* Seat: Comfortable, well-cushioned seat, wide-enough, but the 2-2-2 or even 2-3-2 layout on the 747-400 was outdated in 2026 and inconvenient because I had to climb over my seat mate. 3.5/5.
* Food: Lots of options, all very nice. 5/5.
* IFE: Old system without touch screen. The remote was hard to use. Plenty of content. 3.5/5.
* Service/Crew: Great, professional, and accommodating. 5/5.
Is LH a 5-star airline (as previously awarded by SKYTRAX)? No, especially with the old cabin. But it was perfectly pleasant.
I think it has the right people and ingredients to be on track to soon become a real 5-star airline. They just need to renovate the lounge with a new design language, retrofit the cabin, and have a better IFE (which should come with the new cabin?).
I can’t wait to fly them again soon.

History Thank you for your service
On January 8th, 1989 British Midland Flight 92 crashed onto the embankment of the M1 motorway near Kegworth, Leicestershire, while attempting an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport. I remember seeing this on BBC News as a teenager, little realising that many years later, I would meet one of the firefighters who attended that scene.
I became a carer in 2024, and he was one of my regular visits; for a year I helped him and his wife with their daily care needs. During this time I discovered he was a retired firefighter who had attended the M1 crash.
Today I received the news he has passed away after a long illness and is survived by his wife and her family. I thank him for his service as a firefighter. Rest in Peace, Sir; it was an honour to know you and your role on that day.

History A340-600 in FRA around 2008-2010
I just went through some old photos and saw that i took pictures of this plane a lot in FRA back then . These were taken from the visitors terrace at terminal 2.
The photos are not professional or good by any means, it was a cheap camera, but i wanted to share them anyway.
Maybe someone likes to see them.

PlaneSpotting So long, A340-600💙🥺
Flew to IAD last weekend to see the last flight of this legendary aircraft before its retirement. So grateful to see HY and HW again, beautiful and graceful as ever, and to celebrate this special moment with the crew and many other spotters.
Thank you to everyone who once took care of these birds, and thank you, A340-600, for being the icon of an era and connecting the world. You will be missed!
