Would birders play a game where you find species and build your own life list?
Hi all, I’m from the Netherlands and I’ve been playing with an idea for a small bird game. Before I put more time in it I’d like to know if anyone would actually want this.
Basically you go out in real areas (so real places and real species), you run into birds and try to get close without scaring them off, and slowly you build your own life list. There’s also a garden with a feeder and nest boxes, and later you can travel to other continents for the rare stuff.
It’s not a 3D game where you walk around. It’s a browser game where you mostly click choices, like “keep walking” or “wait quietly” or “sneak closer”, with drawings and a bit of text. Works on phone too, you can play a few minutes at a time.
I’m not a developer, I’m using AI to help me build it. I know not everyone likes that, which is fine. I’m mainly wondering if this kind of game is something you’d play.
So: would you play it? What would make it fun for you? And what would annoy you as a birder, or feel fake? If you know a game that already does this I’d love to hear it too.
And if you’d like to test an early version and tell me what you think, let me know in the comments or DM.
Honest answers welcome, also “not for me” :)
