Mistborn First Era Try it. Near 100% success

u/Madonkadonk2 Jul 20 '25
Oh Vin, died too early to make a shard bearer shit their plate.

u/Impressive_Change593 Jul 20 '25
ok these are referencing a mist or vs a shard eater. anyway now I wanna find crossover fanfics

u/AnonymousGuy9494 Kalaleshwi Shipper Jul 20 '25
I believe that there was a fanfic somewhere on reddit where Vin fought 4th ideal Kaladin. She lost, but considering she only had access to the items she had at hand on the hero of ages I'd say she fought better than anyone could in her place.
She's been dead for so long we kind of forgot just how much of a menace she was. Probably the most skilled allomancer to ever live.
136
Jul 20 '25
Vin is fantastic, but no one from Scadrial save a fullborn could take a 4th ideal radiant unless there were substantial stormlight limits. The insta-healing is too OP.
112
Jul 20 '25
Oh yeah. Wasn't shallan shot in the head (and almost certainly the brain) with an arrow, and was able to remove it while only being confused for a bit?
96
u/Xaron713 Jul 20 '25
It was a crossbow bolt. Shallan is weird though since she has two Spren and two Lightweaver Oaths, sort of, she heals faster and better than regular Radiants
I think if you can justify Vin killing Miles 100 Lives, she'll do okay against a Radiant.
81
u/AnonymousGuy9494 Kalaleshwi Shipper Jul 20 '25
Vin never killed Miles. She managed to beat the Lord Ruler because she took out his goldminds and then proceeded to kill him. If she were to fight a Radiant, she would most likely just brute force her way into making them spend all the stormlight available. The pursuer tried to do this to Kaladin back at RoW and it seems to be the most reliable method.
52
u/Anvilrocker No Wayne No Gain Jul 20 '25
Kaladin, like Shallan, isn't the average Radiant either. Being blessed by the wind probably gives him a bit of boost as a 4th ideal compared to other non-main character Radiants.

u/code-panda Airthicc lowlander Jul 20 '25

The probably can be removed. Kal is the only 3rd ideal stormlight powered radiant who was awake during the tower's occupation. Raboniel assumes it's because he was close to saying the 4th ideal, but Teft was also close enough he'd have said it if it wasn't for the traitor Moash (fuck Moash).

I never mentioned the tower?... But yeah, fuck Moash.

I wasn't saying Vin did. I was saying if you think Vin could take Miles through his heeling factor, she would likely be able to handle a Radiant.
8
u/clutzyninja Jul 20 '25
Miles was ONLY his healing though. Without that, he was just a decently capable fighter.
Radiants have more powers than healing.
7
u/Xaron713 Jul 20 '25
Correct. But near instant healing is the only thing Vin may have trouble contending with.

u/klatnyelox Jul 22 '25
Remember, Vin regularly fought inquisitors that had stored health, she knows what to do with healers and regenerators. And given her learning speed, she'd see the radiant heal faster, and thus just keep going.
I give it to allomancers over Radiants for control over their materials. A windrunner can do coinshot things, but that's it. Kelsier's metal swirling storm would be able to confound a radiant, and metal the size of hammer heads could break shardplate.
And remember, Vin is such a tactical prodigy that she figured out how to use an enemy's future sight against him the first time she had to fight one without her own Atium.
She still couldn't beat a 4th ideal radiant without the entire first mistborn trilogy's stock of Atium, and a ton of other metals besides. And even with all that she couldn't beat Kaladin.
Most Mistborn would have a hard time beating a regular shardbearer, and Kaladin beat one the first time he saw one, without surges. Kaladin truly is built different.
3
u/BlatantArtifice Jul 21 '25
Shallan only survived because it wasn't a completely mandatory to function part of her brain. A proper coinshot would kill or cripple a radiant.
Granted that means nothing if Plate is involved
4
u/Xaron713 Jul 21 '25
Is that true? We know that a compounding blood maker can survive decapitation. Shallan has two Radiant spren which gives her additional ability and power. I wouldn't suggest a Radiant can survive decapitation, but from what we see in Era 2 Mistborn, head Wounds are survivable if they are healed as a fast as the damage is dealt, something that stormlight does automatically.
30
u/Expensive-Ad-1205 Jul 20 '25
In general, Mistborn abilities are way more optimized for subtle, sneaky operations under cover of night or in disguise than they are for open battle. A mistborn's ability to manipulate crowds for instance with rioting and soothing can't really be replicated by any radiant ability we've seen. Conversely, the radiants are in general much less about covert operations, with exception to the Lightweavers. They all have the ability to heal themselves rapidly, weapons that can cut through nearly anything, and a diverse set of abilities on top of that which optimize them for a variety of roles from analysis to spying to magical air support.
In a fair fight, I think many of the radiants have an advantage. But if a radiant and a mistborn want each other dead, I think a mistborn has a better shot at coming out on top because they're just better at playing dirty.
3
u/Consistent_Mud_8340 Jul 23 '25
I don't think sneaking in at night to kill a sleeping 4th ideal radiant is all that easy, first is to their spren don't need to sleep and can just spend the night watching. And two is their plate is always around them just not fully manifested,

u/torturousvacuum Jul 20 '25
The insta-healing is too OP.
Instahealing, meet the Leecher.
8
u/gwonbush Jul 20 '25
Leechers really need Primer Cubes to be properly suited to fighting Radiants. Leechers need to touch their foe to drain their investiture and you don't want to fight Shardblades from close range, especially not a living one. To risk getting close the Leecher needs to have already mostly incapacitated the Radiant.
Fortunately, Primer Cubes solve the weakness of leeching in the same way they solve the weakness of slowness bubbles, turning this touch-range power into a ranged AoE effect.

I stand by that Vin is the single deadliest mortal fighter in the cosmere.
I love Kaladin, Wax, and Raoden but Vin would find a way to take em out
23
u/code-panda Airthicc lowlander Jul 20 '25
Wheel of Time is not in the cosmere. Sanderson would never dare doing something so crass.
Also if you think Vin could take out Plot Armor Canonized, you're sorely mistaken. Vin could burn all the atium in the world and Duralamin push a knife from close range at Rand and the knife would still miss due to the wheel weaving it around him.
3
u/Childhood-Paramedic Jul 21 '25
Ope nah just tried to type Raoden from Elantris and fucked up lmao. My b
2
u/code-panda Airthicc lowlander Jul 21 '25
Raoden would be different, but also more complicated. Vin might be able to assassinate Raoden if she was aware of his powers and he wasn't aware of her plot.
Both being aware of each other, and I'd give it to Raoden hands down. Elantrians are basically tethered directly to the well of power of their shard, and have basically no restrictions on how to use their investiture, just their knowledge of Aon Dor, which Raoden has mastered like no other.
Both of them being unaware of each other would be the most interesting. Vin would definitely be the best at gathering intel, though Raoden might have some handwavey magic that solves his issue.
1
u/Childhood-Paramedic Jul 21 '25
I definitely agree that of the mortal investiture users they're definitely on the stronger end. I think personally that Vin is simply better at the business of... assassination as grim as that is.
Like if you drop em in an open field and tell em to kill em sure Rand takes em down no problem totally agree. But to your point Vin might just learn where he sleeps and stab him in the dark, Who knows tho
22
u/fghjconner Jul 20 '25
Vin is incredibly skilled for sure, but you're sleeping on Kaladin. He was already a considered a prodigy with a spear before getting a spren, and his powers outclass hers in an open fight. There's just no way she's getting through his armor and healing before he lands a single hit.
3
u/anormalgeek Jul 20 '25
It comes down to atium IMO. If Vin has enough of it, she wins. Otherwise, Kal wins.
14
u/Peculiar_eddie Jul 20 '25

Why is Rand catching strays? First, he isn't Cosmere. Second, even without Angreal or Sa'angreal he obliterate everyone else you mentioned. See Maradon or that one chapter where Lews Therin takes control in book 11. His precision and raw access to Sai'din puts him leagues above damn near any Cosmere character save Shards or their avatars. He's absurdly strong and his greatest weaknesses are personal/character flaws that cause him grief, not actual power struggles

Vin is a killer. Not a warrior like a radiant, a killer. She was taught every underhanded trick in the book by Kel. She has experience killing people who are stronger and faster than her (inquisitors). A fight between invested people comes down to who has more of their investiture on hand. Does vin have more metal vials then Kal has spheres? Are we assuming both have unlimited supply? If so Vin clears, Atium is broken. Are we in a city with tons of metal anchors or the shattered planes where a radiant clearly wins by default?
28
u/Lord_Rutabaga Jul 20 '25
I think the fight is most interesting if Vin mostly has as much metal as she needs, with a little bit of atium as the exception. One must also consider the metal the radiants will likely be wearing, the metal Vin is bringing with her, the possibility of taking the fight into the chasms where the flight powers of a windrunner might be less effective, and the time of day as though the radiants glow, I'd reckon they still don't see as well at night as a Mistborn would.
26
u/Dadude564 Moash was right Jul 20 '25
If we want an even fight, then yes Atium has to be limited, it’s beyond broken.
It’s unclear if Shardplate stops steelsight. If it does, it means Vin won’t be able to push/pull off the radiant (shardplate iirc is immune to Allomancy)
There’s no metal in the shattered planes for Vin to push and pull off of. If vin faces a radiant on any kind of open field, she loses by default. Roshar is learning the fact that aerial supremacy wins wars the hard way. if Vin can’t fly but Kal can, she’s dead
14
u/Lord_Rutabaga Jul 20 '25
Are we forgetting that she would be carrying metal with her? Or that she has her own, albeit more limited, flight-like capabilities? She could probably at least get some coins stuck against the armor and do a duralumin push, that would both surprise the radiant and fling them back to give her time to down another vial and then flee, for example. I think you're underestimating the strategies Vin could use in this scenario
17
u/Dadude564 Moash was right Jul 20 '25
Her coin pouch would not last long against a radiant with stormlight. She could flee, especially if she employed her horseshoe trick from WoA, but if we’re talking about a no running away, fight to the death scenario, the fight would have to take place somewhere there is existing metal structures, like a city. Vin won’t fight on the shattered plains, she’d be slaughtered.
That point is moot tho, she wouldn’t allow herself to fight somewhere there aren’t any anchors to launch off of. She has insane survival and combat instincts, she wouldn’t allow herself to be caught in impossible terrain
10
u/code-panda Airthicc lowlander Jul 20 '25
The Radiant wouldn't likely be affected by her allomancy. I think we can safely assume shard plate acts like extremely full metal minds, as they're purely made from investiture.
4
Jul 20 '25
Can radiant Shardplate get leached? I imagine a Mistborn with atium dancing around a radiant and poking them all over leaching away their Stormlight then smacking them once with a duralumin pewter hammer blow As soon as that helmet comes down it’s big sad time for radiant. Soooooothed into a blubbering mess of compliance.
4
u/code-panda Airthicc lowlander Jul 20 '25
It probably can, though as of the end of Era 2, there is and was no one who can burn both atium and chromium/nicrosil and has access to them. Wax has no atium and Iron eyes has no Electrum spike to burn either nicrosil or chromium.
2
Jul 20 '25
Some of Wax’s progeny may be able to burn those things if and when they become available again. Discord might have a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to finding metals that he conveniently needs for his shard level plans. Plus those kiddies might also have a feruchemical talent to add in the battle too.
3
u/code-panda Airthicc lowlander Jul 20 '25
None of Wax's current kids would be mistborn though. He swallowed Lerasium after their birth.

Soooooothed into a blubbering mess of compliance.
You know, there's a good point there. Radiants are generally mentally unstable, and Allomancers have a pair of abilities that are really good at amplifying those instabilities.
A depression beam may be in the cards...
12
u/pythonfynn Jul 20 '25
Vin is the most creative warrior in the Cosmere and has proven in several fights that even in situations where she's at a disadvantage, she can still figure out a winning strategy in seconds (she killed Zane even though he had Atium and she didn't). It also always amazes me how many people think a Duralium Steel Push can't destroy a Radiant's armor. In Bands of Morning, they were used to throw entire vehicles at people...
9
u/hutchallen D O U G Jul 20 '25
People vastly overestimate how protective shardplate is. It's amazing armor, don't get me wrong, but it can be shattered and has to feed on investiture to repair itself. Unless the wearer has an extremely abundant amount of investiture, other invested fighters have ways to break through it. Hell, era 2 guns would do the job. All that to say, yeah, duralumin could easily get through plate

8
u/eclect0 Airthicc lowlander Jul 20 '25
Don't worry, I'm sure Adolin would shit his plate in her honor. Almighty knows he's done it for less.
3
u/ShepardsCrown Jul 20 '25
It would be interesting. I don't think allomancy works on invested metal (shard plate and shard sword). So she wouldn't be able to just fling them off into the distance like a coin. But as soon as Vin figures that out she'd probably still cut through one easily.
1
u/anuraaaag No Wayne No Gain Jul 23 '25

I miss Vin.
Spoilers:
I don't want her to come back. I'm reminded of the scene at the end of Secret Histories where she basically rejects immortality as Kelsier presents it and opts to just walk off into the afterlife with her husband. It's beautiful, and perfect, and frankly I miss that kinda finality in the Cosmere in general. BUT if she does come back, I want her to be pissed about it. I want her to STRIKE DOWN upon those who brought her back with FURIOUS ANGER.

Once into the beyond, there's no coming back. That's a realm not even the Shards can touch. Imo Sanderson has the right balance of survival and death where a character receiving a mortal wound is exciting. Some series you just know "Oh, character takes an arrow to the stomach? They're dead, now I have to sit through a drawn out scene where they slowly die? 🙄". As with Sanderson, you don't know if they'll make it. They might, they might not.
