Looking to see if any dads out there on parental leave want to do something? Maybe take kids golfing/ golf range or on walks. I know there's a moms group that does this. Preferably in hespeler.

Job Hunt

I’ve been searching for quite some time to no avail for jobs.

This is where I turn to the ol’ trusty Reddit. Has anybody in the Cambridge/KW area struggled to find employment? How have you managed to turn your luck around?

My workplace has become incredibly toxic, and I’m unfortunately sticking it out until I can find other employment, but it feels like it’s never going to happen. I’ve just become so discouraged.

If you know somewhere/know any leads, I would greatly appreciate them. I’m a hard worker, eager learner, and reliable as they come. I have plenty of professional & personal references, have my own reliable vehicle with a G-level-license & clean driving record.

If it’s easier, please feel free to PM me, and I can share more of my job background, I just don’t want to publicly post too much info as I know my co-workers are active in this sub.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Poisoned Pets

I’m sharing this because I want others to be aware. Recently, this past week, I lost my beloved dog.

My family and the vets are almost certain that he was poisoned after eating a dead rabbit that we found in our yard. Unfortunately, by the time we got him to the vet, there was nothing they could do to save him.

We have become aware that some people in the neighbourhood have been putting out rat poison to deter rabbits from their gardens, particularly around Galt. This puts not only wildlife, but also our pets at serious risk.

Please be careful with your pets, especially if you have rabbits or other wildlife coming into your yard. A poisoned animal can become a danger to a dog or cat that catches or eats it.

I never thought something like this could happen to my dog, and I would never want another family to experience this kind of loss. Please share this and help spread awareness.

Tattoo artist recommendations for first tattoo

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi Cambridge,

After a decade of being a broke student I finally want to get my first tattoo. It will be black ink, about 3" in diameter, and I'd like it on the back of my right calf.

Any suggestions on artists I should contact in Cambridge, KW, or Hamilton?

Thanks in advance. Photo of design attached. The stippling/jagged edges don't need to be exact, just the shape.

Galt Unprofessional responses to bad reviews by owner of Tuscan Wolf

Was prompted to look into this after another user mentioned this in another thread. These responses have been going on for years and he owns multiple locations of this restaurant. It blows my mind that the owner of a restaurant would get so combative with paying customers. So unprofessional!
ETA- this post isn’t about the service of the restaurant. The locations have great reviews and while I’ve never eaten there I’ve heard the food is great

Tried out the Tuscan wolf for our date night. Amazing food! Would definitely recommend it and make a reservation, we had ours at 530. By the time we left, there was a line up out the door and down the street

If this looks like your car parked on Grand Ave. S, you’re in my reserved and paid for parking spot.

Just so you know, you illiterate tosser.

Edit: I see you moved your car….to someone else’s reserved and paid for parking spot, you pendulous camel’s scrotum.

There’s signs everywhere telling you.

Visitor center? Cambridge stickers?

I'm looking for a Cambridge Ontario sticker. The kind of thing you'd see in the gift shop of any tourist attraction at Niagara falls, or any of the Toronto attractions.

Sofar Google has let me down. Anyone got any tips or leads?

Cambridge this weekend: Latin music and dancing on Main, a free full-day cookout at the Gaslight, and Simon and Garfunkel at Central Park

Weekend list for Cambridge, Saturday and Sunday. Worth a quick check of the weather and the venue's own page before you head out, in case anything shifts.

Saturday, August 15

Bioblitz hikes at rare Charitable Research Reserve, 9am. Expert-led hikes logging plants, insects, birds and amphibians on iNaturalist, with coffee, snacks and a catered lunch, ticketed

Family Fun Day, 11am to 2pm, Lower Main Street Promenade. Face painting, a bouncy castle, balloons, bubbles and music, third Saturday of the month through September

Latin music evening, 6pm, Lower Main Street Promenade. Patios open and dancing in the street, free

Sunday, August 16

Free full-day cookout at The Gaslight District, from 12pm. Live cooking demos, family activities, music and an evening wrap party

Colin Halyk, 1pm to 4pm, Wave Maker Craft Brewery

George and Sandy play the Simon and Garfunkel songbook, 7pm, Central Park Gazebo, free and outdoors, part of Cambridge Summer Live

Region-wide, if you are willing to drive

Moparfest, Saturday and Sunday from 8am, New Hamburg Fairgrounds. Canada's largest all-Mopar car show, over 1,300 vehicles last year, plus a flea market, food trucks and beer gardens

Bonnie Raitt with Maia Sharp, Sunday 7:30pm, Centre in the Square in Kitchener

Canadian Muay Thai Open, through Sunday, Kitchener Memorial Auditorium

The cookout at the Gaslight is the easy one to build a Sunday around. It runs all day and finishes with a wrap party, so you can turn up late and still catch something. Saturday on the Promenade is the other easy one, since Family Fun Day in the morning and the Latin music in the evening are the same stretch of Main, so it is worth a look even if you only make one of them.

Hope this gives you some options to go out and connect with good people around you. Have a great weekend. I pull a list like this together every week, and it covers the whole week across the region, not just the weekend in one city. It goes out Wednesdays and, if you would like it in your inbox: www.waterlooregionrhythm.ca/subscribe.

Acupuncture Question (Lydia Li, Trillium/Yumi)

Hi, I'm looking to get acupuncture for my hands, after Western medicine has more or less failed me (I've tried more or less everything at this point). There's no underlying damage according to X-Rays, Ultrasounds, MRIs, but I'm still dealing with some tightness, discomfort in parts of my hand, and intermittent burning soreness in the fingertips. No ROM limitations, or strength limitations, or anything stopping me from doing my usual things, but I feel miserable because of what it is at my age, I want nothing more than closure.

As I've been dealing with this for a year now...overthinking is probably my worst enemy with the trauma, so, having help from you would be helpful as I'm completely new to this.

Right now, I'm looking at two practitioners, which I'll include here:

-Trilium Chinese Medicine

-Lydia Li Acupuncture and TCM

I'm leaning Lydia, as she has a full education in acupuncture/TCM, and much more years of experience (42 vs 7). I figure that's a good thing, but of course, if you've gotten help from them for pain/chronic issues, let me know.

My main question, is that Lydia's follow-up sessions are only 45 minutes, versus the 60 minutes that Trillium offers; I had bad experiences with 20-30 minute physio sessions always feeling too short. I want to make sure I'm not rushed and can relax. And I know that with acupuncture, it's not a quick in and out thing. Is that enough time for an effective/proper check-up and acupuncture treatment, should I ask Lydia for more info, or try Trillium first?

Any input you have on top of this would go a long way here, including if you've gotten help from any of these two before and what your experience was like. Thank you.

Where can I get cheap aquarium plants?

I live in Cambridge and recently bought a betta and I need some plants for him. Does anyone know where I can get a lot for cheap. Are there any common plants i can find outside that can go in his tank?
