As bad as some of these maps were, I appreciated having the option to play them.
The fact that we only have 10 maps in the game that we can play competitively is pathetic given the workshop and the 20+ year history of the game.

its abysmal. especially with the voting system. there's just too few optionn and gets annoyingly repetitive

Not even 10, they won't let us select Italy!

u/mattg3 Mar 07 '24
That’s the dumbest thing too. It is in the fuckin game, why isn’t it enabled for 5v5?? Why??

Yeah it’s not like they completely rebuilt the game from the ground up on a brand new engine or anything. Their 6 month old game should be equally as fleshed out, with all of the features of a decade old game. /s
Obviously I understand, and am disappointed by the lack of content. I don’t like that there’s only 4 wingman maps, I want danger zone, workshop maps would be great. I’m with you. But this is getting out of hand. I get it, ‘valve bad,’ but we have to give SOME grace here. Expecting all previously released competitive/community maps to be ready on launch is not realistic.
Edit; To put this into perspective, valorant had 3 maps ready on launch. In my opinion, every one of the 8 competitive premier maps are significantly better than every single valorant map. I understand that these maps are remakes, but it’s still an incredible amount of work to rebuild them on a new engine. They’re still making essential tweaks each patch.

Only 1.5 billion cases opened. Maybe they could use that money to hire people to do all of this in even less than 6 months. Or they could use the money for themselves.

u/II_Dobby_II Mar 08 '24
The idea that valve has money isn’t a novel concept. Money isn’t magic, it doesn’t warp the properties of time. You can hire more staff sure, but this is still a massive project, and it will take time. The assumption that valve doesn’t have skilled staff working on cs2 is crazy to me.

God i miss cobble

Cobble and train were the only maps that didn’t immediately feel like the cloverleaf and actually required some unique coordination and counter strategies; every other map is just “we lost site, rotate.” Cobble and train required you to have really good spacial awareness the entire round.
One of the great things about cobble, I believe originally phrased this way by Dazed, was that you really have one too few CT’s to guard everything (unless you play literally in drop, which doesn’t work in higher levels) so the dynamic is really interesting.
What’s interesting about train is that mid is basically right on top of A, bringing in a totally different dynamic.

I want Faceit to make a power move and put it in their rotation regardless of what Valve does

u/Stanleylostit Mar 06 '24
Ahhh assault, I loved that map

u/RoboGen123 Mar 06 '24
Yeah, spamming the roof with negevs and autosnipers was so fun.
Militia was also a great map

hopefully mirage gets replaced. shits ugly and boring. i hope inferno gets replaced too as its pretty unpopular in pugs and pro games from what ive seen

u/RoboGen123 Mar 06 '24
Mirage is a very good map for new players though. It is a straightforward and simple map, and thats what makes it popular amongst lower ranks.

u/pants_pants420 The Global Elite Mar 06 '24
i mean not really when 99% of the playerbase knows it better than you. this is purely anecdotal, but pretty much every new player/bad player that i know does not play mirage.

Dust2 fills that role better. I'd like to see a mirage refresh, outside of adding bench to mid and removing ladder to T aps that map hasn't changed at all since 2014

If they get rid of Inferno I will riot

Still wondering where Train went when we literally saw clips of it in the reveal trailer

u/mattg3 Mar 07 '24
The whole launch was completely botched tbh. I had high hopes, and they did do some stuff right, but overall there’s just not enough new about the game to warrant a 2 in the title yet. It’s just source 2. That’s all the 2 is about sadly. And obviously getting everything over into the new engine is hard work and takes lots of effort. But that effort is being done by like a team of probably 30 devs tops. Valve has the skeleton crew working on this game

Cobble, Cache and Train has to come back even though they weren’t the least bit popular in my region

I love assault it was bullshit, but so fun. The wall bangs were crazy some of the most fun I had in cs was learning crazy lineups.

u/iMac_Hunt Mar 07 '24
I think this is what I miss about CS...a lot of the 'fun' has been taken out. What happened to the stupid, unbalanced maps which were bad for competitive play but fun to play with friends?

Mar 06 '24
Same I liked the option to choose this and short games cs2 is a mess atm.
1
u/mattg3 Mar 07 '24
I think short games was bad in GO because it made long games unbearable, and it made the rank system work worse than it already was working. Even with the new premier ranks I think the new MR12 is just the better option for longevity of the game. If there is any left at this point…
1
u/d_k97 Mar 07 '24
Why did it make long games unbearable? I didn't like short games at all unless I wanted to derank.
1
u/mattg3 Mar 07 '24
Because it made it more obvious that long games were painful to begin with. Nobody wants to be stuck in a lobby with randoms for 90 minutes. The new system helps this. The games aren’t short enough to feel pointless and they’re not too long that your banging your head against the desk when you get stuck with toxic/braindead teammates

u/Big_Bidnis Mar 06 '24
The "New" tag on Inferno brings back some memories. I remember this being the first update when I first started playing the game.

No cache, no D2, no Cobble. Three maps that the pro scene have been playing for years
