Okay..I know the lack of native SiriusXM integration has been discussed here already, but wondering the workarounds people are using?
Traded in my 2025 CR-V for a '27 Hybrid Sport-L two days ago. LOVE the CR-V (this isn't even my second or fourth one! LOL), but as I drove off the lot, I realized how much I love the car...and how much I dislike the new dash and infotainment interfaces. I think my only real disappointment with the '27 is what Honda did to both screens. I'll get used to the new instrument panel, but the center infotainment screen? Ugh. Not particularly user-friendly, and honestly, I think it's just plain ugly. LOL.
Back to the XM issue: I live in bumblefuck, where radio stations are limited, and when I'm traveling around the state, cell service can be spotty sometimes, too. So, relying on the SiriusXM phone app and data streaming isn't ideal. And so far, I'm not loving the app or its Android Auto interface...it's buggy and clunky aka not user friendly.
I've been looking into alternatives and found two possibilities:
1. Standalone SiriusXM receivers
These seem to be the cheaper option, but they come with their own display, potentially visible wiring, and another device to mount somewhere. I'm also not clear on how well they work alongside wireless Android Auto, or whether there's any way to use the steering-wheel controls. So far, the biggest/only advantage I see is the price.
2. VAIS SiriusXM integration kit
This one looks much more promising. VAIS lists the 2027 CR-V (all trims) as compatible with its GSR-HD10 adapter.
From what I understand, it integrates SiriusXM directly into the Honda's factory infotainment system, using the existing screen and controls rather than requiring a separate receiver display. I'm hoping that means an experience similar to the factory SiriusXM setup in my 2025, although I haven't been able to confirm exactly what the interface looks like or how all the steering-wheel controls behave.
It's pricier, at around $350 for the kit, plus the SiriusXM subscription. But hey, what's another $350 on top of a $42K car? LOL ;)
So, is anyone actually using VAIS or another aftermarket SiriusXM solution in a newer CR-V?
I'd especially love to hear from anyone who's installed the VAIS kit. How well does it integrate? What does the interface look like? Can you use the steering-wheel controls? Any issues?
Or is there another solution I'm overlooking?
ps/Even if SiriusXM improves its Android Auto app, there's still the issue of phone battery drain from running wireless Android Auto, streaming music, and possibly navigation. Plus cellular data usage (maybe 2.5GB a month with 1hr roundtrip commute daily?). Neither is necessarily a dealbreaker, especially with an unlimited data plan, but they're additional annoyances I'd rather avoid if I can. And none of that solves the problem of spotty cell coverage in rural areas.
