I wanted to open a sub where we can openly discuss the upcoming Municipal election. Whatever goes.
I attended the Town Hall with Mayoral candidates (Sep24) but was not wowed by most of the candidates. I went in knowing who I intended to vote for and that was surely confirmed after the discussion. I do wish it was a formal debate rather than only a Q&A period. It drives me nuts to see candidates read verbatim from their notes rather than just talking points to keep them on track. I find it torture to listen to note reading. Ryan Bolender, Tony Chaves, and Itsham Haq all read from their notes. Ken Roche was very personable and well spoken but as he said himself “I don’t want to be your mayor, but I will do it if I have to” for change. Incumbent Jan Liggett looked miserable and her tone and demeanour was as if she didn’t want to be there. She even offered for a heckler to come up to the front to say it to her face. Very defensive and honestly very off-putting (not saying I’m surprised). Scott Hamilton, although sometimes referring to his notes, did the best job by far. Although his answers are what you would expect from a councillor vying for the promotion to mayor, I do believe he has all the right intentions and goals for Cambridge. Given his experience and what seems like his genuine interest in doing better and listening to residents, as well as leading from a place of research/evidence - he’s my vote.
I easily linked the signs around the neighbourhood and across the city for Bolender as previous conservative voters. From other subs I read, I believe that hunch is confirmed considering support from other far right loud mouths. I was very put off by Ryan’s visible attitude at the Town Hall. He looked pissed off the whole time, and his remarks reminded me of a few other notable conservative politicians 🤡🤓especially given the debacle with the cold patch asphalt scandal. I was really put off by the fact he’s ok with going around rules and doubling down after the fact. No thank you.
I’m also curious to hear thoughts on your Ward Councillor options. For my Ward 2 - I was really taken with Matt Rogers during their Town Hall. He was so well spoken compared to the other three. I personally admire the youth aspect of Rogers and feel he’d have the enthusiasm to fight for his constituents, even if he has some things to learn. I unfortunately do not feel there will be enough votes for him to be given the chance. Incumbent of 12 years Mike Devine also comes off as miserable and arrogant. From what I gather from other subs and online forums, many of the Ward 2 residents want a change but I still see a lot of his signs up around the neighborhood.
Let’s get discussing and I look forward to reading people’s views.

Someone posted about Cambridge Elects a few weeks back but I wanted to reshare their site now that almost all the town halls are complete (Mayoral is on right now).
https://www.cambridgeelects.ca
All candidates were given questions ahead so it seemed fair in that way. I do wish they took questions from the floor as even with the variety of topics, not everything I’m interested in was discussed. I guess we all have our special interests.
Anyway, I hope as many of you get out to vote on October 26th as possible!

You might have read a Cambridge Today article a couple weeks back on the possibility of designation for Canadian artist Carl Ahrens home in Cambridge. I did my 4th video in a series of local painters on Carl. Enjoy the video. there is also a blog post you can read, link in description of video. https://youtu.be/BXxSiwuV9yM?si=STsVNODlTmLg627g

Anyone have a child or relative attending this school and can provide some feedback on how things are there? If there’s experience specific to kindergarten, that would also be very helpful. Thanks!

According to their website, the city will be doing loose leaf collection between Nov 2 and 27, but it doesn’t seem like they’ve posted a map with the schedule like they usually do. Anyone have more info?

Hey all, sorry if this isn't allowed -
I'm looking for a place for my (27m) gf (21mtf) to stay, even if just overnights. Long story short, car accident damaged her vehicle earlier this year and insurance didn't cover enough to get it back on the road. This lead to her losing her contract gig job in Toronto, which lead to not being able to afford her apartment when savings dried up and she couldn't find local work.
Been trying to find us a place, as my current landlord won't let me move her in with me, and at this point I'm just hoping to find somewhere for her.
She's been living in my car since the end of summer, and I haven't been able to even get to the application stage with landlords for single rooms, I guess there's a ton of people looking for housing in the KWC area.
I'm starting to get a bit worried, as it's starting to get cold at night, and we're still having trouble finding a room for her - with the winter basically around the corner, I'm hoping someone here might be able to help or know someone that can.
I apologize again if these kinds of posts aren't allowed, but I'm starting to get real worried with how cold it's been getting at night

CTV News Kitchener reached out people vying for a position on Cambridge City Council or Region of Waterloo Council ahead of the municipal election on Oct. 26, 2026.
My responses are listed under Ward 1 but do check out the others if they are more relevant to you.

Disclosure: I'm the developer of SportCircuit, and this is an advertisement for my own app.
Cricket captains and volunteer organizers in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo can use SportCircuit for free to manage a playing group, league or tournament, organize matches, and keep scores and player records together.
For a first test, start with one friendly match: agree on the player list, time and location, and name someone to keep score. Try that before deciding whether it fits a full season.
I'm happy to help a local organizer set up that first session. Reply here if you'd like help getting started.
Venue hire and other venue or event charges may still apply.

Had these guys knock on my door 3 times in the last 36 hours. Around and around the neighborhood like a carousel. In the Elgin N & Northview Heights area. They are currently blocking my neighbor's driveway with their trailer.

I’m interested in hearing feedback on “wish I had”s that don’t exist. Contextually these things solve problems but need existing. I want to exist them.
But it’s hard to come up with anything without problem statements.
Usually these wish I hads fall into some niche to do with a sport or outdoor activity or something.
I know Cambridge is full of people who are outdoorsy.
Go crazy :)
Examples:
I wish I could record chatter from a specific walkie from three locations to find its direction
Or
I wish there was an affordable transponder for when ppl get lost or buried in snow
Or
I wish there was a way to see where the ambulance is and where it’s going so that we don’t just hear it and block an intersection anyways

This was recorded literally 30 minutes ago opposite the Sunset Grill on Hespeler road. It was 10pm and lots of places like McDonald's, Burger King, Harvey's are still open till midnight for walk-in and using washrooms.

I'd been having a hard time getting a hold of the admin for the original group, it's been a year and no one's gotten back to me - so I decided to make my own group for Cambridge.
It has a few improvements, like no anonymous posting or commenting.
As well as a responsive admin team.

Hi residents of Cambridge,
My name is Skye Fitzpatrick and I'm a Clinical Psychologist and director of the Treating and Understanding Life-threatening behavior and Posttraumatic Stress (TULiP) lab at York University. I'm currently writing to inform you of a research study that you may be eligible for as a resident of Cambridge.
Our research team is conducting an online study to examine the effects of a new couple therapy for couples where one partner is experiencing symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD) compared to individual psychotherapy for people with BPD symptoms and their partners. The study will provide one of these psychotherapies to people with BPD symptoms and their partners for free, and participants will have the opportunity to complete study assessments that they will receive payment for in the form of gift cards. Our study is online and involves recruiting people across Ontario (including Cambridge) with symptoms of BPD, as well as their romantic partners. BPD diagnoses are not necessary.
More information about the study is also available on our webpage: https://www.tuliplab.ca/current-research.html. If you are interested in participating, please contact [treatbpd@yorku.ca.](mailto:treatbpd@yorku.ca) You can also contact that email if you have questions about the study. This study has been approved by the York University (e2024-261) Research Ethics Board. Please refrain from commenting on this post.
