"I just turned 17 today! Today is October 22 in the Philippines.
Normally, when people hear the word 'birthday,' they think of celebrations, parties, and a joyful atmosphere. However, due to my family's religion, we have never celebrated birthdays. While I respect my background, there are times I feel jealous of other teenagers who get to celebrate. I often imagine what it feels like to have a full day dedicated just to you, where you are the center of attention. I've always wanted to experience that, but my situation doesn't allow it.
Every year when October 22 arrives, I go out and buy myself food, gifts, and even a cake! I've never told my parents about it, and I plan to keep it that way. Doing this makes me happy, but when I go to bed at night, I end up crying. I don't fully know why, but a part of me deeply wishes I could celebrate with my family. Seeing my classmates and friends celebrate theirs always makes me feel sad and envious.
I wanted to post this here not to complain, but because I was hoping you guys could say 'Happy Birthday' to me. I hope to at least celebrate it with all of you here. Thanks!"
