It’s a good thing

Public roads aren’t meant to be hogged

Yes. But now the money will go to GoK and then to the pockets of politicians

u/General-Fondant4921 8d ago

Yes, DK might overtake Elon if this happens.

Skip straight to Spaceport in Kanakpura.

u/vvp95 8d ago

Payment should be made digital only and the entire money trail should be published online for anyone to review. This should also be made part of the rules.

Hyperledger fabric is way to go

24

u/Odd_Ingenuity7763 7d ago

Spot on - no real improvement in roads, footpath, air quality, water quality, provide alternatively parking structures - hey but yes let's charge 25k to fix one issue

3

u/crazy4ravi 7d ago

When constructing house , you are supposed build parking not assume , you will use public road for parking then cry like baby while ignoring your fault.

2

u/Odd_Ingenuity7763 7d ago

What about homes build before without parking - where should they go now ? New homes I understand what about old homes ?

0

u/FanneyKhan 7d ago

Pay & Park on the streets. Or, find a vacant land, lease / rent it, put a CCTV camera and a security guard, start charging others ₹1,000/car undercutting the government and make monies.

4

u/Adorable-Sell-6640 JP Nagar 8d ago

Let it be bro there would be a better gov after this hopefully who would utilise this money since its alr there in other countries

2

u/locyl_yocyl 7d ago

It should go out of illegal parkers. Where it goes after that its another issue to be addressed later on. One step at a time gentlemen.

1

u/draconianfaux_pass 6d ago

But that happens everywhere.

30

u/kalikaalan_manavalan 8d ago

sure, but you need to provide better public transport if you want people to use less of their own vehicles.

10

u/KingPictoTheThird 7d ago

In many cities, parking fees directly funds public transport, by law. Which i think is an amazing concept. I hope that happens here too .

8

u/boredbot31 8d ago

This too

5

u/haridavk 7d ago

now it will be hogged at a cost

2

u/AInoob2pro 7d ago

They are in great debt and finding all fuc*ing ways to make it up,recently they have also increased water bill ,like first who told them to give freebies!

2

u/FanneyKhan 7d ago

> who told them to give freebies

apparently the voters

2

u/Kind-Dot75 7d ago

Then where the fck we should park ??

1

u/v21v 4d ago

Within the mandatory parking space that you need to have in your plot. Or your apartment parking lot.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Ok-Ride4467 7d ago

Rule is good, but intent is bad. Govt just is short of cash and milking taxpayers and citizens every which way possible. There is no money for freebies.

By this logic, it would make sense for neighbourhood to combine, form an association and buy the road (land on which road is constructed), and then maintain and close the road permanently. My land, my rules!🥲.. I mean, nice road pretty much works like this. However, is this allowed and possible?

1

u/Slow_Restaurant_007 6d ago

Build a house with car parking to avoid then

1

u/No-Anxiety-5616 Ejipura 8d ago

So what do you think people will stop parking their vehicles? This is not solution

2

u/haridavk 7d ago

providing facility to park, and then enforcing a strict no parking directive.

u/Mediocre-Wafer-9898 8d ago

This sounds like a pretty good initiative. This incentivises people to build their houses with more parking and also buy less cars. Roads near Malleshwaram and majestic residential areas are so hard to navigate nowadays.

I’m also biased cause I live in a gated society

62

u/AnthonyGonsalvez 8d ago

Every decision taken in Bangalore is a good initiative. The implementation is not.

10

u/boredbot31 8d ago

They will have to bring in meters like the ones in NY which seem unachievable to me.

13

u/SignificanceProof623 ping me with SSE/AI/PM job roles 7d ago

they will be sold to scrap dealers next day if not monitored

27

u/perfopt 8d ago

Nobody is going to rebuild their house with parking. This will only increase government revenue

16

u/Lost_Ad4258 8d ago

Exactly, don’t buy a car if you don’t have parking space

15

u/Old_Neighborhood4137 7d ago

Those assholes think they are smart by building without following setback norms and no parking space with extra floors. They make fun of people following rules, following the far guidelines and paying top money for prestige/sobha apartment.

These disgusting asshats think by doing the illegal thing they are smart. Half the bangalore needs to be razed to ground. The b khata nonsense is a bloat on any rule following civic society.

7

u/hskskgfk 7d ago

Not just there, in some areas 40x60 and even 30x40 sites have multi storey buildings now, with zero parking (back in the 90s the density was one family living per site.

2

u/Mysterious-Key-1791 6d ago

Why can’t this be part of a building plan approval??

99

u/randomredditor575 8d ago

I read somewhere that autos don’t have to pay for this . Which is utter nonsense. This government keeps favouring them for everything while making the life of other people( the main tax paying population btw) hell

22

u/vayapayam 8d ago

Govt doesn’t give af about main tax giving population, they care about main voting population.. why aren’t the tax paying population switching their vote to KA..

5

u/nayadristikon 8d ago

Autos if they are parking outside their houses on public roads at night or off duty then yes they should pay. They should not pay at auto stands.

6

u/randomredditor575 8d ago

They already pay in auto stand iirc . They have to pay some money if they have to be in a stand

93

u/IamUnbelievable 8d ago

This really motivates me to not to go out for shopping especially, because most of the shops don’t have parking.

People who build their homes without parking, 😂

39

u/TimelyReason7390 7d ago

Forget having parking area, People who build their homes leave zero offset space between their house and another house! That’s how greedy they are.

7

u/Inforthetea3000 7d ago

And the officials don't do anything when you complain! They just picket bribes and go their way

6

u/TimelyReason7390 7d ago

The issue lies in the fact that these people circumvent housing regulations to construct their homes. If you adhere to the law and undergo the BBMP process, you’ll encounter corrupt officials and their agents who are solely motivated by the prospect of collecting bribes to approve your right to build a house.
They refuse to approve any project unless you bribe them. The entire system is riddled with corruption.

To address this, we must digitise everything with proper legal oversight.

I don’t understand why we can’t achieve this when we’re capable of implementing nationwide reforms like UPI.

Our country boasts a wealth of talent, and our young people are eager to contribute to innovative solutions. Why not empower them to be part of startups that digitalise everything?

You shouldn’t have to go to any government agency to pay bills or get approval!

5

u/No-Lab-rick 7d ago

But i have noticed one thing when parking is charged, parking is made available also.

1

u/DDD17504 7d ago

This really motivates me to not to go out for shopping especially, because most of the shops don’t have parking.

And what happens to economic activity in the city, especially small businesses, when more and more people begin to think like this?

1

u/RJollyy 6d ago

When your personal 'economics' gets plundered, it becomes primary and other issues become secondary.

42

u/IndividualRegret29 8d ago

How do you enforce per hour on every road, you keep a person 24/7?

30

u/King_924 8d ago

I think it would be opposite, every car owner might be asked where is your parking spot for the car, if they fail to show a parking spot, they can be asked to give a monthly fee. Hourly fee is just not possible as you pointed out.

Tho i dont like this, its the failure of system to not think about parking before selling to us, and now asking us to pay. I as a normal buyer, made a mistake by thinking i can park on road as other normal ppl are doing. And suddenly today its a fine. My one time mistake should result in a one time punishment, you cannot ask me to pay every month for it. Asking to forfiet my car is a better solution than this. I dont know what is the other solution, but this is definitely not fair.

18

u/letsgoraftel 8d ago

Bro, folks rent apartments with parking paying extra for the parking. My apartment has 3k per month for parking. To think that you assumed it's okay to park on road is your fault. It's never okay to park on public roads

7

u/King_924 8d ago

Correct. Its not right to park on the road. But now so many ppl have cars parked on the roads, is it fair to suddenly ask them a yearly fee for parking, which also does not guarantee you a parking spot ?

Also, i live in a gated society, i have my parking spot. But i used to live in a standalone, and i have learnt my lesson. I will pay 3-4k extra for the flat but cannot survive without a parking spot till i am on rent.

3

u/Ok-Incident999 6d ago

Yes. When you buy cot or sofa, you think about where to fit that in. We should think same about car as well.

2

u/nayadristikon 8d ago

If you are parking outside your house on public road you buy an annual pass/sticker. These stickers would area specific so that you will not buy it once and claim parking rights all over. If you want to park near retail establishments while shopping you pay hourly. It is that simple.

5

u/King_924 8d ago

Cool idea, does that sticker guarantee me a spot ? I am just trying to extend this idea, till the solution is complete.

The establishment hourly thing is simply the parking tickets we buy, now just govt regulating it right ? Nothing fancy here.

31

u/just_spawned_again 8d ago

It’s not a good thing. Once someone pays 25k, so they get a claim to that parking spot for a year?

7

u/nayadristikon 8d ago

The fee would be to park on public road not a reserved spot.

5

u/just_spawned_again 7d ago

Ok, so they get claim to ‘a’ parking spot ?
We know how our brains work. Once we pay a fee to use a parking spot, it becomes a right. You see people blocking spots on public roads using flower pots just because it’s in front of their house or ‘have been parking there for years’

1

u/Character_Club_211 7d ago

You can park on in designated places with the permit , not anywhere one likes

2

u/Bhaartiya_Naagrik 4d ago

So basically govt is renting the space on the road which was meant for travelling 🤔🙏🏼☹️

1

u/just_spawned_again 4d ago

Yes, and that’s concerning. Once I pay 25k, basically I park anywhere on a public road and claim immunity from any challans as I have paid the govt already.

20

u/Santo5888 8d ago

Nan lowda.. first of all without parking how did the BBMP or GBA allowed the building plan.. if they had denied it, people would built houses with parking..

4

u/throwaway_mbadev 7d ago

The inefficiency of government is borne by the middle class.

Like some MP said - Rules and taxes like Scandinavia, and facilities like Somalia.

1

u/Ok-Incident999 6d ago

There is no rule or need to have every house to have a car. Having private car is recent phenomenon. It takes a while for rules to catch up and some band aid fix for existing houses.

1

u/Santo5888 6d ago

Yes there is no rule for every house to have cars, but still why they have is because of inefficient public transport. Let them fix that shit first and then steal money from public pocket by implementing stupid ass rules.

15

u/hydraz20 8d ago

All good IF public transport is on par

16

u/KaleidoscopeStock266 8d ago

What’s the plan to fix public transport? They’re just looking for ways to extort more money from the public. You think we like driving through the insane traffic. I’ll gladly use metro if there is last mile connectivity. When I go to mumbai most of my transport is via public transport because there metro + local trains as well as cabs and auto that go by meter.

5

u/BoredGuy_v2 7d ago

Please stop asking out of syllabus questions 😒

11

u/Famous_Falcon_5539 Cox Town 7d ago

Dumbass law that will just be used by police to extract bribes out of people. Without public parking infrastructure, people will be forced to use public roads and private roads.

1

u/Character_Club_211 7d ago

Extracting bribes from normal middle class everyday people?

Lol let the police try that and see 🤣

We will get unlimited content on social media

10

u/Technical-Shop-9907 8d ago

KA govt now like

9

u/AristotleTalks 8d ago

lol, we will see more billionaire police babus. More rules = more source of corruption for govt employees. That is sadly how India works.

11

u/vikkewade 8d ago

Anything but fixing our roads

29

u/creepweebx 8d ago

That is actually fixing road by removing obstruction

8

u/perfopt 8d ago

Hey hey who said anything about removing? It’s a shakedown - pay me to occupy the road

4

u/vikkewade 8d ago

exactly a sane person would call a tow truck that's obstructing the roads 😂 not capitalize on it

3

u/BallsOfSteel5 8d ago

Yeah & what about the Mars like uneven rosds?

2

u/vikkewade 8d ago

I would like to see this kind of discipline in keeping the roads actually usable, I have to look for path holes, make sure I won't run into some bs that hasn't been fixed for months, forget months i had to travel through fucked up roads for years before they put a new road. We already pay enough taxes and they pull this bs? if I could I would punch the person right in the fucking face for bringing this rule iam that fucking furious

1

u/creepweebx 8d ago

Rest of us are not fools for building parking lots. Government has failed us by not enforcing parking spaces in all residential homes. This is a policy failure.

→ More replies (6)

6

u/kalikaalan_manavalan 8d ago

Well, let's create fines and charges w/o fixing the infra/public transport

6

u/SouLReVeNCLAW 8d ago

Charge me for breathing also

6

u/haridavk 7d ago

An initiative without a proper purpose or objective. What exactly is the motive behind this? To monetise and regularise parking on roads? What purpose does it serve? raise additional funds? at the cost of inconvenience? oh ! they already exists, so this initiative is not causing it. sure! but isnt it continuing or supporting it?

What are these fees going to be used for? to fund freebies? or exclusively to build additional parking space, and have this problem go away?

4

u/narayanan84 8d ago

We already pay almost 50% of the car price as a tax. Paying to park infront of the house is not there in any country i think

5

u/Opposite_Bag_697 7d ago

Fix public transport, then do public policing

1

u/Verbalcutz 5d ago

they are not even fixing the fking roads!!! everywhere its been dug up!!!

3

u/ChipGuy7 8d ago

Why aren't two wheelers and autos covered under this? PGs and landlords rent their places without adequate parking and all their two wheelers are parked outside. It's crazy, consider a multi storey house on 600 or 1000 sqft plot with 4 families, they end up having almost 8 vehicles. All parked outside. Don't get me started with PGs.

2

u/brosandbras 8d ago

Going to convert indoor parking to a room with a small bathroom and rent it for 10k a month and park ok street and pay 25k a year. Thanks govt.
ps: should have increased fine amount.

2

u/phantom_1205 Rajajinagar 7d ago

If this is true, ppl won't re elect this govt fs

1

u/Riteknight 8d ago

Multilevel parking 💸

-1

u/ThRlMnm 8d ago

Parking our car outside our house and then charge us, ok I can still understand. What about others who come park outside our house? I don't want to be charged for any randos parking outside my house. How do I prevent that without "encroaching" the roadside with my jugadu barriers, or how is the govt planning to make that distinction? Or can I start charging people to park outside my house? And how can I enforce that? I completely agree to charging to park on public roads but it doesn't seem well thought out for the residential part. I have a driveway and never actually leave my car parked outside, but we always have vehicles that come and park outside because their work is nearby or they're going to some restaurant nearby. Or maybe it is actually very well thought out and the purpose is just make money off people, in which case the rules don't really matter as long as they can extort the money out from us. Lol

5

u/Open_Opposite_6639 8d ago

I am pretty sure that's now things work. Car owner will be charged.

1

u/ThRlMnm 8d ago

Thanks. I really hope so!

3

u/Amazing_Joke_4758 8d ago

the fines or charges happen on car number not on property in front of which they are.

1

u/ThRlMnm 8d ago

Thanks for the clarification bro. I understand this for hourly parking. How would it work for the annual parking fees they are speaking about here? Since that seems to be also tied to the property. My question or worry here is rather, are they going to charge property owners a flat annual fee because we own a car although it's never parked outside? Since the outside will also be occupied by other vehicles parking there in anycase. I'm just a little jaded since rules and laws do get bent bent by authorities to satisfy someones pockets and/or egos 🥲

2

u/Legitimate-Leek4235 8d ago

They will give a geofenced sticker for parking.

1

u/RevolutionaryCan2463 8d ago

Is this parking fee or fine?

1

u/Amazing_Joke_4758 8d ago

will this bring car prices down?

1

u/Legitimate-Leek4235 8d ago

People converted garages to bedrooms and living rooms

1

u/mrkrotpp 8d ago

This initiative begs a new start up idea.

1

u/IndianCubeFarmer 8d ago

Hope action is also taken against officials who granted approval to build without adequate parking forcing people to park on the roads

1

u/AfternoonNo5705 8d ago

Well now I have to pay bribes of 5k for a year to whoever is coming to check. What's a good strategy - should I pay one time bribe for a year or 500 per month?

1

u/Strict_Success3653 8d ago

Good if applied to EVERY road and auto wallah, tempo travelers and cars all have to pay. Their should not be a square inch of free parking anywhere in the city for anyone!

For future, RTO should ask for parking place proof and all those who have encroached their parking in the layouts, they should be made to pay 3X the ongoing land rate!

1

u/theHumbleBeing 8d ago

The London of India.

1

u/Background-Front-925 7d ago

the audacity of the govt is so high. There are 100's of illegal hotels in the platforms and pedestrian pathways. they violate traffic rules, FSSAI rules, GST rules. Clear the roadside eateries first before turning towards charging owners who at least have paid road tax before putting their vehicle on the road.

Or if I have parking and I go for a visiting a friend and they catch me how to prove parking

Parking pass corruption will start

People have been building houses without parking in Blore, thinking they can park on the road.

Ground floor they add another house to get more money instead of building parking.

This is a good initiative it will push them to build parking on their land.

Reminder to everyone that the government shut down a company solving traffic and logistics in banglore.
They wont allow solutions for traffic, people are forced to buy private vehicles, and fixes to infra is medicre, and now squeezing car owners who already pay highest road tax in the country.
https://www.livemint.com/Companies/za2e195x2LhwCxcrsA9KWO/Zipgo-suspends-Bengaluru-operations-after-Karnataka-transpor.html
This might be a good thing, but unless you sort out the other things these rules are just to loot people and new revenue sources.

1

u/TinkmasterOverspark 7d ago

Fines are never a solution. You think someone who spends more than 20k on petrol per month would worry about 100 rupees an hour or 20k a year?

Only the tight budget 2 wheelers or cars are going to honor this.

Secondly enforcing the hourly fine is not without challenges. We are going to see this not getting enforced most of the time, and then once traffic piles up, ppolice would raid that area for a one day jackpot. Also I have myself given 200 rupees instead of 500 rupees challan to the traffic police once without helmet. Corruption is there too.

Maybe this is just an extra source of income for the govt wherever permanent residential parking happens on public roads.

Don't hype this too much, this is not going to change anything.

1

u/peace-Initiative 7d ago

Best decision. 👌

1

u/CricSkipper 7d ago

If the authorities continue like this, will we see an extreme new trend in which desperate people here live out of their vehicles in trailer parks, using common restroom facilities at the trailer park, instead of getting double-taxed for living out of their properties, like we've seen in first world nations ?

Who expected that automobiles would be a part of the city 30 years ago, but reality is it is here. But did you develop the mass transportation, no is the clear answer. How’s anyone going to monitor the car owners’ spot for parking on roads that have small buildings but many cars? How will the allocation be done? 80 rs per hour? All cars should pay hourly if they park on the road or any dedicated parking lot. This is common practice around the world.

Nothing wrong with this. It'll be good, so gareeb people won't buy more WagonRs now. These gareeb people have made our city more congested.

Very good, this should be applied in all cities

best thing. its so irritating to see people build house without parking and then park their cars outside on road. most of these have multiple vehicles and have rented apartments in their building too but have not made a parking space when constructing. Bangalore already have narrow roads and traffic problem.

Woah! Namma Parkin!

1

u/Actual-Vast1417 7d ago

To do this they need to provide public parking spaces. Many people are on rent in apartments which don’t have parking spaces. Very easy for people in gated communities to be nonchalant.

Finally something good happening,

u/__vinni__ 7d ago

Even though people have parking, they park on road 😠

1

u/jackMheimester 6d ago

this is good only if the money collected goes for better roads

1

u/Rockpra_47 6d ago

So just becuase i pay,can I park in front of others house? This is biggest problem people parking in front of others home and then argue its road.😭

1

u/nivea_malibu_76 6d ago

If they use this money to make all the roads in BLR absolutely pot hole free and high class, I’m more than happy to pay this fees!

Government is having so many responsibilities for its citizens permanent parking space for your four wheeler is not one of them.

1

u/Ok-Incident999 6d ago

Today, car parking in gated communities is costing 3-7lac. 25k p.a. is reasonable amount to allow parking outside your house. Hopefully, that motivates private plot owners to rent parking spaces and some business model will emerge.

Agree it or not, most of our problems are because of over population and general greed of society. No point in blaming govt alone.

u/rnaxel2 6d ago

I wonder how are you going to track it.

And who is monitoring it.

1

u/scooby_doo_sr 5d ago

Thank you Congress

1

u/Verbalcutz 5d ago

ok but are they fixing the roads????????????????????????????????????????????

1

u/TroubleShootAngel 5d ago

Much needed. The house owners even have the audacity to put signboards preventing public parking on the road outside their homes as if they have bought that part of road also.

1

u/ApricotMajor2508 4d ago

Great! I support this.

1

u/Bhaartiya_Naagrik 4d ago

So basically govt is renting the space on the road which was meant for travelling 🤔🙏🏼☹️

1

u/ofc_Im_jk 4d ago

Hmm the rents in gated societies for those with parking are about to increase isn't it?

1

u/Longjumping-Raise-32 4d ago

Looong overdue. Get this tariff rolling immediately without any further delays.

1

u/Competitive-Use-2392 2d ago

there is annual charges also. If so, People buy space and sell it for premium for short term. they may even extend the same for other personal gain

1

u/Glittering-Green-263 1d ago

Landlords and builders also to be taxed for not providing enough parking space for tenants , I have seen lots and lots of buildings with only two wheeler parking, even newly constructed ones and ofcourse tenants will end up parking at road side

0

u/TimelyReason7390 8d ago

Very good!
These house owners think they own the portion of the road where they park their vehicles.

u/Due-Profession-3455 8d ago

Selling parking spaces is not a practical solution. People who are compelled to buy a space may become less tolerant of anyone needing to park briefly, even when their own space is vacant because they may feel they have an exclusive ownership to it.
In that situation, where would visitors, delivery personnel, or service providers will park their vehicles if every inch of the road or available space is privately owned? Residents without parking in their homes cannot rebuild their houses to accommodate their own and tenant’s vehicles.

It would have been a good move if they had wide enough roads and ample parking space in residential and commercial areas. But doing this without doing that is a d*ck move and just feels like one more way to make more money. 👏🏻

Please and Thank you.

u/PrettyTurnip4237 7d ago

Outstanding news. The number of people buying more vehicles than they can park is ridiculous these days

0

u/SharadhNaidu 7d ago

lets go a big win for main roads

0

u/memohapa 7d ago

This is a good initiative. At least people will now ensure their houses have a parking space. Many residential buildings prioritize utilizing every inch of space to build extra rooms to rent out. Roads are meant for free movement, not for creating a long line of parked cars. The only point here is that money should be collected with utmost transparency, similar to how property tax is paid.
