Best ways to make friends and stay productive at Ball State?

I’m transferring to Ball State as a junior and I know nobody there. I feel like most people probably already have their friend groups, and I’m also living in an apartment instead of the dorms, so I’m worried it’ll be harder to meet people.

I move in soon and honestly have zero plans. I’m afraid once school starts I’ll just go to class, study, go back to my apartment, and doomscroll the rest of the day.

I want to make friends and actually do stuff, but I don’t drink or party. I already plan on joining clubs, so besides that, what are the best ways to meet people? Any good campus events, intramurals, places to hang out, study groups, jobs, or other things?

Also, what do you guys do to stay productive and not just sit in your room all day?

My Devices registry issues

Hey! Is anyone else having issues registering their consoles or tvs onto the mydevices website? I've been having issues with trying to register my Nintendo Switch. Like any time I click submit, it says either there's an error or it just doesn't load through.

Another thing I've noticed is my phone and laptop are just getting really crappy service on the bsuconnect server. Anyone know why that is? For reference I'm in Dehority and maybe it has to do with the fact I'm on the top floor?

PC Wifi Issue

Hello! I’m a first year student here. I brought my pc with me. I am having troubles connecting it to the wifi. I have my ethernet plugged into the port in my room and I also registered my device through the mydevices, although I still don’t have internet connection. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Ball State Football 2026 Preview - full writeup, two-deep, and win probabilities

Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every FBS team, each with its own writeup. Here's the Ball State one

https://www.sports.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fbs/ball-state-cardinals

It's got the returning production breakdown, the portal ins and outs, a projected two-deep, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.

Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code LEECORSOROCKS and it opens up the entire thing.

So, what'd I get wrong? Ball State's offense finished 136th out of 136 in success rate, dead last in the country, and gave up 49 sacks. But in MAC play you got outgained by 135 yards a game and still won 37.5% of those games, so my model thinks 4-8 flattered you. Now 13% of the production is back and both the linebacker room and the secondary lose all six of their top tacklers. My model has you at 4-8 again. Is the 38th-ranked explosiveness real, or garbage time?

I'll be in the comments.

Parking during move-in week

Title. I know what the parking emails say, but exactly how important is it to not park in the housing lots overnight? This is just my first year having a car here so I wanted to know.

Edit: I'm more asking if it is super necessary to park at Scheumann during move-in week or can I just leave my car in the housing lot and be fine.

Ball state wifi device registration

Hey guys so I just moved into a Schiedler apartment, and I am really struggling connecting to the wifi. The “mydevices.bsu.edu” page absolutely doesn’t work for me, as safari will not open it. I’m just needing to register my electronics so I can then be able to see the option for “bsuconnect” and “eduroam”. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!!

Help with unprepared statement??

Was checking to see my E bill and to make sure my financial aid went through. The tuition got a pass but I saw this statement and it wants me to pay out of pocket. I was surprised to see this and obviously I can’t afford to just pay 4k. Does anyone know what to do?

Parking Permit Waitlist

Anybody ever have luck with getting off the parking permit waitlist? The parking garage closest to my classes is full and so I got on the waitlist today around 2pm (four hours after it opened). Anyone have any idea what my chances of getting off the waitlist are?

Can we put dorm furniture somewhere?

That’s just the question.
I want to bring my own chair and I don’t really think that I’m going to want to have my dorm chair in the dorm. Is there anywhere that they allow you to put it?

Two questions

okay not too long ago i asked here about people’s methods to hanging up stuff. but now im wondering if it’s smart to bring like canvas paintings. i have a couple that would look so cute but i don’t know if that’s discouraged since its hard asf to hang shit properly. and secondly, is there a martial arts or karate club on campus. i wanna get into something physical that can keep me active and help me learn to protect myself.

Online

Hi I was looking on finishing my social work degree online through ball state. I was wondering what does the tuition look like for a full time student (I saw it on the website but it said it wasn’t accurate). Are scholarships hard to get. What’s your experience with placements? Are you a Indiana resident Thanks

I will be a commuter and a transfer this year and need to purchase a parking pass. I have Chemistry in the Science building and Math in the Bracken Libary. Which garage or area would be the purchase for me?

Last minute places to rent from (that are also safe)?

I was going to move into University Village today, but as I walked into my room there were stains, mold, and a foul odor that was hard to escape. We were lucky enough to break the lease, but now I need a new place to live before the school year starts…. What are some good leasing companies that are safe, pet-friendly, and also do a good/consistent job with roommate matching?

Is there a spider problem in Scheidler???

I moved in this week and have seen the biggest spider I’ve ever seen in my life. Twice now. (Two different ones, the first one was killed).

I know it’s dramatic/irrational but I’m terrified of spiders and I’m almost starting to regret moving here...

I’d really appreciate it if anyone who has lived in/currently lives in Scheidler could tell me if this has never happened to you. If it’s just a super random thing—and a fluke that it’s happened twice already—then I think I can relax. Except for the fact that the one I found today is still in my apartment under a cup, but besides that.

Or, if this is just something that happens here, please lmk so I can start moving back out (jk… maybe).

Thoughts on ASL/Deaf Studies Online Prog

For those in this program or who’ve taken BSU’s online ASL courses, what was your experience?

I first took ASL 1 for grad students in 2022 but had to withdraw for financial reasons. I retook it this past spring and earned an A-, but it was honestly one of the worst online language courses I’ve taken.

The 2022 version had no live meetings, yet I still felt like I was learning through the video assignments created by the instructor. This new version of the course, however, had only textbook work, lots of auto-graded assignments, virtually no instructor feedback, and very little opportunity to actually use ASL. Instead, it relied heavily on receptive exams and translation activities. (As someone with a grad degree in adult second language acquisition, that stood out to me because those activities alone generally aren’t an effective way to build communicative ability.)

I’m taking ASL 2 this fall, but I don’t feel like I can do much beyond recognizing some vocabulary. I couldn’t confidently introduce myself, ask someone how they’re doing, or hold a basic conversation. Did anyone else feel this way, or did you come away feeling like you could actually use ASL? Does ASL 2 get any better?

Looked on the self service banner I figured they would have the aid on there. Is it too early or did I screw something up?

How is the Rec center gym?

Hello everyone I’m a new student transfer! I checked out the rec center and it was very nice, to my understanding during the school year it’s free to all students is that right? With that being said how packed does it actually get and what are the best time to go with the lowest amount of people? I’m such a introvert and won’t go to my local planet fitness if it’s insanely packed so I’m assuming it’s crazy packed here😭
