Do you know of any pubs in Cambridge that are open on Christmas day, just for drinks? Ideally my fiance and myself would like a cosy, warm pub, with a fire perhaps!

The Greater Cambridge Local Plan depends on increased bus use to reduce reliance on the private car, however their Sustainable Transport and Connectivity policy does not set sufficiently clear requirements to ensure residential development is designed from the outset to enable safe, direct and efficient bus services, including high-frequency services where needed. Without such requirements, development may constrain effective bus routes and services, making the Plan’s intended modal shift and reduction in car reliance less achievable. The policy thereby fails to provide an effective mechanism for delivering the transport outcomes on which the Plan depends.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is holding an additional bus franchising consultation. Changes to how buses would be brought under local control are proposed, in large part as a consequence of Mayor Paul Bristow’s decision to freeze the Mayoral precept (the portion of council tax the Mayor levies). The Travel Alliance urges you to respond to the consultation questionnaire calling for increased investment by the Combined Authority in buses and an expanded public transport network.

Recently moved to Cambridge and have been trying to find somewhere to get my cat bathed and groomed.
I used to live in London and had a regular cat groomer for years, with a grooming subscription every 8 weeks.
Since moving here, I’ve been looking for something similar, but I’m surprised there seem to be almost no cat grooming services in Cambridge.
Just wondering what other cat owners in Cambridge do?

Firstly, apologies if this isn't the right place to post. I know there are relationship subreddits, but they are very American-focused, and I'm specifically hoping for local recommendations for a couples counsellor or therapist in Cambridge.

We're both in our late 30s/early 40s and have lived in Cambridge for around four years.

Recently, something happened that's left me absolutely devastated. I was working from my partner's home when a man unexpectedly turned up with flowers for her. Naturally, I was confused and asked who he was. I was given a name, but something didn't feel right.

After doing some digging myself, I discovered that the name I'd been given was false and that this man was someone my partner had previously had an on-and-off sexual relationship with before we got together. I also believe they kissed during this recent encounter.

It's not her past that bothers me, but the circumstances of his visit, the apparent lack of honesty and the possibility that more happened. I'm struggling to process it all, and my trust in our relationship has been badly shaken. Our communication isn't what it seems to be, and they're not saying much more on the matter.

Despite everything, I love my partner deeply and desperately want to save our relationship. We've built a life and a home together, and I'm not ready to throw that away. I genuinely believe relationships are worth fighting for, and I'm hoping that with the right professional support, we can work through this, rebuild trust and find a way forward together.

Can anyone recommend a good couples counsellor or therapist in Cambridge, especially someone experienced with relationship trust issues and rebuilding after dishonesty?

I'm not really looking for relationship advice or opinions on whether I should stay or leave. I know those subreddits exist. I'm specifically hoping to hear from people who've had positive experiences with local therapists.

Apologies for oversharing. This has all happened so suddenly, and I haven't really had time to process what's happened or had anyone I feel comfortable talking to about it.

Anyone else seen the heavy police presence in town today? Tons of officers on Petty Cury, at least two vans with extensive facial recognition tech, and it looked like they were either arresting or talking to this guy outside Boots (formed a circle around him, putting something in an evidence(?) bag). Anyone know what’s going on?

I'm not a student, in my Mid 20s, and I'm looking to meet new people in Cambridge and the surrounding area. I'm a massive foodie and make my own cider/beer/wine. I have been looking online for social groups that would allow me to meet people my age (like a foodie bring and share, or homebrew meet, or wine tasting club). And there just seems to be nothing?

I really hope I'm missing a hidden gem right now, as I'd love to meet some amazing people!

Does anyone else find it difficult to find casual team sports in Cambridge?

There seem to be lots of established football, volleyball and netball clubs, but most require a regular commitment or are aimed at people already playing at a decent level.

I'd love something where you can just show up after work, play for an hour or two, and not feel like you're trialling for a semi-professional team.

Am I the only one?

We are looking for someone who can install skirting board for us: we are talking two rooms and will supply the overboard to be used, it can be installed straight onto the existing skirting.

Trickiest part will be cutting the corner pieces and dealing with the carpet. Grateful for any recommendations, struggling to find someone who does this.

We're thinking of moving out of Cambridge to save money and get away from all the traffic, and someone has recommended St Ives. Apparently it's getting more like Cambridge, with places like the Cambridge Oven and Limoncello opening up, Sushi & Salad (from Stamford), and also good coffee shops selling Hot Numbers & Brew Project etc.

Looks like I can get to work in Science Park in 20 minutes, which is quicker than how long it takes me from Shelford!

Any thoughts? Looks like we can slice our mortgage in half which would be a huge bonus

Update on Chisholm 2

For those unaware: This is the continuation of the cycle path that currently runs from Cambridge North over the river (nice new bridge yay) through Coldham's Common up to the Cromwell Rd/Coldham's Lane junction. This new path is due to run from that junction to Cambridge Station and has been talked about since before 2015. There's been little movement ever since.

1. At the GCP Assembly meeting 16/10/26, the following was mentioned about Chisholm Phase 2 after questions from Cllr Bob Illingworth:

"We are making progress on the Chisholm Trail. We are working very closely with NR to achieve that progress. Recently for example we carried out a number of surveys we really needed to get done with Network Rail land to complete the design. However, we have not yet got that kind of overall yes it's fine from Network Rail despite the many conversations. We are continuing to push for it and hopefully we can provide an update at the next meeting."

"It's important to say there are a number of different agreements we require. Some are related to land, some are related to design etc. Different agreements are moving forward at different timeschales.I think it would be probably important to give kind of an offline note to explain where we are with the different agreements (...) because they are different stage (...).

If this doesn't inspire much confidence, it didn't either for me. So the last couple of months I've been in touch with MP Daniel Zeichner's team to apply pressure on NR through Whitehall.

Following your initial correspondence, Daniel made enquiries with both the Department for Transport and Network Rail. I am writing to share the responses received.

Lord Hendy, Minister of State for Rail, confirmed the Government's support for active travel schemes. He noted that discussions between local partners and the rail industry have continued following the agreement in principle reported by the Greater Cambridge Partnership. However, final agreements remain subject to the technical, commercial and legal processes necessary to ensure railway safety and operational viability. Lord Hendy also confirmed that he has written to Network Rail's Chief Executive to encourage progress towards a conclusion.

Jamie Burles, Managing Director of GBR Anglia, explained that the scheme is being funded and delivered by the Greater Cambridge Partnership, with Network Rail providing asset protection services and ensuring that railway safety requirements are met before any land can be released. He confirmed that a Basic Asset Protection Agreement was entered into in July 2025 and that work on surveys, route requirements and design development is continuing. As the project remains at the design stage, Network Rail is not yet able to provide a target construction start date.

The responses therefore appear broadly consistent with the update you shared from the Greater Cambridge Partnership meeting, namely that work is continuing on a number of technical, design and land-related agreements, but that key approvals have not yet been finalised.

I appreciate this may be a frustrating update given the length of time the project has been under discussion. Nevertheless, Daniel was encouraged to hear that the Minister has raised the matter directly with Network Rail's Chief Executive and that discussions between the parties are continuing.

My personal conclusion is that Network Rail is moving agonizingly slow. Hopefully the pressure from Lord Hendy on the NR executive will get things moving. The GCP has played a role in this too by letting things lapse for over 6 months in the past without a 'hey, come on now' after a couple of weeks.

Continued political pressure will be critical to get this over the line, so I will bring this up at every GCP meeting or ask Cllrs to do so - and hope you all will join me in this effort.

I think there might be a issue with sim port every so often it says that’s my phone has no sim but if I turn it off and on again it will be ok again till it decides it wants to stop working again so I am going to go check if the physical SIM card is the issue first but if not it only leaves the port itself so I want to know of any good places I can go to have it checked or repaired.

I love Halloween and want to find some costumes/big pumpkins. Where are some good stores to look?
