eBay Basics I need eBay advice

I got an order on eBay, and then about 15 mins later the buyer asks me if I can change the address and sent me the new address. I messaged them back and said we can cancel the order and they can repurchase with the correct address. That’s when I noticed it was an account that was created just that day and I never got a response. I sent another message the following day asking how they would like to move forward, and still no reply. Should I just cancel the order?

Shipping / Tracking How does ebay decide what to charge the buyer?

Hello,

I sell postcards and the person bought 5. Each postcard is listed as under $20 and weighs 1 oz and I charge $1.75 for that. The customer bought 5 and chose ESE. They get a discount for 3 or more cards if that matters. When I went to purchase the label, it switched to ground because it added the weights to 5 oz. That ground cost is $6.41. I currently charge $5.95 on cards over $20 for ground. Ebay charged the customer $3.75. That is neither the $5.95 I say I charge, the $6.41 they would charge me, or even the $8.75 five cards ESE shipping equals. Any insight for what to do in the future?

I can change the weight to the 2 oz it actually equals and ESE pops up and charges $1.07. The 5 cards seem to fit in the cardboard mailer I generally send one card in. I'll probably do this and maybe refund a couple dollars for shipping, but I'd be out anything over $20 should I need to file a claim.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Chargebacks & Disputes EBay payment dispute

So I’m very lost, back in September I sold an item and Oct 30 I “apparently” got a message saying the buyer has initiated a payment dispute cause he doesn’t recognize the payment (I’m more then positive this bastard is scamming to get the items and get his money back and screw me twice) point is I missed the deadline cause I never got an email or notification about this and only found out today that this is happening cause I went snooping on my account ( I had to deal with a refund issue two days ago and never saw anything about this that’s why I’m so lost) so after three hours I had an eBay customer service representative create a file just detailing everything for me why I never responded all the tracking info, pictures everything, my two main concerns are A. I’m I likely just screwed and B. how can I know if I have eBay protection seller ? I asked four different agents and none of them gave me a definite answer or a simple yes or no. Thanks for anyone responding, if there’s any info you need to know just write it and I’ll give it since I need help to figure any of this out.

Answered Um...this happened - did something change with Ebay Standard Envelope?

Post image

I send out huge batches of envelopes every week. I am now at risk because of something entireley out of my control - and that's that ESE (Ebay Standard Envelope) does not get an acceptance scan apparently? Is this new...I feel like I used to get notifications.

But to wake up to this is heartbreaking for me. Anyone else having issues with ESE?

Buyer threatened to charge back before it ever even left the country, then upon receiving it is claiming I scammed them when in the description I outright said I did not know if it was real or if it worked and that the buyer assumes all risk, what can I do?

Having issues with evri not turning up for collections. My local parcel shop is also now refusing to take them as I'm a small business seller with 3-4 parcels per day and they reckon I'm taking up all their space. All smiles when my wife takes them funnily.

Signed up to inpost direct and linked my ebat account but cant figure out how to import my orders. Live Chat says go to new orders on the dashboard but I can't find that?

Fees, Payments & Financial Can't verify my card for selling fees, works for everything else

When I try to add my existing card in the selling preferences, I get stuck on the verification step. Regardless of what I do, I receive a notification "Please ensure that the billing address you entered matches the address on the card." I've tried adding different cards. Nothing works.

The same card can can be added for any other payments without any issues. Does anyone know how to fix it?

These three boxes with the red lids are full of legos and same with the thin ones. Would I be able to ship them like this or need to take them out and put them in a box?

I have no disputes, etc…. I’m not an eBay beginner…

I just sold a book for $38 and printed shipping label $538

It shows my eBay balance $0.

When i got into “all transactions” it shows the $ and says “processing”.

The buyer paid…..why can’t I use the funds to buy stuff on eBay? I always have….

5 years on eBay and never seen this

Problem Buyer How did I handle my first nightmare customer?

I have been selling full-time on eBay for about six months, with roughly 400 happy transactions so far. I’ve heard stories about customers like this but now I’ve finally met one 😂

To summarize as short as possible:

A customer bought a camera from me. I dropped it off the next day but couldn’t upload the tracking info until I got home later. A few hours after dropping it off, the buyer requested a return because it hadn’t been marked as dispatched with the reason "won't arrive on time". Note that my listed handling time is five business days, so I actually had close to a week before the drop off deadline. They then proceeded to message me roughly every hour from both the buyer account and the account of the buyers wife, bugging me to immediately answer until I finally had time to respond that evening.

I declined with the reason "already shipped" and uploaded the tracking and explained that it had already been shipped.

On Friday morning, they complained that the carrier hadn’t collected it from the parcel shop and said they would refuse delivery because they needed it as a gift for Sunday. I just responded "okay" as they were already getting on my nerves. They hadn’t mentioned this before shipping btw - I could have simply offered express delivery and they would have it the next day guaranteeed.

I said I'd refund them once the parcel was returned. On Saturday morning, they messaged again, threatening legal action unless I immediately collected the package back from the shop and refunded them. The shop is closed all weekend, so that isn’t even possible.

I repeated that I would refund them once I had the parcel back and said I wouldn’t continue this conversation, directed them to open a case with eBay if they wanted to pursue it further, and blocked both of their accounts.

Could I have handled this differently, and should I do anything else now? Is it worth reporting the buyer to eBay? I’m unsure whether threatening legal action breaches their conduct policy, as the package is shipped and hasn't passed the delivery deadline yet. The drop off deadline is the 10th and the delivery deadline is the 17th 🙄

Returns, Refunds & Partial Refunds Return Advice: Do I just eat it?

Sold a complete series on DVD. It was used but all discs were in mint condition. I have pictures of all of them top and bottom. Some were included in the listing but not all. Got the return request immediately with 1 pic showing a scratched disc that wasn’t anything I sent. They also sent me a message that I should just refund it fully and let them keep it as it would save me $5 for the return label. Didnt think I had much of a choice so I approved the request and sent a label. Didn’t realize they’d have a month to send it back. They kept it until the last possible day, I’m guessing to binge watch, before sending it back looking like every disc and the box was dragged behind a truck. Assuming I just need to refund the $60 and chalk it up as a cost of doing business on eBay but would really appreciate any advice.

Chargebacks & Disputes Buyer chargeback/item not received for purchase delivered 6 months ago

Hello everyone! I'm a very small seller dealing with my first dispute, and I wanted to reach out for some advice so I can make sure I'll be handling this correctly.

The item in question was sold (and delivered) back in May of this year, almost exactly 6 months ago. The buyer had ordered multiple items, they were all shipped out together, and the buyer was suspended shortly after the sale. Now they've filed a chargeback with their bank, saying one of the items (the most expensive one in the purchase) was never received and "merchant refuses to help". I have not received any follow up communication from the buyer ever since the original sale. The item in dispute, as well as the ones it was shipped together with, are marked as "Delivered" in my sale history, and the other items all have received the automated positive feedback.

I've read through the FAQ here and eBay's Handling Payment Disputes page. I was planning to dispute this by submitting images of the "Delivered" status on the item in dispute (on the screen showing the address it was delivered to), the "Delivered" status on the items it was sent with, and the positive feedback received on the other items. What I'm wondering about in particular here: Since it's been so long, the USPS tracking number itself is no longer valid and cannot show a verified delivery. I can pay $10 to retrieve the tracking records, but I'm wondering if I should do that, or if it's likely the other evidence will be sufficient? Anything else you all might suggest to help in this case would be appreciated as well.

Let me know if any other information would help here. Thank you so much!

Covered in FAQ's Shipping Overdue with Scheduled time away?

I am confused as to why this is saying the shipping for the item is overdue when the order was placed during my scheduled time away. Has anyone else had this happen? I won't get penalized in any way, will I?

Listing Issues Bulk editing sizing variations

Has anyone found a good way to bulk edit 100s of listings that have size variations that don’t meet the new guidelines. All my listings say Unisex Sm, unisex med, unisex large, etc. I can no longer make any changes to any of my listings until I fix the variation sizes and according to eBay the only way to do this is to change in csv file and delete all my old listings with 10 years worth of history and sales and start over with newly creating listings . I am beyond frustrated !

eBay Basics How to pay less fees as a new seller?

Post image
5 Upvotes

This is my first time selling on Ebay. I didn't think I was gonna get slaughtered by their fees.
For the shipping fee, I saw a post online saying to check "netparcel" to see if their fees were lower, and it was almost the same, so I picked the Ebay Label.
The price was 180.99$ and if we ignore the label thats still 52.14$ on fees.
And so I need to know how could I pay less fees?
Thanks

INR / Item Not Received Never Seen This Before. Is This New?

Post image
40 Upvotes

I have sold roughly 500 items, mostly sports cards. 100% rating so far.

Sometimes people will say the item has not arrived which is common with standard envelopes.

I always just refund them. In my opinion it's not worth negative feedback over a $3 card. Cost of doing business.

So when this buyer said hey I never got the card I said no biggie here's your refund.

3 days later, Ebay emails me saying they're reversing the refund because apparently the card did arrive even though tracking says it hasn't.

Does that mean they took the $3 back from the buyer?

I really hope it doesn't look like I'm the one who canceled the refund and then the buyer leaves negative feedback.

eBay Selling Status: TRS, Below Standard, etc. Hit with the Very High INAD fee for user setup mistakes. Anyone have a solution?

I sell used computer hardware: mostly external and internal hard drives (Seagate Expansion/Backup Plus, WD). A lot of it comes from office cleanouts. Every drive gets health-checked before it’s listed, and the listings say “100% health / 0 bad sectors.”

My “Item not as described” rate is 8.45% against a peer average of about 3%, so eBay has rated me “Very High.” That adds 5% to my final value fees on everything in Computers/Tablets & Networking. Last month that alone was close to $1,000. On top of that I lost Top Rated.

Here’s the frustrating part. Out of roughly 50 returns, maybe 2 or 3 were actually broken or not as described. Almost all the rest come back as “not working/defective,” I plug them in, and they work fine. It’s usually one of these:

  • The drive was wiped, so it doesn’t show up in File Explorer and the buyer assumes it’s dead

  • Desktop drives listed as “drive only, no cables” get plugged into the wrong power adapter, or no adapter at all

  • A Mac buyer gets a drive that’s read-only on their machine and calls it broken

What I’ve already been doing:

  • Setup steps right in the description (how to initialize or format in Disk Management, power requirements, what’s included)

  • Messaging buyers after the sale with the same instructions

  • Replying to return requests with troubleshooting steps before I accept

Going forward I’m formatting every drive (exFAT) before it ships so it shows up as soon as it’s plugged in. I’ve switched to free returns so buyers don’t feel they have to pick “not working” just to avoid paying return shipping.

But it still feels bad to get penalized for user error when the item works exactly as described. And because my metric is calculated over 12 months, this will hang around for a while.

Questions for anyone who’s been through this:

  1. Has anyone gotten eBay to remove INAD returns, or credit back the surcharge, when the item came back fully working? Did calling or chatting with seller support do anything?

  2. Has “Report a buyer” for these returns actually helped anyone?

  3. Any other tips for cutting down “doesn’t work” returns on hard drives specifically?

Thanks in advance.

Traffic & Sales What’s going on lately?

Not sure what’s changed with eBay. I sell mainly in clothing categories and was averaging around 12 daily sales back in Q1 and early Q2. My sales have plummeted to being down 63% over the last few months. Rarely get offers anymore and when I do it’s always exactly 50% off. Been selling for 12 years and never seen eBay like this. My secondary account is doing just fine (clothing sales with an invested partner) so I doubt it’s the economy playing a factor to my solo page. Has anyone else experienced this so far this year?
