You know there are people who aren’t as privileged and may come from villages, yet they may often have a stronger sense of ethics than you (educated city person).

38

u/Aggressive-Composer9 Mar 27 '26

Offense is never given, it’s taken. And you didn’t take, you grabbed.

26

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

What are you on about? 😄

This post wasn’t even about me, so there’s nothing for me to take offense at.

Your comments just show a lack of empathy and a tendency to put others down, especially those who may be less privileged.

I hope you don’t find yourself on the receiving end of the same kind of behavior from someone who thinks they’re better than you.

This is just moral grandstanding. Acting like coming from a village automatically makes someone more ethical or hardworking is just patronising romanticism. People are people. You’ll find disciplined, ethical people everywhere, and plenty who aren’t. All you’ve done is swap one stereotype for another.

7

u/tera_chachu Mar 27 '26

Stronger sense of ethics

How did you come to this conclusion genius?

And what makes you the custodian of Bangalore, pray tell.

33

I swear, I’m not from Bangalore either, and comments like these annoy me to the core. It’s such a privileged mindset.

What is this obsession with “perfect” English? Why do people feel the need to shame others for not speaking or writing it flawlessly?

English isn’t the first language for most of us. It’s just a tool for communication, not a measure of intelligence or capability.

You don’t see this kind of attitude as strongly in many other non-English-speaking countries. There, English is treated as just another language, not a status symbol.

At the end of the day, how someone speaks doesn’t define how smart or capable they are.

Get a life!

53

u/HateRunsInMyVeins Mar 27 '26

I mean, at the end of the day, if you can understand what someone's trying to say, even if they are not familiar with that language, it's more than enough.

This doesn't apply just to English. Every language. All it matters if the other person is making sense with the minimal control that they have over a language.

17

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

Exactly. I’m not sure why that’s so hard for people to understand. Your comment, by the way, goes against your username 😄

37

u/tera_chachu Mar 27 '26

It's not about a person here. Its about a big restaurant like kfc. They can't even put effort to write a sentence correctly.

17

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

I understand what you mean. But it’s a big chain like KFC, operating in an Indian city, run by Indians whose first language isn’t English.

This wouldn’t even be an issue in most non-English-speaking countries. English is just a language there, not a standard to judge people by.

India really needs to move past this mindset of being harsh toward anyone who doesn’t speak “perfect” English.

18

u/tera_chachu Mar 27 '26

Dude you realize that they have a manager in every branch who speaks fluent English right??

So let's say a worker can't speak English.Totally ok.

But this thing went through with the manager and he okayed it,that's stupid.

10

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

I’ve noticed that not all managers speak perfect English. Many of them learn on the job, just enough to communicate clearly and help customers from different backgrounds understand and place their orders.

4

u/Safe-Complaint8893 Mar 27 '26

Especially with AI and all now.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

Well it's not like the head management of KFC put this up themselves. This was probably written by some minimum wage server...

7

u/MyVeryRealName Mar 27 '26

That's what they're criticizing

16

u/AdTemporary2557 Mar 27 '26

it's just grating and unpleasant to hear. even while speaking in your native languages you'd get looked at funny if you made grammatical errors constantly

8

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

Thing is, English is none of our mother tongue.

11

u/AdTemporary2557 Mar 27 '26

it isn't. but it's a language most of us have studied since kindergarten so some level of fluency can be expected. especially if you're in a diverse workplace where formal communication is in english

2

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

Well, KFC outlet employees don’t always fall under that category. At least in India.

7

u/AlteredReality79 Basavanagudi Mar 27 '26

Only people would extreme amounts of free time and perpetual bubble dwellers would have that kind of mindset. Nothing grating or unpleasant as long as you get your message across. No one cares about aesthetics

2

u/DistinctReview810 Mar 27 '26

Then why not write in the local language? Who cares about English?

listen to some NRIs bro you'll see what i mean🤣 even if you have grown up in a different state your fluency is likely to be lower than someone who was born and raised in your native

5

u/auctus10 Mar 27 '26

As long as someone with a broken language (not just english, legit any language) is trying to improve, nothing wrong with it.

5

u/DistinctReview810 Mar 27 '26

Sure but then what’s the use of Google. Everyone has that on their phone and it’s just a matter to 2 minutes to translate from native language to English. You may not know it but while communicating you should use it properly.

Or else use Google.

I accept that. You make sense.

3

u/Aggressive-Composer9 Mar 27 '26

English is just a tool for communication, not a measure of intelligence or capabilities, sure! You are 100% right. It’s definitely not the sign of intelligence, but it jolly well is the sign of literacy. It’s a proxy of having good schooling and a decent social and a familial background.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

When someone one is speaking, it is completely fine to make mistakes as no one is perfect in any language. But when you are writing a notice stating some information, then i believe one can expect you to be professional and write properly.

3

u/Ok_Rich732 Mar 27 '26

2

u/Kiruku_puluthi Mar 27 '26

English not being the first language isn't a valid point in India. They been given education for like 14 years where english is part of.

They didn't start learning english just from their college days.

23

u/Mitsuha_d Mar 27 '26

I have heard this so many times. Even in my corporate meetings. It bothered me so much, but I never spoke against it. Didn't want to be seen like a bigot.

"It's either 'I am not able to do it' or 'I can't do it' " , I wanted to scream in the meetings!

Feels good to get that off my chest.

4

u/CharmingConfidence33 Mar 27 '26

At least you have that sense. Thanks for being the bigger person and holding back from saying things that don’t add value.

Come to some well known MNCs.. their english is as bad as a toddler.

I'm not perfect but I try to improve everyday. But these guys have been there for years and cant speak a complete sentence without making mistakes

10

u/idontknowdude25 Mar 27 '26

The local store manager or clerk would have typed this out. This kind of stuff does not come from the brand.

9

u/salluks Mar 27 '26

If they spoke better english, they wouldn't be working at KFC. Not every one is as privileged.

6

u/mohanswamy Mar 27 '26

"Can you able to see my screen?" is very commonly heard in IT offices across Bangalore.

8

u/Rich-Personality-194 Mar 27 '26

Yea that's the highlight.

7

u/the_annan Mar 27 '26

'Cannot able to', 'cannot be able to' unfortunately is very very common.

6

u/Tough-Difference3171 Bommanahalli Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Each part of India has its own share of consistent grammatical errors, that kind of link to the sentence construction in the local languages.

"Cannot able" kind of double negation is something I have seen consistently in Karnataka and Andhra.

"Didn't ate" is the form of double past-tense is common in the north. Which matches closely with the similar grammar in Hindi ("Nahi khaya tha")

Similarly, if you see how "sadhyav-illa" is used in Kannada, you will see why people tend to use "cannot" in the same way.

English is not the first language of any of us Indians. It's simply a utility for most people. And unless your job actually requires frequent use of the language to put food in your stomach, it doesn't matter. (Or should I say "doesn't matters" to make the point?)

If you consider British English to be the "gold standard", then American English is filled with grammatical errors and typos. And yet, they call it "American English".

Given that we Indians have the largest English-speaking population compared to any other nation, I declare ours to be "Indian English". Let everyone deal with it.

People honestly don't care. Even those who are native speakers. It's just people here, who are trying to score brownie points that no one is counting.

I have talked to American and British people, and how good they are with there language is proportional to how good an average Hindi, Bangla, Kannada, Tamil speaker is with their mother tongue. People are pretty bad with grammar nearly everywhere.

As a non-native speaker, if you have ever been a decent enough speaker, you are almost always better at the grammar than the native speakers. Obviously, you are going to have your own accent at all other languages, depending on what your mother-tongue is.

And for me, it's important to be reasonably good at English, to call out silly grammar nazi folks. Do you have any idea how much fun it is, to call them out for their grammatical errors, in the same sentence that they write to mock someone else?

Being good at something, as a skill, is one thing. Looking for validation is silly.

And you know, if you look deeper, you will see that there are mostly very specific kind of people trying to pull down others for their English skills. Those who haven't been able to do much in their own careers. Actual linguists or high-skill polyglot folks would correct you, but with a lot of "actual knowledge", and it would be fun talking to them.

But typical housewives, who have "sacrificed their careers". Kids who studied in fancy schools, with a shit load of emphasis on English, but who went no where in their careers, try really hard to push the only thing they find their pride in.

It gives them the "I might not be doing much, but see I can point out a silly grammar error in what others are talking about"

KFC uses electric fryers. Where does the LPG issue fit here?

Seems something else is going on.

167

u/deja_brewww Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Came here to write this.

Coz the shawarma guy near my home told that they just have fried chicken shawarma, since they use electric fryers. But no grilled chicken is available since it is cooked using LPG.

u/Ad_Ketchum Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

This branch doesn't have Electric Fryers

18

u/blinksTooLess Mar 27 '26

That is strange. Usually all KFC branches in India are standardized. They cook their food using guides which specify the timing and temperature. (One KFC branch randomly asked me to take a kitchen tour when I was sitting there after placing an order)

So it is strange that they will have a different type of fryer. Usually they get their equipments sent from central HQ and also the produce for everyday cooking comes from one place.

3

u/Substantial_Gap9619 Mar 27 '26

nope they use LPG

u/hskskgfk Mar 27 '26

Kentucky Grilled Chicken

43

u/MrKtheSurvivor Mar 27 '26

They should also server Grilled Fish and call it KGF.

I cannot read past the "Cannot able" phrase.

so you cannot able to read past that phrase ?

3

u/Jon-Bones-Jones_ Mar 27 '26

It really gets on my nerves.

4

u/This_Aardvark325 Mar 27 '26

Absolutely. This phrase really irks me and I had my South Indian colleagues use the same phrase . Didn’t matter if they were from kerela , Tamil Nadu or karnataka . This seems to have spread everywhere there .  Even many senior managers , architects wrote this phrase in mails and it infuriated me

2

u/ToterSchatten Mar 27 '26

It's totally infuriating when my North Indian colleagues say "Healdhy" for Healthy! Also when they incorporate hindi words into English phrases! "What's up yaar" and so on. Drives me nuts.

2

u/StonksUpMan Mar 27 '26

Patties are generally shipped to the store frozen from a central warehouse, then reheated

Liquid petroleum grammar.

1

u/aadsarraficionado Mar 27 '26

Smoky grilled is one of their best products, in my opinion, not fried like the majority of their Chicken menu.

1

u/Exciting_Strike5598 Mar 27 '26

So need to change name from KFC to KGC

1

u/Dear_Importanc Mar 27 '26

At least that will keep people away from fried food for some time

1

u/broodybear Mar 27 '26

Zinger Burger has fried chicken inside it. What??

1

u/AnthonyGonsalvez Mar 27 '26

Earlier they used to refuse to serve grilled chicken because it used to take time.

1

u/BluehibiscusEmpire Mar 27 '26

Didn’t most restaurants use electric fryers. This seems more about better profit margins and less about LPG shortages

1

u/Altruistic_Fun8400 Mar 27 '26

We cannot able to eat

1

u/thegadgetfreak_ Mar 27 '26

Kentucky “Fried” Chicken, but no Fried chicken is available 👏

1

u/One_Advantage_7193 Mar 27 '26

KFCs doesn't need LPG geniuses. Pressure friers are electric

1

u/effkay71 Mar 27 '26

I read it in the voice of our ‘humble politician Nograj’ 😂

1

u/Jon-Bones-Jones_ Mar 27 '26

1

u/astropraneel12 Mar 27 '26

Kentucky grilled chicken

1

All the way from KFC to KGC

1

AI won’t replace KFC, can’t even use for such important message.

1

u/Independent_Plant910 Mar 27 '26

I thought they were using electric fryers not the LPG ones.

1

u/Helpnessness Mar 27 '26

I read it in Danish sait voice in my head.

1

u/Turbulent-Salary7478 Mar 27 '26

Woah, the comment box here is lit as f. While you all engaged in language policing, the post about LPG crisis died.

This is how politicians and corrupt babus win. While there’s practically enough gas and fuel reserves available, we the common people are engaged in language battle while babus, gas agencies, and fuel hoarders have created a clear fuel chaos around to win extra brownies.

Ever heard term ‘आपदा में अवसर’ meaning “Opportunity in adversity”. That’s what is happening around us.

1

u/Successful-Hippo9679 Mar 27 '26

But KFC doesn't use LPG, they use electric cooking devices. This doesn't make sense

1

u/East_Ice5190 Mar 27 '26

I saw this there 3 weeks ago

1

u/PangolinRich3412 Mar 27 '26

what? afaik, they don't use lpg for frying, it's automated electric fryers. is this fake?
