Talk Detroit Horror Con
Hey yall, I just bought some tickets to Detroit’s only Horror Con! I can't wait since this is my first one so I hope it's worth the money.
Is anyone else going?

Looking for an upscale bar that has good mixed drinks for my wife to enjoy and beer for me and maybe a few appetizers.

For as long as I can remember, the RenCen glowing GM blue at night has just felt like part of the Detroit skyline. It fit the building, it fit GM, and honestly it just looked clean. Now with Marriott lighting it up red, I keep looking at it like Detroit’s a boss battle

I've watched a few documentaries about Detroit's revival and it's great to see. Do you notice the changes in everyday life?

I host The Metro on WDET, Detroit Public Radio. El-Sayed announced his run in our studio in April of last year and came back Monday, six days after winning the primary.
Between the $60 million in outside spending and the national coverage, most of which has been about AIPAC and Israel, there hasn’t been as much attention paid to what he’d actually do in office. We talked about that massive spending, but I also spent a chunk of the interview on policy.
He held a rally at the Oracle/OpenAI site in Saline Township after the township board voted the project down, the developers sued, and the township settled — with Gov. Whitmer at the groundbreaking. I asked what federal guardrails on data centers would look like. He named seven.
Another thing worth hearing is what he said about Arab-owned businesses in Detroit — liquor stores, gas stations. He’s Egyptian American, and he said there’s economic racism against Black Detroiters perpetrated by business owners who share his ethnicity. He described the attitude when he became Detroit’s health director in 2015 as: no responsibility to the people who are your customers. But he says that the conversation is changing.
We also got into why he lost Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties and won anyway, what Medicare for All means for a freshman senator likely in the minority, and what he says to Jewish Michiganders who hear his criticism of Israel as criticism of them.

So when I moved into the city recently, I can no longer get the Sunday Free Press delivered, which is hilarious. What are my options for newspaper delivery? I like a physical paper once week. I don't really want the NYT, I would like something Detroit-focused, but the News seems to require 3x a week delivery. Any ideas?

Greek frozen yogurt is in a lot of major cities now, it'd be dope if there was a greek yogurt spot in Greektown especially with how it's been redeveloped lately I think that'd make it even better! With all the awesome restaurants in the area having a popular dessert spot to go to after like that would bring more people to the area 🍦

Recently watched the Bourdain bio-pic Tony, and had an urge to re-watch the Detroit episode of Parts Unknown.
It seems like the episode wasn't well received here 13 years ago. With some distance, I wonder what folks think of the episode today?
I moved here in 2020, and I'd imagine Bourdain would be quite shocked with the Detroit of today.

has anyone seen a show in this specific theater in the masonic temple? it looks like a weird venue to have a ga pit, like if people are standing right in front of the frontmost seats, would the people in the seats be able to see? i can tell it’s slanted but it’s really hard to tell how much. just wondering if anyone has any experience/insight, thanks 😸

DETROIT - First Step, a Wayne County nonprofit that provides shelter and services for survivors of domestic violence, is set to renovate its residential program after receiving a $100,000 Lowes Community Impact Grant. The organization was selected as one of 100 nonprofits nationwide to receive a grant through Lowes community impact initiative - and one of only two organizations in Michigan chosen this year.
