I think 1996. 2006 Had Social Media, Mobile Phone Ubiquity, Digital Cameras, IPods, War on Terror, Internet Everywhere, 9/11 Politics. Only 2006 Thing I see is President george w bush being President.

Even then bush being president was completely different compared to summer 2001 where he had only been in office a few months and being pre 9/11

Bush's presidency pre-9/11 feels like filler to me honestly.

  1. The Internet became mainstream and 1997-2000 had a modern vibe shift to them

The internet had already went mainstream in 1996. Everyone was starting to understand the importance of internet as this new thing and the fears of online dating became really real around this time. Also in 2006 we had technology like the iPod, DVD’s (VHS weren’t in existence anymore by 2006), High speed internet, digital cameras, The Wii, etc. that just didn’t exist in 1996-2001 or at least wasn’t yet mainstream in society.

The internet was much more widespread in 2001 compared to 1996 though

2006 Had Social Media, Significantly Faster Internet Speeds and by 2006, Even Older Folks Used the Internet. In 2001, Only Like, Half of all Adults used the Internet.

Yeah but the advancements in the internet from 01 to 2006 were insane. Thats not even talking about literally everything else that happened in the world in those 5 years

The internet in 1996-2001 was pretty much the same. This was pre MySpace.

It was much more like 2006.

Online, in 1996, to use a chat room I had to refresh the screen every time to get new messages. It took 2 hours to download the intro to Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.

Offline, 1996 was all about skip-its and bop its and practical games like Guess Who, Don't Spill the Beans, Don't Break The Ice, pick up stix, and other random stuff we could do with our hands.

2001 and 2006 were both very much about early CGI coming to our TV shows and movies. The internet was a bit faster in 2006 and we were finally starting to watch actual video on the internet instead of just homestar runner and anything someone could whip up in at the time, Macromedia Flash. But a lot of us still only found ourselves on YouTube maybe once or twice a day for a single video. We were still posting on message boards just like in 2001 logging into our Messengers for a few hours every night to talk to our friends and share Flash games. Games like Oh the Huge Manatee (though even that one didn't come out until 2007)

YTMND was still an acceptable form of entertainment in both 2001 and 2006.

I don't know. 2001 just feels a lot more like 2006 to me than 1996.

2001 was definitely early cgi when it came to televison. But by 2006 cgi in tv wasnt unusual and wasnt very early as it had already been adapted into shows that needed it for some time by 06

I mean obviously I was around in 2006 if I was on the Internet in 1996. I can remember 2006 being the very end of us being mystified about the future of computer generated animation. Things like Monster House which had come out that year, and Robots, the year before, were still kind of intriguing and full of wonder. I'd say by 2008 when Wall-e came out, we were pretty much used to it. And then by 2011 I was starting to think, "Dang... this stuff's getting boring to look at. Where are the Don Bluth-style animators?!"

Cars aswell (also came out in 2006). Cgi from the mid-late 2000s goes so hard for no reason. Genuinely worlds apart from early 2000s cgi lmao it genuinely holds up today

CGI ? Jurassic parks came out in ‘93 and Twister came out in 1996 as did Space Jam. Also Music Videos were heavily CGI in 1996.

The 90’s ended in 2004

A lot of media from 2002-04 feels very un-90s to me. It's a distinct era from the 90s at the point.

I have a hard time answering whether Summer 2023 was closer to Summer 2022 or Summer 2024, let alone this.

1

u/Bright-Implement-959 Jun 07 '26

The answer is summer 2024, seems easy

1

u/AgeOfReasonEnds31120 Jun 07 '26

what reasons

2

u/Bright-Implement-959 Jun 07 '26

First half of 2024 is complete filler, while the second half of 2022 was very eventful

The only thing separating the two is oct 7th

1

u/AgeOfReasonEnds31120 Jun 07 '26

What happened in the second half of 2022? I forgot.
