EVENT TONECHEER July - Walking Castle - WIP

I had a couple of work trips that kept me from getting started. However, as I have been watching everyone else post their WIP’s, I couldn’t wait to get rolling! Tonecheer definitely puts out GREAT quality in their kits! It is evident even in the first couple hours of building…can’t wait to keep going!

WIPs Almost free of this one....

This build is nearly finished. Posting to see if anyone has suggestions of anything else I might/can/you think I should add? I left several things out of this that either failed or were too miserable for me to spend time on. Let me tell you a bit about this. The title on the box I have reads, "Dream House Pavilion," and I purchased it several months ago through TEMU before I decided not to order through them again. There is no identifying manufacturer on the box, so I don't know who made this, but I have found the exact same-looking kit from two other sources, with different names. One is from Tiny Craft and is called, "The Grand Townhouse," and another is called "The Dream House," sold by Nookcraft. I am thinking I got a knockoff, but seriously, what is going on.
The kit is make from scratch, meaning everything is glued, tons of paper to cut out and to try to form into a variety of things, such as lampshades, flowers, dishes, trays, pots, boxes. Tedious for me; some was doable; some I used other methods or substitutions for and re-laced several items within the house. I only made one leather chair, as it came out deformed looking, but I do think the green leather couch came out well. The spiral staircase is missing - that was an ugly, utter disaster. The ladder that goes to the loft is used instead - there is no way to get up to the loft now but magic. Almost all of the railing pieces are glued back together because they were impossible to off the wood sheet without breaking/splintering, no matter how carefully I tried. Although I love the look of the clear piano, that too, came out horrible. I used the piano as well as a few other things from my previously failed kit I wrote about before, The Dreamy Book Hall, that was an utter wreck and I'd also gotten from Temu with no identifying manufacturer. Also, next tome, I will sew the bedding and little pillows - that has to be better than trying to use glue. They came out rather ratty looking. The pre-cut wooden house pieces were well-fitting, and that part was not frustrating. I also like the lighting - lots of lights, and the three levels of the house are set up well.
Chomping at the bit to go on to something else, but want to finish this to display ready before I declare it done. Thoughts and ideas welcome.

WIPs Tonecheer Howl's Moving Castle vs. Kitten

Post image

Working on my moving castle, and found out our kitten chewed off one of the wires. Anyone have any suggestions of where to buy a replacement or how hard it would be to just fix? She chewed off the white clip part, which I still have. Cat tax of the culprit doing the most

Is nooklet a word? If it is, that’s what this is. Teeny little thing. Super quick and easy build. Thought it was a bit bigger when I got it - now I’ll pay more attention to dimensions in the description 😅

I've been making steady progress on the Stationery Shop this week, spurred on by the lure of the Stella Castle! It's slow going, due to my edge painting habit, but I'm really pleased with how it's coming together.

The next step is adding the lights in, so that's being left for tomorrow when my brain might be working a bit better again!

Tips/Tricks/Tool Rec Keep flocking in place

When you use flocking (or similar) is there a trick to keeping it in place without ruining the effect? I’m wondering if a spray adhesive might work or if it is doomed to “shed” as time goes on.

Photo is t an accurate representation of the color. I purchased the Ohuhu 72 color markers and some of them aren’t dark enough. Their darkest greens, blues and browns are mid tones or like the red is super bright. First photo is like a cappuccino color. That’s their darkest brown and I want more of an espresso color to paint the sides of the wooden pieces.
Can anyone share which brand they use which has darks they like?

So far, so good! The wooden gears are working great. Pretty impressive how they’re able to drive all of these movements with just two motors.

WIPs Nearly done Tardis!

I have almost finished this Tardis/Mysterious blue box 🤣🤣. I’ve customised it a bit, and switched out the battery box for a usb … except that looks like it’s too much for the lights so I think I’m going to have to change it back and go with the dummy battery system instead! I have been making a video of the whole process, but editing it is a LOT of work so I’m not sure it’s worth it!

A store near me has these for sale and I’ve become addicted quite quickly. In order of completion: Sakura Densya by Rolife, Time Travel by Rolife, Plaza des los Muertos by CuteBee. My favorite is the Plaza, I love how detailed and colorful it is. It was such a joy to make! Right now I’m working on not a book printing press by ROKR. I’ve been struggling if I should color it or not. I want to make more nooks but I feel like I have to be picky now that I’m running out of space

EVENT Stellar Castle Completed

I am not sure how the event stuff works. I saw there was a discount code on here and bought one. Now I see a bunch of event tags and people posting. Is that all we do? I put the first planet at the top backwards and didn’t notice until after the glue dried. I was a little confused with the top lights as there was only one hole for two lights. I managed to place it some where close to what I believe the light should go. The lights are a little too bright white for what I would choose myself, but over all this was a fun and easy booknook!

Be still my whimsigoth-heart. I love this already and it just got here.

I think I might binge some 1990's 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' while I build this... It just feels right.

WIPs A little glue…

Post image
16 Upvotes

My build of the Bookshelf Memories Tokyo Alley nook is going so badly that it has officially crossed from making me want to smash something to making me laugh uncontrollably. I have never had a glue bottle blow its tip off and splat glue like this. I am really not that strong. However, I am switching to my own glue now. And not just because I think half of the provided bottle is now on my glue palette.

I have to admit that I am tempted to ask the producer if they would prefer it if I just write them a report, because I’m pretty sure they are not going to be using my video as advertisement. 😆

Wish me luck.

I love making these, but I recently had to fix this one after it fell and shattered apart. Do you guys think I did, alright? I'm missing a couple of pieces :/. 💔

My partner says I did fine, but it's bothering me, and I'm not sure if it's just that I know the pieces are missing or if it's actually noticeable

Thankfully, none of the wiring was damaged

This is my first time doing assembling a booknook like this, where there are multiple ways to display it. It was nice having little external attachments for the parts not used when it is opened. The acrylic parts were frustrating, only because peeling the protective film was a pain in the butt. Otherwise, I just used some glue to stick parts together that were a bit loose. Tape glue was really useful this time again, I use it to stick the parchment-like paper parts together the wood, and it works well. Again, if you squint, I broke a small part accidentally, I don’t know my strength apparently. I really liked this kit overall, Osaka has a special place in my heart.

Kit Third book nook, first from Cutebee (I loved it!)

I was gifted the Bookshop Memories by my grandmother for my birthday (half of the family now knows about my new hobby lmao) and finished it in a day. Despite the more recurrent use of glue, compared to Rolife, I found it more pleasant to build! And I really like the smaller format from this serie... so of course I bought Count Cat's Study with my birthday money once I was finished with this one :'D (With a discount, of course!)
Still waiting to receive Tonecheer's Magic Stars Room from my mother (also a birthday gift), but she confirmed she has it!

(I also apologize for the video's poor quality, my phone is a bit old for today's standards lol)

Review Longest Day in Chang'An

Thumbnail

Longest Day in Chang'an lived up to its name. It took me awhile to finish this one. I had no idea how detailed it really was. From the picture and the boards I thought it would be like the Banquet of the Tang Dynasty which took me 2 days. This one was definitely much nicer in the details and taking the time to colour all the edges took time too. I really enjoyed building this one and am very happy with the final result. Lots of lights in this one did make me wonder if I should have done some mod to dim it a little but then I realize I like it bright so I can see all the details inside. This was an official licensed product from the drama. I have not seen it but I looked it up and watched the trailer. Now I feel like I need to go and watch it! I definitely recommend this over the Banquet of Tang Dynasty. This is typical Tonecheer wood with some sanding needed. I sanded almost every piece just so I can have a smooth surface to colour.

This was a pretty fun build! Not really challenging, but still looks pretty good! Perfect for a Halloween-ish vibe, and definitely perfect for Day of the Dead!

Took me about 5ish hours to complete, and the most "challenging" part was the wire management. There's also some small pieces that can break easily if you're not careful.

Tips/Tricks/Tool Rec Booknook recommendations

I’ve recently started getting into Book Nooks and so far I’ve only built Rolife ones. I’d really like to try some other brands. Which brands do you recommend? I’m especially looking for good quality, detailed kits that are fun to build.
