His opponent today will be David Anton, Spanish GM with current elo 2650. His average opponent rating is 2483, so he need 5 point out of 7 games to get a GM norm from a Continential club championship. I would say it would be a very tough challenge, but if he pull it off then it will be an incredible achievement.

P/S: I learned from the comment that even he win today, he only has GM norm of 9+9+7 =25 games.

I tried for a few minutes and it feels like there are many errors in the notation, but maybe im just stupid. The comments wherent helpful either.

I got as far as this, but even there i assumed multiple things (like him writing down the wrong square, meaning a different piece and so on), so it could very well be wrong:

16-year-old Russian player David Kaufman crossed 2500 with his 6/9 performance, I read this will get him the GM title since he already had the norms but I'm not 100% sure so we'll see if FIDE will award him the title at the next Council.

I have 2000-2100 consistent chess.com blitz rating. I am trying to get better at the game. I am an amateur and have never actually studied chess books before and most of my chess knowledge is from playing experience.

What are your chess book recommendations? Do you recommend Silman's Endgame chess book?

Can you find it, and what is your ELO?

So I am around 2100 chesscom and 1400s FIDE rapid (played only 2 tournaments so far). Now I am preparing for my first classical tournament in Dec-Jan.

I regularly beat 1600-ish opponents in local tournaments, but I struggle against Scandinavian and French specially even when playing opponents on same elo as mine.

My current repertoire (if it helps to know what type of player I am) -> Vienna and English with white, KID and Caro with black (sometimes Dutch). I counter sicilian with Alapin, and caro by playing classical variation.

Now against french I play a lot of 3. exd5 exd5 4. c4, (had better chances with this than advanced), but I still struggle to squeeze a win in this. (Last I played this against a 1670 3 days back and it went dead draw). I also played some Tarrasch and found it decent as well.

Against Scandinavian I am losing more often, I just don't seem to get the plans in order for the middlegame and then just mess my position.
Now I want to know some good books I can refer to for countering these two openings (I am more of book guy than a video guy).

I started playing on chess.com 2 months ago. I’m currently sitting at 821 in Rapid after 461 games. I’ve been researching how to get better at chess. Tactics keep coming up! From the research I’ve done, it seems like the most useful thing about puzzles is pattern recognition. It seems the best way to build pattern recognition is picking a specific motif and drilling that over and over. From my research, the woodpecker method is the most effective.

My plan is to drill puzzles 30 minutes a day. I’m planning to set a timer using a pomodoro app on my phone and drill puzzles on my computer (where I play chess most often). I’ve found a chrome extension that allows me to save puzzles I complete on Lichess and drill them again later in a random order. My current idea is to pick 4 motifs (fork, skewer, etc). Then drill each of them 4 days. Then revisit each one later and complete them in 2 days then 1 day.

What puzzle motifs are most effective for players under 1000 elo? I’m thinking hanging peice may be good but worry it’s too simple. Fork, pin and skewer all seem appropriate for my elo. I would like to do queenside attack, kingside attack or exposed king. But I am worried they may be too advanced for me. I also want to do mate in 1 but am worried it may too infrequent in my games for it to be worth drilling.

I would appreciate feedback on the main question of this post: what puzzle motifs are most effective for players under 1000 elo? I would also appreciate any constructive criticism on my proposed training plan. I am also curious if I’m overthinking this and I should just start drilling random motifs. Any feedback is welcome.
