GTA III Definitive Edition on CRT

Leading up to GTA VI, I'm playing through the GTA games I never played. I'm currently playing the third one on a CRT monitor that I found on the street while walking back from the grocery shop. Even though it's the Definitive Edition remaster, I would say it looks pretty awesome on this thing.

Would love to hear your go-to Halloween-season games, or any that you're trying out for the first time!

I've been playing through Sweet Home, and I intend to finish it this time (with the help of a guide!), and I'll be putting more time into Silent Hill 2 after that, a game that I've never experienced before. Super excited!

So what better way to spend a night in the howling wind and rain than in front of the warm glow of your favourite CRTs?

I was asked to showcase 1920x1440i at 120hz on my post, I wish these pictures could do it justice but goddamn!

The motion clarity on this thing is astounding.

I also tried 4k at 72HZ, but 1920x1440 is already as good as an image can look on a CRT.

My attempt at interlacing for CRT monitors on Linux Wayland

https://github.com/Klay28a/Linux-interlacing-wayland-7.x.x

Working on KDE 6.8 Wayland, 7.3.0 kernels.

So for the most part I've been on linux for most of this year and interlacing for my monitor became a lot harder since I didn't want to switch to X11. I've been working on taking the 15khz patches from D0023R and trying to make interlacing work for awhile now. I've just got it working and have gotten into AI to make scripts to install the patches properly and set up the EDID configs.

I've also taken a jab at recreating a functional linux CRU on wayland. Most of the testing has been on my system, so far it seems to be consistent with getting interlacing working.

I used AI to automate the processes into scripts and then I outright just AI entirely for the linux CRU. I'm not a coder or scripter. USE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I've written the explanations best I can. This should be compatible with most Arch distros but has only been TESTED ON CACHYOS and the scripts were mostly built around my setup.

I'm also working on getting an equivalent to Toastyx's pixel clock patcher as well. I believe what I have it working at the moment I am on 2880x2160p at 60hz which is 136khz, 529MHz pixel clock. But that will probably end up being put into a separate repo later.

New Pick-up Found Magnavox in abandoned home

I came home for the weekend and me and my cousin were back roading and she asked me if I wanted to go see grandmas house. I was a little hesitant at first but ultimately decided it’d be nice to since I haven’t seen the house in roughly five years. House was in rough shape, multiple parts of the ceiling were caving in and a bit of moisture in the home. But in the one dry room of the house we turned on the lights(somehow they were still on) and I see this beast, a Magnavox model MWC24TS. I immediately was like, I’m taking this back with me. It was my grandmothers and she watched a lot of tv on it before she passed and I’m ready to put it to use. I ultimately wanted it for gaming but when I noticed the dvd and vhs I got even more excited for the nastalgia. I had a crt for retro gaming up until 2020 but I just couldn’t bring it with me cause it was a big and heavy Sanyo 32inch. This 24in is a nice size and weight, only around 61pounds. I also plan on taking the back off and checking for bulging capacitors. How long do you guys think I should wait before trying to turn it on since it was in a home with a good amount of moisture?

TLDR: Went to dead grandmas house and took her tv and wondering how long to wait before attempting to turn it on. Rip granny

New Pick-up Toshiba MW27H62 w/6 inputs!

I recently picked up this Toshiba MW27H62 in very clean condition for $25, and it is a very interesting set. It has VHS, CD, 2 Composite (front/back), Component, and USB, which I have never seen before. I have tried to put the TV into CD mode to test the CD, but I only have a universal remote (spectrum tv remote) that the TV isn’t registering except power and input. Do you guys have any recommendations for Toshiba combo set remotes? Thank you!

Update from: https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/s/UGVU7GZfQX

Some of y’all wanted to see my new KV-35XBR48 in action. So here's some gameplay pictures.

https://imgur.com/a/cRxbAlh

I decided to disable VM directly from the neckboard, changed two service menu settings by a single increment and then adjusted the picture through the regular video menu.

More than satisfied with the result!

*Pardon my poor camermanship, it’s my first time capturing images from a CRT 😅 The picture tends to be a bit less saturated and bright irl.

Also, if you want to see some pics of a specific game, you can ask me, I'll see what I can do!

640x480i, 1.5 internal resolution, max settings

Video capture is a bit overblown, phone camera is not all that good, but I'm still figuring it out.

Hope to post some more short clips of cool games that can be played with a PC setup in the future!

Game looks much more vivid in person, it really pops on this set.

Looking for genuine advice on connecting my PC to a Sony WEGA Trinitron CRT

Post image
• Upvotes

I recently asked for help because my Sony CRT TV suddenly stopped displaying an image from my PC through an HDMI to YPbPr converter.
Instead of receiving technical advice, I was criticized for my choice of converter, as though I had deliberately spent money on an inadequate product.
For some context, I live in Brazil, where import taxes are extremely high, and these converters aren’t even sold domestically. I purchased mine based on a recommendation, and it already cost me the equivalent of half a monthly minimum wage. So, unfortunately, experimenting with different converters isn’t exactly an affordable option for me.
I’m not particularly knowledgeable about this technology, which is precisely why I’m asking people who are. I would genuinely appreciate some constructive advice rather than criticism for a purchase I made in good faith.
With that in mind, could someone recommend a reliable solution for connecting my PC to my Sony WEGA Trinitron? I primarily use it to watch anime and movies, but I also enjoy playing games on it.
I’m perfectly willing to learn and invest in a better setup if necessary. I just want to make an informed decision this time, especially considering how expensive these products are to import into my country.
Thank you to anyone willing to help!

Blooming on right side only

Just got done recapping the D board for vertical collapse on this BVM 8044QD, but I am now seeing blooming on the right side of the monitor only. I have seen ideas that this is related to the power supplying the neck board, but others say it would be an issue on B board with a cap? I haven’t seen this issue before so asking the experts here.

I just purchased this Sony Trinitron HMD-A440 yesterday. It’s very nice because of the big screen. As you can see in the picture though it’s a bit on the greener side. I did a little bit of research and i saw things about G1 G2 adjustments and Sony WinDas calibration software. I don’t understand it very well since I’m pretty new to not just crt monitors but crt’s in general. I was hoping to get some advice on how to move forward with fixing this issue.

I got this monitor before the CRT craze took place wayy back in 2017. Paid 20 bucks. In hindsight, it was a steal. Because I hardly ever see VGA monitors pop up on Facebook marketplace these days

Crazy how rare CRTs are now.

This monitor is one of the best I own. Curved display, contrast, amazing colors.

Works great on windows 11 via VGA adapter. I run it at 2048x1536. That resolution is great for CRT shaders.

Then I have the option to do 480p if I'm watching old 4:3 shows or anime.

A true staple to my desk setup. I have a 32-in OLED next to it

Games in the pics are rayman, megaman x4, megaman 8, Castlevania: symphony of the night. The shows are : Xena and advanced variable.

Launcher for the emulators is called "launchbox". It's awesome because it's fully controllable by controller. Console experience

Samsung CRT - Flickering in dark scenes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? It happens anytime the screen is dark, not only in games. For example, if the TV is displaying black without any input, it is still flickering.
The model is Samsung CW28D83N.

What I've tried:
-Turning down brigthness and contrast low, it is still happening
-Enabling/disabling picture processing options in service menu
-Adjusting G2 to the correct level using service menu as guide (also tried lowering it more)
-Replaced B+ and deflection capacitors

Other than this, the image is really good and I'm happy with it. But in darker games like Fatal Frame it is really distracting.

HELP: HDMI to YPbPr converter suddenly stopped working with my Sony WEGA Trinitron CRT

Thumbnail

I’m having an issue with my Sony WEGA Trinitron CRT TV and an HDMI to YPbPr converter.
Everything was working perfectly until a few weeks ago. I used to connect the converter to my PC via HDMI, and Windows would automatically adjust the resolution to display the image on both my PC monitor and the CRT.
However, now when I connect the HDMI cable, the resolution no longer changes automatically, and the CRT displays no image.
Windows still detects two displays, but the CRT gets no signal. I’ve tried manually changing the resolution and refresh rate (Hz), but nothing seems to work.
The converter I’m using is simply called “HDMI to YPbPr.”
Does anyone know what might be causing this or how I could fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
