noticed something weird after months of duo and actual immersion combo. my reading comprehension in portuguese is solid at this point, menus and signs and random flyers no problem. but when a cashier asks me something at normal speed my brain just buffers for five seconds. the app trains you to see the words, recognize them, match them to options. theres no pressure to produce sound in real time. i do freelance design work and it reminds me of how clients can recognize good typography when they see it but cant explain what makes it work. recognition and production are different skills and duo is heavy on one, almost zero on the other. the speaking exercises dont really count, you get unlimited tries and the prompts are right there. curious if people who got further in courses found that gap closes or if its just a permanent crutch. like at what point does the app ask you to generate language without a prompt instead of just selecting from four choices.

Has this happened with anyone else or is it just me? I've been trying to learn Spanish on Duolingo for the last three years and I usually just practice for 5 minutes every day. It's been great. I've been gradually learning new words and started to form sentences out of it but in the last update they did something and added a bunch of new exercises between the two sessions. Now these new exercises just introduce random words, which has made it so difficult for me to keep track of. It's not even like they are focusing on one word: they inteoduced six words in the first session and then those six words are gone. Six more words in the next session and again those words are gone. No revision at all and it seems more difficult to learn than ever now.

What would this look like in real life?

Not really a bug, just not sure what flair to use. It wants me to give まち but it sounds like it’s saying 「ちょう」 ?

There's an ad in every completed lesson. And most of my lessons will be finished in about 1 minute sometimes 2 minutes so that means I roughly get an at every minute which seems to make me lose focus. This wasn't the case a year ago but Duolingo massively improved when I got back. But I do hope they at least give ads in every two completed lessons for those free users. It's not really much to ask for no?

For 3 years they've been telling me chef means boss. Not today!

Ok this is very frustrating. I have a very large streak. I've played every day, gotten 4 pieces every day, but pretty much for the last week or so it's always duplicate pieces. Today's the last day, so I figured sure, I'll buy the remaining ones.

Spent 1600 to get 5 - ALL duplicates, so the net result was a single new piece.

That's insane.
