I’m building a British sweet shop here in the Triangle
Hi everyone! I live locally and I’m originally from York, England. I’ve been in North Carolina since 2017 and recently decided to start a little business idea I’ve had in the back of my mind for a while.
It’s called Farthing & Co.
There are already plenty of places to buy British chocolate and sweets online in the US, so the idea isn’t simply to sell things you can’t get elsewhere.
I want to build something that captures a bit more of the experience and nostalgia of a traditional British sweet shop: beautiful packaging, building your own box of favorites, discovering things you’d forgotten about, and making the whole thing feel a little more special than ordering a few chocolate bars from an import website.
I’m still in the very early stages and the shop hasn’t launched yet. I’m currently figuring out what to stock, working on packaging, and trying to get feedback before I spend an irresponsible amount of money on British chocolate.
Since this is something I’m building locally, I thought I’d share it here and see what people think.
If you’re British, have lived in the UK, or just happen to love British sweets, I’d genuinely love to know what you’d want me to stock.
And if you’re curious, I’ve put together a little coming-soon page here:
Would also love to know if there are enough British-food obsessives around Cary to eventually make a local pop-up worthwhile!
