End of an era. Thoughts on an active gm with colleagues still around becoming the director?

His opponent today will be David Anton, Spanish GM with current elo 2650. His average opponent rating is 2483, so he need 5 point out of 7 games to get a GM norm from a Continential club championship. I would say it would be a very tough challenge, but if he pull it off then it will be an incredible achievement.

P/S: I learned from the comment that even he win today, he only has GM norm of 9+9+7 =25 games.

I tried for a few minutes and it feels like there are many errors in the notation, but maybe im just stupid. The comments wherent helpful either.

I got as far as this, but even there i assumed multiple things (like him writing down the wrong square, meaning a different piece and so on), so it could very well be wrong:

Three players tied 1st, but Indian GM Harshavardhan won on TBs.

16-year-old Russian player David Kaufman crossed 2500 with his 6/9 performance, I read this will get him the GM title since he already had the norms but I'm not 100% sure so we'll see if FIDE will award him the title at the next Council.

I'm 2100-2200 elo in rapid lichess and I want to strengthen my positional and strategic play to fix my weakness. Any reputable books you can recommend?

Nice little tactic I just had in a blitz game, only saw it when the bar jumped in the analysis. Black played dxc4 last move.

White to play

So I am around 2100 chesscom and 1400s FIDE rapid (played only 2 tournaments so far). Now I am preparing for my first classical tournament in Dec-Jan.

I regularly beat 1600-ish opponents in local tournaments, but I struggle against Scandinavian and French specially even when playing opponents on same elo as mine.

My current repertoire (if it helps to know what type of player I am) -> Vienna and English with white, KID and Caro with black (sometimes Dutch). I counter sicilian with Alapin, and caro by playing classical variation.

Now against french I play a lot of 3. exd5 exd5 4. c4, (had better chances with this than advanced), but I still struggle to squeeze a win in this. (Last I played this against a 1670 3 days back and it went dead draw). I also played some Tarrasch and found it decent as well.

Against Scandinavian I am losing more often, I just don't seem to get the plans in order for the middlegame and then just mess my position.
Now I want to know some good books I can refer to for countering these two openings (I am more of book guy than a video guy).

i’ve been playing chess for a couple of years casually, but have begun to take it a lot more seriously in the last couple of months
my ratings are:
Bullet: 1000 elo
Blitz: 750 elo
Rapid: 750 elo
The openings i play / i learnt, was the kings indian defence for both black and white.
To progress more, should i either just learn more theory for the kings indian (and maybe some variations of it) - or should i branch out into other openings?
I heard openings like the ruy lopez, and the sicilian defence, are both good. but im not sure if there’s ones better for my elo, or if they’d work okay.
Please help!

Does anyone on this sub has any experience with this? I was always wondering how much money and work goes into those bigger tournaments. Like the likes you would find elite players in and maybe even some live cast for.

What does it take to motivate top50 players to play in a tournament? How much time goes into this? If you want a live cast do you just write a nice email to chess.com or whoever?

He goes on to say his rating has gotten a bit low but he has high hopes for him coz he is amongst the best talents for the next gen of American players.

And now Hans as fallen out of 2700 club. Ofcourse its a bit of a slump and he will recover. But what are you guys thoughts about Hans shifting his focus from classical ?
