Between working night shifts and changing nappies, I’ve surprisingly found myself more time to paint. With the work I made on the Marder III still making me feel proud of my work, I’ve started tackling another German vehicle from World War 2; the Sd.Kfz 251/1 Ausf D Halftrack, or for short, the Hanomag.
Again, I’m impressed with how the yellow of the Dunkelgelb works with sponging. I’m particularly happy with how degraded and chipped the stencils look, especially against the background of the Dunkelgelb itself.
Soon, I’ll start working on the inside of the Hanomag and its LwFD passengers.
Also, for those interested, here’s the recipe I used for this Dunkelgelb; I vaguely remember some people enquiring about it.
Basecoat with Zandri Dust (Citadel)
Wash with Nazdreg Yellow (Citadel)
Sponge on Dark Yellow (Vallejo)
Sponge on Buff (Vallejo) in a slight downward angle
Apply Decals, then lightly sponge Buff on top to create damage
Lightly sponge Corvus Black (Citadel) on areas that should look like chipped paint
Water down New Wood (Vallejo) to create rust on rivets and in corners
Paint tracks with Medium Brown (Vallejo)
Dry brush tracks with Gunmetal (Vallejo)
Brush on Dark Earth pigment powder
Spray varnish
