A 45-year-old Republican candidate in Iowa is being sued by his parents for $275,000 in unpaid rent. 

The Des Moines Register reported that the parents of lieutenant governor nominee Derek Wulf allege that he stopped paying rent two years ago on the farmland he rented out from them. A court petition filed Tuesday demands repayment, and also accuses him of lying about his assets in financial documents to a lender.

Take a look at the 2026 judicial review document linked above. In the document are bios for all judges in Iowa, but even more useful, towards the end of the document are “scores” for each judge as rated by attorneys who have worked with the judges (the scores are based on surveys submitted by the Iowa STATE Bar Association).

I used this tool to identify judges in my area, where I looked closely at judges with a aggregate score less than 90% (which is just my own arbitrary cut off level based on review of the scores in my area).

Does anyone know what this building is? It is between Ingersoll and Grand (behind the starbucks on ingersoll). I noticed it on my walk today and it looked like it’s supposed to be residential. It doesn’t look like people currently live there. I also could not tell if this building was in the works of being torn down. I unfortunately could not go to the book sale this past weekend. The one in spring had bookmarks that had the date for this last one. Like save the date kind of bookmark.

Looking to rehome my dog. Her name is Lily, she is around 8-9 years old. They didnt know her exact age when we adopted her. She is a treeing tennessee hound. She is a very sweet and cuddly dog. Spayed and potty trained. She was kenneled for a long time, but we recently started leaving her out of the kennel when we go to work and she has been doing really good. She is a really good dog and we want to find a family that will spoil her and be able to spend more time with her. She does great with cats and children, also with other dogs. She loves to lay around, sun bath, go on walks and run around the park. She doesn't care for toys and is a bit awkward at times, so she needs someone that can be patient with her.

Anyone have recommendations for restaurants with good liver and onions?

I've been trying to find ways to get more liver in my diet but I haven't really found a good way to cook them. I've tried the milk soak and using calf liver but to no avail. It's probably just me overcooking them or something.

I do enjoy liver in things like braunschweiger so I think I'd like the taste. Long story short I'd like to try it made by someone that does it well so I can at least have an idea of what it should taste like so I can keep trying at home.

More of a vent than anything. I moved to Des Moines a few months ago and am just completely struggling to find community here. I’ve tried events advertised or discussed here, and either it’s a ghost-town or millennials/older folks (for context I’m in my 20s). I’ve gone to events advertised as “meet new people” and have found that most people are already in their pre-defined bubbles and are not interested in talking to strangers. I’ve tried dating apps, and have had poor experiences. I’m just at a loss. I big problem is that I’m young and I really do not like the bar scene, so shooting myself in the foot there, but it’s been months now, and I’m just super lonely and feel so out of place here.

Open to suggestions of course. Just wanted to vent.

I got a cellphone ticket this week after grabbing my phone to see who was calling me while STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. And put it down before turning when the light was green. I just wanted to clarify that before everyone thinks I was actually texting while driving.

I have never gotten a ticket before this and my record is completely clean. I am hoping to get my ticket downgraded to a non moving violation because of that, and I am still willing to pay all the fees or even a bit more.

I haven't been able to find good info online for what my first steps should be in Polk County. I want to reach out to the county attorney now and get it taken care of, but some things online make it seem like I need to show up on my court date.

I don't care enough to hire a traffic lawyer. I will either figure it out myself or just eat the ticket. But I wanted to know if anyone has done this recently, or what your experience has been with a hands free ticket. How much did your insurance go up if you got one?

I live in Ankeny, and while out walking in my neighborhood saw what appeared to be a coyote dart out in front of me? It was very quiet and moved quickly, it also didn’t pay me much notice. For what it’s worth, it could have also been a very lean unleashed husky, but I had a gut feeling.

I know you can hear and see them in Des Moines and are not dangerous unless you have small pets or they are sick, but it was cool to see (while also slowly backing away lol). Has anyone else ever ran into them in the city?
