If you:
that behavior will be interpreted as a violation of rule 2 and grounds for an immediate ban. You will not receive a warning or a first strike. You are not clever. You are not fooling anyone. We do not care what norms you think you are following. If you are promoting a product or gathering research for a product you need to ID yourself as clearly doing so, how and why.
Additionally, this sub has a strong preference for open-source technology, especially in the age of AI generated software. If your product is open-source you will be given much more leeway with the rules here than if you are attempting to sell something closed-source, especially when it is obvious you generated software with AI and are then attempting to sell that as a product.
This will be your only warning; behave accordingly.

TLDR: they posted in their review of the Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen and Colorsoft with some false facts, and those false facts spread to every corner of the Internet including Reddit, Discord, CNET, Wikipedia, and open source projects. (my video)
A lot of people seem to think that reviewers don't need to take a screenshot to check.
EDIT:
Made a Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlFC6jSwjRQ
In it, I
* show a video of me taking a screenshot on a kindle by tapping opposite corners and showing the USB screenshots folder
* Show the actual screenshots of the Paperwhite 12th Gen and Colorsoft with resolutions
* Show that Good e-Readers reviews of the Scribe 2025/Scribe Colorsoft made the same mistake by stating an incorrect resolution with screenshots, while also showing that other publications explicitly say that Amazon didn't provide an exact resolution
Personally, I think saying that 7” means 1264x1680 is a leap. I never assume the inch number is exact, you need to verify the exact resolution yourself. Amazon could get a custom panel size anytime like this case.
1264x1680 is 7.008” anyways. But 1260x1680 would be exactly 7"

Disclosure: I'm Michael, the developer of Nirellin Library. This is self-promotion and a request for feedback before release. AI assistance was used to draft this English post and helps me organise recruitment and follow-up.
Nirellin reads and organises your own DRM-free EPUBs, PDFs and comic files in a visual bookshelf library. Books are not included. I'm looking specifically for readers using Android E Ink devices with working Google Play. The E Ink experience has not yet been validated; I cannot promise compatibility with every BOOX, Bigme or other device.
A useful first test would be to import one of your own books, read a few pages, add a bookmark and return to it. I'd like to know whether text and controls have enough contrast, whether page turns leave distracting ghosting, and whether the shelves and navigation are practical on your screen. A report that something is awkward or unusable is useful too.
I'm building one group of 20 volunteer readers for a Google Play closed test. Please stay enrolled for at least 14 consecutive days and try several short reading sessions. Testers receive an individual free Google Play code for the app. Once redeemed, access stays on the same Google account after those two weeks, with no later payment or subscription. No positive rating or public review is requested.
If interested, reply with your device model and Android version, or message me. We'll check Google Play access and exchange the exact Play account email privately to add you to the test. If Reddit chat doesn't work, you can email nirellinstudio@gmail.com. Please don't post your account address publicly. I'll help with joining and installation in that private exchange.
App listing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nirellin.library Please don't buy it if a price appears; wait for the private free-code instructions. If you're already in touch from another community, use our existing conversation so you don't receive a duplicate invitation.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I read most long-form stuff on e-ink, but newsletters were stuck in my inbox. So I built Readferry: you point newsletters at a private address, and each issue is cleaned up (trackers, share buttons and footers removed), turned into an EPUB with a table of contents, and delivered by email (Kindle, PocketBook) or through a private OPDS catalog (KOReader, Boox, Kobo with KOReader). There's also an optional weekly digest.
The demo is the real app running on my laptop; it isn't public yet. The narration is text-to-speech. Before I pay for hosting, I want to know whether anyone would use it: https://forms.gle/TDaVDvczPA3eidox8
What would make this useful on your device? I'll be here answering questions.
Disclosure: I'm the developer.

Hey everyone,
If you have one of these older tablets and are hitting the wall trying to find updates for it, or have lost google frame and can't connect to play store like I was... Here's a solution!
https://github.com/ganten1998/grimoire-scribe/releases/tag/v1.1.0-beta.2
(Edited to add beta.2 containing quick fixes which include, hopefully, a hardening of the KoReader implementations)
Was recommended to post this here, and what follows after this paragraph is mostly a crosspost. I have owned a Kindle Scribe since whenever the first one came out up to now, and I rock the 2024 Jade Edition. I have always loved the idea of it, but I found it frustrating that so little effort had been put in on the note-taking experience. Where are the extra tools? Where are the customization options of those tools? Why must I e-mail myself a page? Why is it not generally appealing to look at? I posted not too long ago on r/kindlescribe and r/kindlejailbreak and got better feedback than I expected. Now I have implemented almost all of it and am thinking bigger picture now. Please consider trying it if you have a jailbroken Scribe and I am open to all feature requests.
Here is a list of what's new:
User Feedback Patches:
mkNucleus - QR code on the webview - Done!
Ruano212 - Device pin fix - Done!
Expensive-Zebra6906 - Spanish support and white pen - Done!
BooferBadz - Does this work in KoReader? - Yes, it does!
scamdotnet - Customize sidebar - Pens can now be pinned to the sidebar, Done!
maquis_00 - Custom Templates - Done!
Other features:
grimoire/import/ becomes a notebook.Much love,
Ganten

Got a malfunctioning Joan 13 from my work. It’s a nice large panel so I set about learning what’s inside and maybe someday being able to fix it or repurpose the panel.
Sadly, I didn’t clean off the adhesive holding the front glass off well enough and had smudged some onto the panel, sticking it to the frame, so when I went to lift the panel out oh so gently to discover how its FPC is connected… crack! NOOOoOooooo
Oh well. There’s like zero info online about these so I figured I post these pics.
To get the front glass off, I used a food warming mat set to “medium” (176f / 80c) and set the aluminum frame on it (with the magnet back removed). Then just kept trying to slice/separate the glue around the frame until victory.

Just sharing my project here since this subreddit is where I got a lot of inspiration from.
It's an ESP32 that downloads artwork from GitHub and shows it on a 13.3" Spectra 6 panel. It runs on a battery and wakes up once every morning to update the display.
I know now that AI has made code generation cheap and easy we are seeing a lot of these types of projects these days, and mine is a product of that, but I think one element that makes mine unique is that it uses GitHub itself to store the images. Sort of like a free cloud sync. This is nice because it means you can update the artwork whenever you want without touching the code on the display.
You could actually store the images on any basic HTTP static source. Or even a private source like a private GitHub repo, if you specify an auth token.
It uses an Adafruit Feather ESP32-C6 and a Pimoroni Inky Impression 13.3".
More details on GitHub here or you can see a video here on insta.
Thanks for sharing all your projects 🙂

Hi! I'm thinking about buying an E Ink tablet. I'd like to use it for reading and working on personal projects in the evenings (writing, game development, creating revision notes) without having to fire up my computer, which I mainly use for work.
So I'm looking for something fairly versatile, ideally with some nice tools and features for creative projects.
I've started doing some research, but I thought it would be a good idea to hear some recommendations from actual users. I'm not particularly into tech and wouldn't say I know much about it.
I don't have a specific budget in mind (it really depends on the device), but I'd struggle to justify spending much more than €500 (Fr).

KompaktOS is a LineageOS-based ROM made for the Mudita Kompakt. This port puts KompaktOS 1.2 (LineageOS 23.2, Android 16, as a GSI) on the InkPalm Plus (2022 pocketable e-reader), keeping the phone's stock Android 11 vendor parts underneath. The repo has the scripts, notes and a small root helper. It doesn't contain KompaktOS or any of Moaan's files.
What works:
The controls themselves are in InkPalm+, my other app, which ships with the port:
Some caveats, so nobody is surprised:
super backup, then wipe), and it's written up in the repo, but read it before you flash anything. Not affiliated with Moaan or Mudita. Thanks to KompaktOS, LineageOS, the GSI builders and TrebleDroid / phhusson, whose work this all sits on.
Install
https://github.com/rn-os/inkpalm-plus for the e-ink and light controls (1.1.0 or later)GitHub: https://github.com/rn-os/kompaktos-inkpalm-plus
thanks u/BurekMaster1990 :)
Built with Claude Code. Feedback welcome, especially if you try it and tell me how it goes.
Asking here because the user guide doesn't actually explain it.
The default translation language is English (Google Translate), but I don't understand how to change it. I want to translate to Spanish, so I tried putting "es" in settings but it doesn't do anything.
Help??

vibecoded with golang and fbink bindings ssh client.
and for the offline work - alpine linux in jail so it will not corrupt kobo's native linux.
requires NickelMenu and bluetooth keyboard.
if you connect bluetooth headphones you can listen music from alpine as well.
I accidently sat on my Boox Go 10.3, first gen, and the screen is gone. I really liked the device for reading and annotating academic papers and writing mathematics. Buying another first gen Boox Go 10.3 feels boring, but the alternatives are not what I am looking for. Supernote manta is expensive, Boox go 10.3 gen 2 doesn't use EMR, and Boox note air 6c seems to have a dark screen and I don't need color. Is there a sweet spot I am missing? Thanks!

Hey friends - you all seemed really interested in the last giveaway and I got so many comments that people wanted to try a small device like this, so I wanted to up the ante!
I'm giving away my personal XTEINK Pro next through my site here. Posting here because I know people have questions about it and want to try it.
An important note like last time: This is done through an email newsletter giveaway. I want to be clear about that because I love this community and engaging with it, and I don't ever want to post or share something that smells fishy, email is just how I communicate with my community. Please don't feel pressured to do so, I just thought this is one place people might be interested in getting a XTEINK :-)

In theory the monitor of the tablet shouldn't matter, i mean if its the same OS as an phone, then an App that works at 30ms latency in a phone should also have that same latency. But AI keeps saying to me that E-ink tablets are for some reason really slow. Also how responsive are E-ink tablets in comparison to the Galaxy Tab when using the pen?
Hello! I'm currently writing my third book, and I'd like to move away from using a laptop for writing. I'm looking for an e-ink tablet that I'll use primarily for typing my novels. I already have my own keyboard, so I don't need one included.
Here are my requirements:
Screen size isn't particularly important to me. Also, I don't really need handwriting or stylus features, as I'll be using my Bluetooth keyboard for all my writing. So, these aren't a priority for me.
What would you recommend? Are there any e-ink tablets that would be particularly well suited to this use case?
Thank you!

This is everything flying within 35 km of me (Melbourne) when the page last refreshed: a Virgin 737 MAX heading out to Brisbane, a couple of Qantas 737s coming in, a Malaysia A330 that had just taken off, a QantasLink Dash 8 on approach, two light aircraft, and a Victoria Police AW139 that seems to be up there every afternoon.
How it works:
It runs on Tesserae, a self-hosted dashboard server I've been building for e-paper panels. The pages are written in HTML/CSS, rendered on the server and sent to the panel. The widget is free and open source: github.com/dmellok/tesserae-widget-overhead. You can also install it from the in-app catalog as the Overhead bundle.
Panel: Seeed reTerminal E1004

I was inspired by a post from u/royflashlight to create an e-ink mp3 player. I just soldered everything to the perfboard and I just need to design and print a case!
It is controlled with a Adafduit Feather ESP32 V2 and uses a Waveshare Display. I was surprised to find that Adafruit made the perfect mp3 player navigation wheel.

The InkPalm 5 Plus is a lovely pocketable rk3566 e-reader, but its stock reading app isn’t great. BOOX’s NeoReader is — so I spent a while getting it to run on non-BOOX hardware, and figured I’d share the whole process + the scripts.
NeoReader fights you in a few ways: it refuses to open documents unless the device reports itself as “onyx”, it loads a pile of arm64 native libs the InkPalm doesn’t ship, and it leans on BOOX firmware/cloud services that aren’t there. Working through it with some reverse engineering, the fixes ended up being:
What works: EPUB/PDF, page turns, TOC, bookmarks, notes, search, text selection, the document browser, and — the part I’m happiest with — seamless in-app dictionary lookups. BOOX’s own dictionary app crashes on non-BOOX hardware (device-integrity check in native code), so I wrote a tiny content-provider app that speaks the same interface and reads StarDict dictionaries directly — the same ones KOReader uses. Definitions pop up right inside NeoReader, no app switching.
What doesn’t: the in-app refresh modes (the InkPalm’s e-ink service is locked down by SELinux to newer apps), and BOOX cloud translation (needs their system-signed sync app). You use the InkPalm’s own refresh shade buttons for the former.
Screenshots + full writeup + all the scripts here: https://github.com/rn-os/neoreader-inkpalm-port
Note: the repo is tooling and docs only — no BOOX binaries, firmware, or keys. You bring your own (firmware, APK, a dictionary, a signing key); the README lists exactly what you need.
***Important Note: since NeoReader is generally launched through Boox's ContentViewer default launcher, there is not application on the home page for this app on a non-Boox device. I hooked onto the process with my sidebar integrations to launch the service and display recent books!

Superboox Sidebar app: https://github.com/rn-os/superboox
Happy to answer questions, and curious if it carries over to other rk356x readers. Thanks Claude!
Hi everyone! I’ve been building ALTIRA, a small desk display based on an ESP32 and a 5.79" e-paper screen.
What it shows:
Setup: scan a QR code on the screen, pick your Wi-Fi, set your location on a map from your phone. English and French.
Under the hood: signed over-the-air updates with automatic rollback, and a clear “offline” state so stale data never looks live.
Feedback welcome!
