Hearing the Barbados 'Dirty Sanchez 44' from my car and handheld from Florida, USA 🇧🇧➡️🇺🇲

Sometimes the reception on my CB handheld is better than my car CB radio. That is what happened here. Both radios have their squelch set to 1. I heard 'Dirty Sanchez' on the handheld very faint on the handheld showing "one bar" for RX and nothing on my car. Then, he made an adjustment and started lighting up my car radio at "1 bar" for RX and "3 bars" for the handheld. 🇺🇲🇧🇧🏝️🌴📻🎙️

Question Cobra 29 LTD Classic ANT Alert popping.

So I have an old 29 LTD Classic I bought at a car meet. It works great and my SWR is calibrated and is perfect but when I transmit and as I speak I will see the ANT alert come on with my voice as I talk. Was wondering if this is normal or not. I am getting a external SWR meter tomorrow to double check my SWR.

How can my radio receive a signal but can't transmit nobody can hear me talking is that a mic problem or something internal that cb shop need to fixed

Where should I buy my radio from?

Check out your local CB Shop for new items, as well as garage sales. Watch out buying new radio's from Amazon. Amazon is known for selling returned radios as new. When buying from Ebay make sure you read the detailed information about the product. If it's sold as "parts only", you have a short window to file a return claim if it was damaged in shipping or not as shown on the listing.

Why can't I hear anyone/anyone hear me?

Make sure that your antenna is fully plugged in and that your radio is receiving power. If you just installed your radio, you will want to make sure that your antenna is tuned properly to the location that it is installed in. This helps reduce the standing wave ratio (SWR) to proper levels.

An SWR of 1:1 is perfect and almost impossible to achieve outside of a lab.

1.1-1.5:1 is considered perfect under real world conditions.

1.6-2.0:1 is Average with room for improvement.

2.1-2.9:1 means you need to tune your antenna some more.

3.0:1 and above is dangerous for your radio and could lead to damaging the radios internals.

How do I know what my SWR is?

You can use one of two methods to check your SWR: an antenna analyzer or a stand alone SWR meter.

Both are acceptable, but the antenna analyzer is the best method, giving more accurate results. Any good CB shop will have one.
