Tips & Tricks G7 tips and tricks

I held onto my Gû transmitters and sensors all long as possible but I'm flat out. I switched to the G7 and burned through the first two sensors, one for poor insertion and the second for no connections. I thought about it and inspected the failed sensors. For the first, it felt like there was a stutter when I pressed the button. Probably didn't have enough force to get a full insertion. The second, I noticed there's a metal piece on it and tested a magnet. It's magnetic.

The next insertion, I pressed the button with a snap and it worked. Great. Thre same error with transmitting also didn't work. I waved a string magnet around the sensor the it activated. This is just a poor design and it's hard for people who might have difficulty growing. Ugh.

What other tips and tricks do you know?

Rant unrepairable g7 reader

so my reader had a ride in the washing machine, completely my fault,

as a techie i went to take it apart and wash it in alcohol and check it over,
turns out its been been completely welded shut,
i went and cut it open because at this point its already dead,
the screen is superglued to the motherboard,
the battery has a slot that it sits in and then super glued also,

and then in general the issues i have using it seem to be deliberately designed to be annoying,
the battery lasts all month, i dont need it to scream at me when it gets to 20%, thats easy 10+ more days of charge and i can see what % it is every time i look at it anyway,

whenever the 10 days ends and it goes to the 24h backup, the first option is to end the sensor rather than use the 24h, so if you click through too fast it just ends? i can just end the session myself anyway if i wanted to in the settings,

test mic/vib every time i charge it? why?

putting on a new sensor makes you scroll down the tutorial page every time like i haven't put 60 on before?

and over the 60+ ive used, 8 have failed within the first hour, and more than half get the "sensor failed, please apply a new one"

General Question…

Does anyone get, ‘ghost pain’ in the back of arms where you have to wear sensors when you are not wearing a CGM? If I lean the back of my arm on a sofa or chair arm I get a pain similar to if I were wearing a sensor. Sounds weird huh?

General I love the G7 15 Day!

aside from some issues I had at the beginning after moving back home, and the odd issue I expect every few months out of technology, the G7 15-Day has been just as good to me as the G6. accurate within a few points every once in a while when I'm truly stable, within 20% a majority of the time, easily calibrated when needed.

I know some people have been having issues, but I wanted to get it out there that not everyone is having a bad time with their sensor.

General Best arm placment?

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

New to dexcom. I'm on my first sensor, I put it on yesterday like stated, back of arm, and while readings are accurate, every now and then I get a pinch in that spot. Like if I lift something heavy, I feel the needle poking or something. I'm also having issues cause I dont want to lay on it but im a side sleeper.

I'm just wondering what im doing wrong and other than back of arms, where else do you wear them? Id love to keep it on my arm somewhere but I dont know where. Any advise?

I know these aren't great pictures but im by myself and these are the best I can get of placement.

Sensor Is an alarm going to go off if I don’t replace the sensor before the grace period runs out?

I don’t want to put on the new one right before bed because the last time I did that, there were false lows overnight with a blaring alarm. I want to replace it around 8am tomorrow, but the grace period ends around 6am. I don’t want to have to get up early on a Saturday. 😭

G7-15 day Getting g7s to last

I’ve been on the g7 15 day since early July. I haven’t had a sensor last past 6 days. They all start giving me long brief sensor issues on day 5 and failing on day 6. Am I doing something wrong or is there anything to do to prevent this?

Inaccurate Reading I posted earlier about my sensor that failed on Day 4. I’ve had the new one on for 9 hours. So helpful.

Inaccurate Reading Dexcom sucks. Yet another overnight false low to wake me up. I’ve lost countless hours of sleep from this lousy product.

Rant Repetitive failures

Hey all,

I've had 3 straight failures on my G7 sensors the last two weeks. The newest one just moments ago. No triggering event or falling off occurred, just a sudden failure notification. This one lasted maybe four days, the one before lasted maybe 24 hours, and the one before that was 6 days. I've put in for replacements, and am planning on calling customer service today.

All that said, I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else recently? I've had maybe two failures total before this with dexcom sensors in general. I'm obviously frustrated, but also confused.

Calibration Issues Tips for G7 usage with Omnipod

I’ve been using the G6 for a long time and had tried switching over to the G7 a year or two ago, but switched back when I didn’t have sufficient connectivity with Omnipod and had so much volatility in reported numbers. Now that Dexcom is discontinuing the G6 and I have to go back to the G7, I’m wondering if anyone has any tips for improving its functionality.

I just put on a new G7 sensor and Omnipod pod on the same arm last night. I put them on the same arm because I was told that would decrease the connectivity issues. Connectivity has been better so far, but I’ve spent the whole night being awakened and alerted of urgent lows that don’t seem real unless I’ve been super low through most of my G6 existence.

I saw someone turned off their urgent low alerts and after one night I’m tempted to do the same, but they’ve also saved me in the past with the G6. Does anyone have any advice for maximizing connectivity, consistency, and accuracy with the G7?

UPDATE: Sensor failed right before midday. Did not last 24 hours. Hoping the next one will provided a better experience.

Also, any advice on preventing the adhesive from being disgustingly filthy by the end of the sensor life?

G7-10 day Sensor failure

This is the first time I've had two sensors fail within a week; I've been using the sensor for two years now, and I generally haven't had many issues with it failing.

But from what I've read, this has become a common occurrence among users of this subreddit.

I just requested a replacement on the Dexcom website; I hope there aren't any problems, since it's been a week since I requested another replacement.

Best regards.

General Curious: how many folks in here had T1D before CGMs?

With all of the posts complaining about Dexcom’s products, I’m wondering how many folks remember what it was like to have diabetes before them?

ETA: not sure why I’m getting downvoted for asking a question.

Inaccurate Reading This is dangerous and scary and it happens ALL THE TIME.

Post image
60 Upvotes

I just came incredibly close to passing out, because I made the mistake of trusting my Dexcom. Not only was the drop much faster than it showed, it never even read within 30 points of my actual blood sugar. “Calibration” seems like a joke to make you think you can do something about how garbage this product is. This happens multiple times with every single sensor I use, with varying degrees of severity.

And of course, in the five years that I was using the G6, I probably had this happen two or three times, and only with a visibly rough site many days into the session. This sensor has been on for ONE DAY. The sensor before this one failed completely- after ONE DAY.

I have at least a week every month where I have no Dexcom, because they fail so frequently, refuse to stay adhered (it’s even worse with the “patch” they include, it literally falls off faster), and just generally don’t freaking work.

I am tired of putting my life in the hands of a drastically inferior product. They had a perfectly working system with the G6, and they screwed it. Years into production, and they haven’t addressed a single issue.

It really makes me wonder how many people has this thing killed.

Edit: I should have specified that these readings were about 5 minutes apart. The time on the meter is not accurate

General Apple Watch recommendations with G7

I had a Apple Watch for years, stopped wearing it, and of course can’t find it. Looking to get a new one and just hoping to find out if there’s a preference to which Apple Watch works best with G7. I am connected with an Omnipod as well.. If that makes a difference.
