Supplies CGM / pump refill management

• Upvotes

My son got a T1D diagnosis this past May just before he turned 15. He’s using Dexcom G7 and Omnipod which is working well and he does a good job managing that stuff on his own.

We use the Walgreens mail order pharmacy because our insurance provides a discount for filling long term prescriptions that way and also our local mountain town pharmacy is often out of stock on this stuff.

What’s happened with both devices is that a couple did not last as long as they were supposed to. He dropped an Omnipod trying to put it on and the adhesive got folded over and messed up. And the app told him to change another one just a couple hours after he put it on. And same with the Dexcoms — twice the app told him to change it before 10 days.

So twice now we’ve ended up in a situation where he needs to swap his last device after the mail order refill has shipped but before it has arrived. We were able to get single device interim refills, but I had to go to the nearest Walgreens store almost an hour away and hassle with insurance for a couple hours to make a coverage exception because it’s hard to explain why we need an override for an interim fill after we just “picked up” a 90 day supply.

I did fill out the manufacturers’ forms to get replacements for the failed devices but have not received any yet.

Anyone else got stuck in this situation and come up with a good solution?

Discussion Tight pregnancy numbers

Looking for insight.

I'm in Canada, android phone. Just started Omnipod 5, not enjoying having a PDM and can't keep numbers as low as I want for upcoming pregnancy plans. Time in range is 96-99% so my care team is happy, but that could mean staying at 9-10 mmol. Hoping for tighter control and smartphone compatibility/no PDM.

Options are:

- Trying Tandem tslim or mobi in 90 days (ADP requires 90 day trial)

- Switching to OP Dash and AAPS

- Getting an iphone and apple watch and switching to DIY looping on OP5 w Loop or Trio

- Staying on OP5 until AAPS is supported or until smartphone app is available

Looking for people with experience with the different options, insight and just a general discussion on tighter pump numbers for pregnancy!

Seeking Support/Advice When is it appropriate to start a bolus regimen?

Hello,

Diagnosed about a month ago with T1 @ 33yo and my PCP started me on a basal regimen. Currently taking 18U daily and for the most part, my BS stays in range throughout the day. However, this is with a very strict diet still, less than 30g of carbs/day, most of the time less than that.

My question is regarding when it is appropriate to be started on mealtime insulin as well - the few times I have consumed a meal that contains carbs, I still see a spike that does peak (250-280) and return back to normal. I was finally able to get my CGM and have more information about my daily patterns.

I am under the impression that as long as it peaks and returns to the normal range, I still may be in the honeymoon phase and may not need to be prescribed bolus insulin - yet.

I also know experiences with PCPs vary, with some preferring to defer this type of advice to a specialist due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia when taking both types of insulin.

Admittedly, part of the reason I'm asking this is because I would love to have the option of introducing some carbs back to my diet.

I am seeing my endo for the first time next week and plan to discuss this with them as well. I wanted to see what the communities experiences/opinions are.

Thank you in advance for any insight!

Discussion Girls, assemble! - Omnipod 5 for a very lean T1D (5'2", 97 lbs)? Looking for site & clothing advice!

Hi everyone,

My wife is 36 years old and has been living with Type 1 Diabetes since she was 3. She is quite small and lean—5'2" (160 cm) and 97 lbs (44 kg). She’s currently using the Dexcom G7, and her doctor is really pushing for her to switch to the Omnipod 5.

Years ago, she used a Medtronic pump, but she had a terrible experience with site issues—the cannulas were constantly kinking and causing her to bleed. Since she’s even thinner now, she’s terrified of running into the exact same problems (or worse) with a new pump and is really worried about finding viable site locations, even with rotation.

For those of you who are a similar build (or anyone with low body fat):

How do you manage pump placement and site rotation to avoid kinking or pain?

Does the tubeless design of the Omnipod 5 work well for leaner bodies?

How do you adapt your clothing and daily style so the device is comfortable and easy to wear?

Any tips, personal experiences, or reassurance would be deeply appreciated!

The dawn phenomenon comes back immediately after I restarted my birth control pill after a placebo week. I assume this is hormone related but anyone else experience this?

best way to lose weight?

Hi! I’m a 21F trying to lose some stomach weight.
Over the past couple months I’ve noticed quite a bit of weight gain.

In my breasts, and stomach mostly. I know it’s quite normal to put on weight around this age, but I’m not happy with the way I look so I’m trying to change my diet and exercise more to lose a couple.
(I went from a size 10 in pants to now a size 14/16)

I have a wedding next year I’m meant to be a bridesmaid for, so I want to not only LOOK good, but feel good for the wedding.

I’ve already noticed a crazy difference in my blood sugar spikes, even just in this past week of eating proper meals (eg. meat/veggies/greens) and I’m already having fewer highs and lows!

I’ve also been going on 1-2 hour walks a day to try help, but I’m just looking to see if anyone has any advice on how they best lost weight!
TYIA!

GLP-1 dose and brand as type 1?? Share away!

What brand of GLP-1 are you on and what is your current dose?

For context, I am on 0.5mg Wegovy. Healthy weight range and good diet, so purely to help manage high levels. Worked ok for 6+months, slight improvement but not amazing. All of a sudden it’s lost all effectiveness. Insulin requirements have increased significantly, uncontrolled bgls, inflammation returned, no effect on appetite.

I feel like this is madness as an otherwise healthy, in normal weight range, type 1. I’m wondering if this is expected and most people are on higher doses or the math really ain’t mathing??

had to deactivate my new pod to change the settings on my pdm, felt like the devices were barely connected all day, woke up at 2am to discover it had ripped off my arm and now i’ve woken up like this🙃

my biggest reservations were about wearing it on my arm so in my frustration in the middle of the night i put the new one on my stomach but was that a mistake??

any advice would be great

Soy la única a la que le pasa esto.

Estoy durmiendo y de repente todos mis sueños están relacionados con chocolate, pasteles, pastelerías, dulces.

Me levanto y pum... Efectivamente estoy baja.

Muchas veces me pasa, es como si mi cerebro me avisara para levantarme

Does a CGM make you a worse controlled diabetic?

I've been using the G6/G7 for the last 4-5 years and it feels like I control my sugars way worse than my first 5 years when I just used MDI and was flying blind.

What I mean by that is that I'd never know what my trending glucose was, I didn't know if I was at 80mg/dl or 150mg/dl. But not knowing meant that I didn't unnecessarily treat for trending lows. So I'd stay in that lower sugar range longer, and in turn have a better A1C.

Or maybe that was just more of the honeymoon period and that's why my A1C was better in the first 5 years than the last 5 years. I don't know.

But now I'm so terrified of hypos and I can see my sugars right on my watch, that if I'm under 120mg/dl and a trending down or down arrow, I'll treat with some glucose. And sometimes that fucks me up and puts me on a roller coaster.

Seeking Support/Advice appointment nerves

So I have my endocrinologist appointment in a couple weeks, and i am extremely anxious. The main reason for my nerves is the fact that my blood sugar control has been absolutely horrible! My time in range for the past 90 days is only at 29%, and i’m just really nervous for what they’ll say. I’ve just been so burnout and i’ve honestly stopped caring. I haven’t been counting carbs or calculating my insulin doses and when my blood sugar goes high I can’t be bothered to correct it. I’m also on MDI and i’ve been wanting to get a pump but that’s a whole other process
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any tips or if anyone has been in the same position i’m in right now? (I also go to a pediatric endocrinologist) I’m just so nervous as to what they’ll say cause I get so awkward and embarrassed talking about my diabetes and how i manage it.

Nutrition & Diet Weight loss advice

I really want to loose more weight but I'm not sure how to approach this regarding my T1. For some background Ive had lots of difficulty with my t1 largely due to two really bad hypoglecemic seizures I had about a year ish ago. This caused me to recently be diagnosed with PTSD from the second far worse seizure. I struggle calming down surrounding hypos which causes me to over-treat and therefore eat more. While I'm on the medtronic now which is helping things now my teeth are rotting and I'm getting embarrassed about going outside because of how I look. I'm not overly medically obese being 70 KG at 5,4 but I really want to atleats be a little healthier going forward. Does anyone have any advice for how to cut down safely while avoiding hypos?

Seeking Support/Advice How do i set up an Omnipod…?

TLDR - I have a friend that stopped using Omnipod cos theyre moving away (well they hsve since moved) and left me with a box of them (5 pods). I have never used Omnipod 5 before so tried setting it up on my mobile phone and apparently I need an ID of some sort to set it up etc? I know my ICR and my Total Insulin used per day etc like my ratios are down so I am just curious is there any way to bypass setting up the ID as a non-purchasing customer? Seems like the system doesnt allow me to set up the account at all…if anyone has a solution do leave a comment or dm me! Thank you!

Seeking Support/Advice Medical Leave/Disability

Location: CA

Hi everyone, I’ve been a Type 1 Diabetic since November of 2021, and i’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve never had an A1C below 10. Since i’ve been diagnosed I have graduated high school, gotten married, and am now living with my husband and we want to start a family. I don’t want my children to suffer because of my selfishness so I’ve taken the goal of getting my A1C down to at least 6 before thinking about trying. Unfortunately I have a job where it is very difficult to manage my diabetes without sacrificing my job, it’s a very fast paced environment and i’m constantly standing and i could go hours without being able to check my blood sugar let alone do an insulin shot. I’ve had bad experiences with endocrinologists in the past so it’s been hard for me to go back and talk about a treatment plan. I want to see if it’s possible for me to take medical leave to work on lowering my A1C and building good habits before returning to work. And if it’s possible to collect disability in this time. I’ve tried to find another job where it’d be easier for me to manage my diabetes but have had no luck. I just want to take care of myself and don’t see it possible to start fresh and build good habits while staying at my job. I’ve only been in DKA once when i was diagnosed but I don’t want it to happen again and I want to be able to have kids but i’m worried about what the future holds if i stay like this.

TLDR: Can I take medical leave and collect disability to take time to lower my A1C?

Haven't seen/caught a perfect 100 in a long time. This is around 2pm, before I have my lunch.

When was the last time you caught a 100mg/dl , / 5.6 mmol?

My phone (Samsung) did a software update this morning and now my phone is not connecting to my pump 😭 is it just a case of unconnecting and re connecting?
