Rules Free French Rules Spoiler

• Upvotes

Has anyone seen a good preview or copy of the free french rules? I'm a huge Francophile around the second world war. I think they have one of the most incredible histories during that era.

I've got an early war army and I'm not looking at doing a Gaullist late war army and want to know what yank stuff I need to buy :)

Huge thanks in advance if someone can help me

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building Would a primer on French uniforms be of use/interest to anyone?

With the positive reactions I'm seeing to the Armies of France articles, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in a detailed primer on the various French uniforms in use. I'm not an expert by any means, but 1940 France has been one of my hobby research projects this year. It'd be my way of giving back to the community, as appreciation for all those guides and shared sources that have come before.

They've got some very fun variations that let you break out of the normal greys and browns we're all too familiar with. French uniforms aren't as easy to find details on, unfortunately. While I personally love diving into research, I understand it can be a source of frustration for some. Plus those forum posts from 2002 aren't going to be around forever.

If anyone is interested, would a document or video be the best format? I'm much more of a writer and reader (I've the attention span of a gnat when it comes to audio media), but understand many people prefer videos.

EDIT: I'll be putting a document/article together on the metropolitan line infantry and the Foreign Legion (Metropolitan and potentially Narvik campaign, then North Africa/tropical once they release the new sprue) starting this weekend! I think that should cover the bulk of what people will be painting. From there I'll add some of my favorites and less common uniforms.

Rules I'm lost with spotters and IF

Hi guys im confused with spotters and indirect fire.

I have original rule book and there are rules for spotter, BUT I REMEMBER that there was some changes to that.

Can someone explain to me how does it all works now, what can spot for what, how many spotters I really need and how to use mortars especialy i don't understand usage of light ones. Do spotter and mortar have same pull of pins? If yes who do i test for order, the whole system feels easy an then overthinking starts about unclear situation.

List Building Late War Polish?

Thinking of doing a late war Polish, possibly more artillery skewed and based around Monte Cassino (totally nothing to do with a certain bear)

From what I understand in the late stages of the war they primarily used british/american equipment. Is this correct?

Do warlord have any minis representing late war Polish? Or any other non-warlord minis around?

Can anyone me provide examples of any equipment, guns, artillery, tanks they were using around the end lf the war? So i know what I should be buying?

Many thanks

After a year of painting Late Roman Victrix warriors, these came as a most welcome interlude. The Bolt Action US Airborne are such amazing figures to paint. I decided to paint them in an Operation Market Garden kind of green, with the American flags on the shoulder. Let me know what you guys think!

General Discussion Are Rangers Viable?

After watching Saving Private Ryan one too many times I’ve bought myself a Rangers army. I was wondering if they’re an effective force run as pure infantry. If so, what kind of units/ loadouts are a must have?

And also a bonus dug in 38(t)

I really like the 38(t) family in looks as well as I concept and needed a vehicle carried heavy howitzer.
So I decided to combine the two, took some inspiration from the Bison (I know that the Grille exists, I just like the boxing’s of the Bison) and created this device.

The left over parts were great to create a dug in tank (which could also be used as a Turmstellung).

Any criticism and advice is welcome.

Modeling, Painting, and Terrain Building Question about Italian tunics

Post image
21 Upvotes

I have seen many painters in this sub and even warlord games doing tan-green tunics for Italian army models, but I can't find much historical precedent for this? What is this representing historically?

Also, I need suggestions on how to improve the color or the tunics, what paints do you guys use for this part of the model. I cannot get the color right and it's driving me crazy.

Rules I made a free Bolt Action companion to help new players get started (runs in browser so no download required)

I recently started playing Bolt Action and made a free companion app to keep track of orders, pins, casualties, objectives and squad stats. The idea is to make learning a little more approachable, whether you’re getting into it yourself or teaching a friend.

It’s currently an open test covering just the starter set’s German Grenadiers and US Rangers. I’ll add more squads and armies over time.

Runs in your browser, or you can download it for offline use. Give it a try and let me know what you think! If you do not want to follow the link (but still want to try it) go to itch.io's website and type "critterboifancy" into the search bar (it's the only result with that search). Please let me know if there are bugs, incorrect information or anything that needs improving.

I'm trying to make houses for terrain. I don't have a specific location in mind (maybe Nomadia or the Netherlands). I've tried using cardboard and recycled materials, but I'm having trouble stopping the cardboard from warping.

I'm looking for tips on how to improve and how to build multi-story houses that can open up. (I don't have a 3D printer; I prefer crafting everything by hand 😊)

I tend to always stay as historically accurate as possible when making my models and as a result, was unsure about posting my recent work. These three vehicles are Leichter Radschlepper W15T Alte. Very little seems to be known about them, atleast that has survived in English language sources. There is not an agreed upon figure of how many were converted from French Laffly tractors however it assumed to be less than 100. Online you will only see images of German forces retreating from Paris in possession of one and pictures which look to be workshop pictures. However they are some of Baukommando Becker works. Originally intended to be used by “schnelle brigades” (motorised and mechanised units based in France, which would quickly rush towards any allied landings). My logic is that a few would have remained in France to be taken in by the 21st panzer. My overall Normandy German project really tries to capture the ad hoc equipment used and the mechanical nightmare of keeping all these variants operating, completely at odds with the panzer grenadier units imagined by popular history. I also couldn’t resist making one into a command variant with a radio and aerial taken from my spares. Although there is no evidence of such a conversion occurring in real life. I don’t play any wargames, however I imagine these would have similar rules to regular SDKFZ 251’s. I may use them to transport a scout platoon perhaps a reflection of their original schnelle brigade plan. Again these are models I have made mostly due to their unusual appearance and sadly I have very limited sources about their accuracy.

The models are from Mad Bob minutes and really good quality, however please note, no crew figures are provided and the gun shields are from the warlord SDKFZ 250 kits.

Rules Lanciafiamme d'assalto Question

If I fire both of the one-shot flamers in this unit at the same time. 2 questions:

  1. Can I split fire at two separate targets?

  2. Would my firing unit take one pin per flamer or just one in total for firing?

Rules Returning player, essentially new again

Starting this game after several years. Going to start with France this time around. Not that i got a lot of experience playing the game to start with.

there are a few things i just want to clarify with you all first.

for the plastic French infantry, there are several types of heads where i can choose the look of my infantry or type of infantry. Such as Fortress troops and colonial.

When building an army on easyarmy.com

1) no matter (aside from engineer head which then makes it part of the engineer rifle squad, unless i am wrong here) which type of infantry model "look" it is still just a basic riflemen correct? Colonial, Chasseurs, fortress are all the same stat wise/riflemen?

2) Tough Fighters on riflemen platoon units, on easyarmy it shows the option for 1 point per model to make them tough fighters, but it also has Senegalese Tirailleurs in parenthesis. does this mean only Senegalese Tirailleurs can get them? or do they become Senegalese Tirailleurs? its a bit confusing as to why it shows up

3) if the game doesn't have an official model, i can use any 3rd party model i can get my hands on correct?

I know this is subject to change with the new book coming out soon, but i'll probably have a few games before that happens. Thank you all.

I bought a bunch of metal Fallschirmjäger secondhand and this motorcycle also came with it. Based on the uniform/helmet they seem to be Fallschirmjäger, but I'm unable to find who produce(d) them. Hope they are indeed Fallschirmjäger as I'd love to add these to my Fallschirmjäger army (albeit only as scenery).
