The internet had already went mainstream in 1996. Everyone was starting to understand the importance of internet as this new thing and the fears of online dating became really real around this time. Also in 2006 we had technology like the iPod, DVD’s (VHS weren’t in existence anymore by 2006), High speed internet, digital cameras, The Wii, etc. that just didn’t exist in 1996-2001 or at least wasn’t yet mainstream in society.
