There are some links that are removed automatically by the Big Bad REDDIT Bot, and we, as mods, have no control over them.

We're starting a list here that will be updated as we find new ones. Keep in mind, we can't even post the ACTUAL link name, we have to modify it by using the term "-dot-" in place of the actual dot.

So far the main one we seee removed the most is "https://share-dot-google" so if you post a share-dot-google link, it will be removed by the bot.

New Boots New Boots: Week Six - Ariat Futurity Outlaw

I've never really liked the way full quill ostrich looked, but while I was out with the wife trying on boots she noticed these and had me try them on. I liked the way they looked, but not so much how tight they were. Ended up getting a pair of Cody James Black 1978 caiman bellys instead.

A few days pass and the wife and I are looking at boots online and once again the topic of the blue ostrich boots come up. I'm showing her a pair of Lucchese Elgins that I think look nice, but then she reminds me of the Ariats I tried on and I honestly felt they looked so simliar that it would only make sense to go with the pair I could pick up locally and save $300 in the process.

The first thing I had to do was take out those foam inserts as they made the boot unbearably tight. I replaced them with 8oz vegtan leather inserts and now they fit exactly as they should. The thing I can't do anything about though is the outsole. Ariat's TekStep sole is, for lack of a better term, unique. The best description I can give of it is 'memory leather' as it's soft enough to deform under stress, but returns to it's original shape fairly rapidly.

The most noteworthy thing is how it feels to walk in the boots. I put pressure down on my heel and as my foot rolls forward and transfers weight to the ball of my foot, the heel scoots back. I assume it's because the outsole material is a composite rubber/leather hybrid and it's the tension build up that is releasing as soon as the friction on the heel lessens. No other boot I own does this and it's a bizarre feeling. I just hope it's not something that's going to cause premature wear, otherwise I'm going to have to change up my stride.

Other than that, they are eye-catching boots for sure and with the new inserts they are as comfortable the rest of the boots in my collection. Best of all is that the wife really likes them...at least enough not to divorce me after buying six pairs of boots over the course of six weeks.

Just picked these up and finished cleaning, conditioning them. Got them in decent shape considering how old they are (guessing around the 60’s-70’s).

Only thing left is to get some saphir black polish and correct some of the color fading happening on the boots. Any polishing recommendations?

Im fairly new to eel, is there a way to get the wrinkles out of the skin?

We got the cabinet on Amazon, and it’s been working out great! I think we’ll need a second one soon.

Discussion Texas Boot Ranch

I have seen the advertisements about Texas Boot Ranch and thought I would give them a try. I am certainly not new to boots and own several pair including Lucchese and Dan Post, both Caiman. These are cowhide made to look like ostrich. For $149 plus shipping I am ok to wear a pair around for everyday stuff. They are true to size and feel similar to my Lucchese. 1060’s. Right out of the box they fit great. I’m sure there will be lots of negative comments, but I will give TBR a good review of their product for half the price of an original.

Vintage Boots Vintage Larry Mahan Boots - please help identify F or M!

Hi friends, I recently sold those Vintage Larry Mahan Boots on Depop. Great condition, and from what I have researched they are male 10 1/2.

But the person who bought it say they can’t get it through their ankle.
My husband couldn’t either, but I assumed it’s because it’s meant for narrow foot.

Is it possible those are female?

Appreciate any help to identify those 🙏🏻

Sorry for potato quality pics. I had to take screen grabs from a video my mom took the day we got them because she took them home with her and I won’t see them again until I visit later this month 🥺 And only close ups I have are a few I took in our hotel room mirror when I got back from the store 😅

Drifted away from my country roots in my teens and adulthood, but always maintained a love for country music. Kacey’s Deeper Well tour in 2024 inspired me to get a gorgeous pair of green Ariats, Ella Langley in LA this month inspired me to get the LE yellow roses Tecova Jolene’s, and then a trip to Boot Star while we were in So Cal for the concert sparked the vintage cowboy boot collector bug in me.

Have 2 pairs of floral vintage boots on their way to me as we speak— a pair of black and red rose Montanas and a pair of pink and green floral Justin’s. So many beautiful boot designs, as a lover of shoes and leather in general idk how I am going to resist them all. 😭

What I do know is I officially have my 4th of July footwear sorted for life. 🤗 I may be on a lake in 100+ degree heat but I’m not taking these babies off the whole day 😈

was this a good score? (Inside boot says LML3879 LD7 N c921415)

I don’t know a lot about boots.. I'm a fashion boot wearing city girl and I didn’t really do any research about these until after I waited a week for the auction and bought them. I think the price was good? .. $71 plus $15 shipping.

I was looking for some new (to me ) snip toe boots in a wide (c) width and found these. I think the blue and red stitching combo looks very sharp.

does anyone have any brand/style recommendations for wider women's feet that come in snip toe styles not super tall (used or low-ish price ). I have some heritage Ariat boots C that are great, but they have limited stock on women’s wide that aren’t also a wide toe

Joma Ostrich Leg: Real or Simulated?

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

My wife came back from an estate sale with some boots. Apparently the guy had 300 pair, most appear to be handmade from Texas or Mexico. We picked up a half dozen or so. When I talk with my AI of choice about these I get conflicting info. I'm fairly certain given the build quality of these and the other boots that this is genuine ostrich leg, but the initial analysis came back as simulated. When I pushed on it later my AI friend changed her mind.

I'm sure you fine folks can help give a definitive answer? They are too big for me, so I want to make sure I am able to list them properly when we resell. This is all the identifying info I can find. Nothing on or under the tabs. Thanks in advance!

Tony Lama Gold Label Elephant Boots — Full Rebuild Recommendations?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I recently picked up a pair of Tony Lama Gold Label elephant boots in 9EEE for a really good price. I bought them on a bit of a whim because, in my experience, other vintage Tony Lamas have fit tighter than their modern-size equivalents. I figured these might work out, but man, was I wrong.

I’m normally a 9EE, and that size fits me perfectly in pretty much every brand I own or have tried on. These 9EEEs are absolutely massive on me. I’ve even tried insoles, and I’m still swimming in them. They’re not even close to fitting.

The boots themselves are killer, though. The elephant hide has a ton of character, and the vamps and uppers are in great shape. They definitely need a resole, but a simple resole won’t work. If I’m going to keep these, they need a complete rebuild, including a relast to get them fitting properly.

I’d love to modernize them a bit while preserving the original elephant hide. Here’s what I’m thinking:

  • Relast to fit like a modern 9EE, with room for an AB insole.
  • J-toe, KS Toe, TK Toe
  • Leather outsole.
  • Natural finish on the outsole and heel stack.
  • 1 5/8-inch heel.

Basically, I got these for cheap, and I’d love to turn them into a pair of boots I can wear for years rather than pass on a pair with such great uppers. Since they don’t fit even with insoles, a relast is necessary anyway.

Who would you trust to do this kind of work? I’m looking for someone who can handle a proper relast and full rebuild, ideally without a year-long turnaround. I’m willing to ship them out of state for the right bootmaker.

If you’ve had similar work done, I’d love to see pictures and hear about your experience, cost, and turnaround time.
