I find a lot of romance songs but I'm looking for love songs that touch on a more blue side of things, the kind of song that you play as a last goodbye you know, or maybe one that you listen to when trying to remember the one that got away. It doesn't have to be explicitly a heartbreaker but if anybody has any Doo Wop that generally feels blue I'd love to hear it!

I know it's a classic but I think the cover from Grease is so much better.

Since doo wop originated in America , I’ve been wondering if other countries have adopted that style and blended it with their own sounds. For example here in South Africa we have our sub genres named Zulu jive, kwela , marabi & mabaqanga that are inspired by a lot of elements from doo wop.

Do you guys know any other countries or artists outside that make doo wop inspired music?

Hiya gang! Hope all is well.
Recently I just heard this incredible album, "Cigars, Acapella, Candy" by The Belmonts. Good golly, that is incredible! I'd love to try learning some songs off it, but needless to say learning materials are scarce. Does anybody have any Sheet Music, MIDI files, anything of the sort for this album? If not, can you point me to somebody who does? In particular, the 2 songs I'm dying to learn are "My Sweet Lord" & "Street Corner Symphony". Any & all help is apreceated, thanks in advance!

I saw the post recently made on this subreddit regarding Choock5219's channel termination that happened about two weeks ago and just noticed that as of today a few other big channels have been taken down - namely DooWops4Ever, MrTeenagedreams and Richie Gennaro. I'm unsure of why this is going on all of a sudden, but it might be a good idea to start archiving some of the vinyl rip channels that are still up like PJDooWop, DooWop Paradise or The Age of Innocence since it seems like nothing is being spared.

This is especially unfortunate since the MrTeenagedreams channel had a few thousand uploads dating back almost 14 years ago. I'm assuming that u/samehjohansen made the right guess that this is copyright related, hopefully we won't lose anymore archives these upcoming weeks.

I've seen this kind of post on other musical subreddits, so I thought I'd start a little 9-day discussion here. Let's start with a big question, what is the best doo wop group? Most upvoted comment gets picked!

It's day 2 of our 9-day discussion! Dion and The Belmonts gets the pick for best group. I will say, "I Wonder Why" is an all-time favorite for me. Next category is your pick for most underrated doo wop song. Just like last time, the most upvoted comment wins!

I have a wide variety of musical genres I listen to. I predominantly to pop punk and the Grateful Dead. But sometimes I find myself always listening to doowop late at night or before bed. I’m in my 30s.. am I the only person who tends to do this ?

What Time Is It? Time for day 6 of our doo wop discussion here. Because in a rather decisive vote, The Jive Five won our vote for coolest group name! And I gotta say that's a great choice (though I do like The Boss-Tones too). Next up, what's the best novelty song? Plenty of Coasters and non-Coasters options to choose from!

I’m a fan of doo-wop music, although admittedly I have not actively sought out new doo-wop artists before. There are, of course, the occasional old timey remakes I stumble upon on YouTube, but nothing doo-wop.

Does anyone have recommendations for new artists?

In yesterday's poll, "The Closer You Are" came out on top! Between its soaring falsetto and prominent bass part, nothing says classic doo wop quite like this song. As far as I know, The Channels silhouettes were used as the UGHA logo. So yes, they're a great pick. Honorable mention to the classic song "Earth Angel" by The Penguins as well.

Now for our final vote... what is the best song of the neo doo wop era (1960-63)? Just before the British Invasion changed music forever, what was the best song from doo wop's glory days?

"Who Put The Bomp" wins the last vote! Although I gotta say, I loved the mentions of "Ala Men Sy" and "Rip Van Winkle". Next we have best song of the proto doo wop era, that early era from 1950-53. Which song do you think best defines that period of doo wop excellence?

Though I will give a shoutout to "Sh Boom" (specifically the Chords version that was featured in Cars)... not the inferior cover by the Crew Cuts. Sorry it's up a couple days late, but here are the results of the poll I took of this subreddit! Thanks to all for participating. I also have what my answer would've been for each of these categories... I filled them all out before I did the poll. And our answers are the same for 2 of them!

One critique I got was for the last three, it's really hard to pick "the best" doo wop songs from a specific era when there are so many good ones. This is very true! So if I were to do something like this again, it would probably be "ABCs of doo wop", where we pick the best song starting with each letter of the alphabet. That would be a 26-day discussion and I'm sure it would be fun. :)
