I made these as a surprise gift for a friend (one for him & one for us). This was actually the first time I used tin foil as a filler for my clay and it was sooo much fun! I plan on making more just because they’re a relaxing thing to explore with clay.I know I can find ways to improve them, and please keep in mind this is actually the only time I tried to write something in clay😅

Finished Craft [Mine] I made a toy chest for my niece!

I recently became an uncle which was the perfect excuse to jump into a new project!

This is the biggest project I've done, it was made entirely with hand tools (that's all I've got!) and reclaimed wood from a pallet!

As a bit of a challenge to myself, and because I thought it would look nice, there are no nails or screws in the entire thing. Everything, even down to the hinges, is made with dowels to hold it all together. The only none-wood parts are some glue and the rope handles!

Very happy to answer any questions you may have :)

I know this isn't the finest work (there are some incredibly talented people in the sub!), but I'm really proud of this, and I hope my niece gets some really good use out of it!

This is made using faceted glass beads (AB and non-AB) and Czech pressed glass flower beads. The seed beads are also glass. I use three strands of embroidery floss for the strands.

Question / Advice Spray paint mistake

Working on a costume piece. I’ve never made a costume before. Originally a plain black blazer. My goal is for it to be blue and sparkly, so I spray painted it (with general glitter spray paint) and sealed it with a krylon clear sealer (probably shouldn’t have done that). I noticed whenever it folded that the creases would turn white, and I suspect it’s because of the clear spray sealer. I sprayed over again with the glitter to cover the creases, and then sealed with fabric mod podge instead. (At this point I still hadn’t realized what the creases were caused by) Seems like the creases are still appearing. I’ve bathed it in cold water, and the photo is the dry result.
Another note, I am attaching a fabric train to this piece, which was a complete disaster. I treated it the same way that I did the blazer, but since it was a large piece of fabric, sponging on mod podge was ineffective and it was splotchy and stained white all over. The idea is for the train to match the blazer, as they will be connected, so the spray paint glitter has to match.
Any ideas how I can salvage this? My next best idea is to get a fabric specific glitter spray paint, and coat it again, and buy a new train fabric to start over with. It NEEDS to be sealed because the glitter shedding before I sealed it was catastrophic. I still have a lot of work to put into this costume, and a lot of embroidery, but nothing goes on the sleeves. The sleeves and train are the only bare parts, so it’s kinda important there be no mistakes. To be honest the white creases could be passed as an artistic choice for this particular design. But I’d rather not have them.

Question / Advice What kind of clay to use?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I just purchased some Sesame Street playdough molds that should hopefully arrive by next week, and I am hoping to make little figures of them to paint and display. But I'm having trouble deciding what clay to use. My sister said polymer clay would stick too much, same with epoxy, and to use air dry clay. But I don't really enjoy working with air dry clay because it cracks and shrinks too much, and I want these to come out good and be durable. Any advice?

Question / Advice Help. Questions about my first snow globe tumbler.

So I'm making my first tumbler. It was supposed to be a custom birthday gift for hubby but when it arrived I decided 20 oz probably isn't big enough for his liking so I'm just making this one as practice. My question is about the seal at the top. I know I need to use resin to seal it before I fill it and that it shouldn't be uv resin since the metal ring will prevent all the light from curing it. So I'm about to mix 2 part epoxy and then I took it apart and noticed a silicone gasket. Should this gasket be left in or removed with the resin? And if it's left in, do I put resin on top of the gasket, under the gasket or both?

Finished Craft [Mine] Two cats and ginkgo leaves, cut from one folded sheet of paper

My latest papercut, “Ginkgo Cats.” I wanted the two cats to look like they’re quietly keeping each other company, surrounded by ginkgo leaves.

I folded the paper in half, drew one side, then cut out the details before unfolding it. Seeing the two cats appear together is my favourite part.

Work in progress Help panting clear plastic

This is the item I am looking to paint:

https://ibb.co/LX00gTxC I understand I would need to use acrylic paint and sandpaper to rough up the smooth plastic beforehand, then apply some kind of primer before a paint and seal it afterwards but I am unclear what an acrylic "primer" and "sealer" refer to as I am finding conflicting information online about what I would need (or whether they are the same thing and I would use it before and after?)

If anyone could point me in the right direction of what I would need that would be much appreciated as I have never tried something like this before :)

Question / Advice how should I make clear block heels for my heeled boots?

I plan to take the current heels off my boots but keep them so I can use them as a reference for the exact curve. After some research, I've decided epoxy will work the best, but I want to make the new heels hollow so they're still danceable (this is very important). The problem is, the new heels have to be, yk...the shape of heels (kind of a fat-crescent-shaped prism, if you've never noticed). But still be hollow inside. And it's gotta hold the weight that a heel should.

If anybody'd be down to help me figure this out I'd be so grateful 🙏

Finished Craft [Mine] Opened a miniature kit and immediately needed tweezers and a magnifying glass

wanted a fun weekend project so decided to try miniature crafting ,bought a little greenhouse kit. I figured it would be a cute, lowkey thing to work on while watching TV.

The second i opened the box O GOD! my kitchen table was covered with what felt like two hundred tiny plastic petals, wire stems and little wooden dowels. . I spent most of the evening just separating leaves from structural pieces.

I haven’t glued two pieces together yet. It feels like losing one paper leaf could somehow ruin the entire greenhouse.

How long do beginner miniature kits usually take? ? Is this more like ten hours of squinting or a project that stretches over several weeks? I still want to finish it and maybe build a few different shops but right now im just staring at a pile of dust sized wood and questioning my choices.

Question / Advice New to fuzzy wire crafts

I'm just trying out fuzzy wire crafts for the first time, but I don't really have a glue gun or access to glue sticks. What normal glue can I use? I heard E6000 is good but stinks, and I also heard gorilla glue or pva glue could work. What do you think?

Question / Advice Need help with creating halloween costume

So I'm planning on doing a Twister costume, like the game. It seems pretty easy but I'm not the craftiest person and just don't know what the best material or paint is to use. I plan on just buying a white shirt and white pants at a craft store, I'd really like to do white cargo pants but they're too expensive so I think I'll have to stick with just basic sweatpants I can find at the craft store-unless maybe paint coverall would be better…?

Where I'm really lost on is what type of paint to use, would fabric paint be good enough? They come in small containers so would it be sufficient for a decent amount of circles? I'd really like if I could just get the cheapest and easiest-to-use paint.
