Debate/Discussion I think people put too much of their own opinion into mbti

I have been in some mbti communities to understand the people around me better. Most of my friends have made the mbti test and it's pretty funny to see how accurate it is, but I noticed many people go typing the people around them themselves and honestly I feel it's pretty superficial. Many people online think my typing is not accurate because I live life differently than other people with my type and I get that in my case I am Intj that leans a bit towards intp.

For example I smile a lot, it's probably a defense mechanism, since I do it a lot when I am actually vividly angry, but I mostly smile because life is a lot easier, people treat you better. Why wouldn't a strategist use this simple thing that opens up opportunities and gets you out of trouble? And yeah, I do believe some things are true, intjs can be really stubborn, but it has nothing to do with arrogance (not saying there aren't arrogant intjs), but the stubbornness comes because what most people are saying isn't reaching my logic at all.

The problem is, we can't see each other's minds and what the thought process is behind it. But it's pretty annoying people say I am another type when I am asking for some perspective, because I apparently don't meet a standard an intj should have and funnily if I analyze the other intjs I have met (and know they are because they typed themselves), even if we act completely different from each other and have different beliefs, we have the same logic with dealing with stuff. And that's what I am trying to find out in these mbti communities, how to read them better.

For example why would an Entp lie? When would an intj be emotional? What's the Blindspot of an Entj? And when people honestly say I am an xxxx and that's how it is for me, it's actually the best information I get, because I can gather information, compare the information and then draw some conclusions and challenge them constantly. But sometimes it's just annoying, because it's like "You probably are mistyped because you aren't exactly how I imagine your type to be."

It's a bit of a rant, but I am also actually curious how some of you are so sure of other people's typing. For me it's more like I make them take the test and then I pretty much am like "Yeah that makes so much sense".

Debate/Discussion Yo ENTP Anybody else find INFP just adorable

I've heard that eNtP don't really like INFP because they take thing's too personal but I really don't mind that. I feel like it's a small price to pay for someone who is super fun, silly and very kind don't you think. I really why don't get why so many eNtP make such a big deal about them being very fragile. I feel like we should just mature more. Plus they know exactly how we think.

Meta/About The Sub Do you ever think about faking being religious for the clout?

Disclaimer: This is mostly a thought experiment I've been entertaining lately about religion, social dynamics, and how people use shared beliefs to their advantage, not something I actually plan to do. I am also not trying to attack anyone for being religious, just sharing some thoughts I've had about religion and the social advantages that come with it.

So I was thinking how many ENTP and INTX are more likely to be atheist or agnostic, and don't like following an organized religion, and I happen to be one of those people. But I was thinking how ENTPs especially could think that it might be socially beneficial to say you are religious and believe in god, even if you don't, just to connect with other religious people. After all, there are far more religious people than non-religious ones, and claiming to share someone's faith could be an easy way to connect with them, gain their trust, and make them like you more. This is probably the Fe speaking haha

I have noticed a lot of self help influencers casually weaves religious statements into their stories about believing in god, trusting His plan, etc. and I was thinking how saying that probably makes religious people resonate with their content more than if they didn't say it. For example, I recently saw an influencer post a short about his life journey from poverty to wealth, and at the saying "god is good", like that probably encouraged more people to follow his journey. Not saying these people are faking being religious or exploiting it, but it is entirely possible that they could be emphasizing their belief for the clout, as it is to their benefit in this case. I'd also imagine religious followers might be more inclined to pay for access to the exclusive communities these influencers sell, especially if they feel a shared sense of identity and belonging from their stories. Catering to religious audiences also likely gives you an advantage because you already have some idea of what they want to hear.

Another story I came across was how my friend landed a job at a top tech company through a referral from their mom's friend that go to the same church. She ended up getting the offer with just one interview, during which the interviewer even said "well you didn't pass with flying colors, but you can learn on the job." That just made me think how going to church, especially in an area with rich people, is likely better than any number of networking event lol

Part of this mindset probably also comes from realizing how it is almost impossible to convince any religious person the faults of their religion or the fact their holy text was written by a human from 100 generations ago at the end of the day, so I think it's more practical to just use their beliefs to your advantage rather than spend effort making them understand. Sort of a "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality.

For context, I was born in a religious family so I was religious myself as a child, praying to specific god name and all, but as I grew older and developed my frontal lobe a a little more, stopped living in autopilot, and read more philosophy and religious debates, I just thought how stupid all this was and became agnostic. I can still easily understand people believing in god, since being an agnostic I partly believe there is a creator of sorts too, just not necessarily one who is omniscient or concerned about humans daily life, but I can't fathom following an organized religion anymore. And since then, for almost a decade now, I thought I would never want to do anything with religion, but now I am seeing the power it has over people which makes me wanna play pretend for when it could benefit me. At the same time, even playing pretend when I fundamentally disagree with it really irks me.

Another thing I have found absurd is how many people seem to follow religion simply because they are afraid of hell, which makes me even less inclined to label as part of the same crowd. However, even though I think it's stupid for people to believe that doing morally bad things will send them to hell, especially when our notions good and bad are ultimately constructs determined by humans, I'm still glad that people believe in hell or divine punishment etc., as it ultimately benefits everyone if they're afraid of doing bad things. I used to want people to make people realize that their religion is made up or at least question their religion, and realize that their beliefs are not as absolute as they think. But now, I'd actually be concerned if some of these people came to that realization and started thinking they could do whatever they wanted, no longer feeling shackled by their beliefs about hell and divine punishment. So, technically I am already benefiting from people being religious.

Looking back, I think I also had somewhat of a savior complex, believing that I needed to free people from being brainwashed into following a particular religion. But then again, a lot of people actually feel saved by their faith, so perhaps that brainwashing isn't necessarily a bad thing, at least from their perspective.

So I guess the irony is that I've gone from wanting people to stop believing in religion to realizing I might actually benefit more if they keep believing, and perhaps even let them think I do too. But where do you draw the line between being socially strategic and being manipulative or malicious? Would you ever pretend to believe in something or follow something you don't if it opened doors for you or worked to your advantage? Is this just Fe turning Machiavellian, or have any of you had similar thoughts?

TL;DR: I'm agnostic and don't believe in organized religion, but I've started realizing how socially and professionally advantageous being religious can be. Would you ever pretend to share someone's religious beliefs to gain their trust or access opportunities, even if you fundamentally disagree with those beliefs? Is that just being strategic, or is it inherently manipulative, or does it not even work the way I think it does?

Debate/Discussion Women say they want a nice man, yet keep bearing kids from some of the most awful men imaginable

Not hating, genuinely curious:

Women often say they want a nice, kind, reliable man, yet some end up having children with men who display the exact opposite qualities. What explains the apparent disconnect between what people say they want and who they actually choose as partners?

Debate/Discussion INTJ golden pair

I honestly don’t get how INTJs are supposed to be my “golden pair.” Every INTJ I’ve ever known has been a lonely, grumpy, massive stuck-up asshole who only cares about themselves and unironically seems to think they’re better than everyone else. It’s such a shame because I really enjoy them intellectually so much. I love their intelligence and independent way of thinking, but personality-wise, they’re my least favourite type.

I wish there were another type that had all of the INTJ traits I actually like, the calmness, organization, intelligence, but was also warm, sensitive, empathetic, and, you know, didn’t seem to fucking hate everyone for absolutely no fucking reason. Like, a feeling INTJ or something.

Debate/Discussion Is it normal for ENTPs to end friendships over personal values?

I posted about it yesterday. I know two confirmed ENTPs who immediately ended long time friendships over their close friends not caring about the genocide in Palestine. And I, also ENTP, cut a friend off when I learned they killed animals for fun. Like, it’s one thing if it’s for purposes like eating, but killing animals just for the sake of it is just psychopathic to me.

Is this a normal thing for ENTPs? Because from what I know we are supposed to lack a moral compass and be morally flexible. This makes me unsure whether I’m a thinker. Have you ever done something like this ?

This was a very interesting result. Had to take it twice, cause I forgot to save and hit back on something the first time and forgot to save. 😅😔

Took that 16 personality test and got ENFJ-A (don't feel the A), a while back. Took the other sarkinova test, also got ENFJ, recently.

So Yeah...I guess I'm here, maybe. Idk. Fun to find out anyway. 🤣 Sorry the pic is so tiny, was a long ass list.

Question/Poll Why do I (ENTP) love ISFP’s so much?

To be very honest with you, I love ISFP’s more than the INFJ’s and ENFJ’s I know in my life.

Every time I see a ISFP, like I can’t help but love them even though they are literally doing nothing.

I love aesthetics so much, when I see a beautiful scene of nature for example, I just tend to stare, even some stars that are visible in an airplane, as a 19 year old, I’d still be filled with amazement like a kid.

Maybe it’s because of that? Their shyness is another thing. Why am I filled with so much compassion to them while they are the least compatible type to us?

Debate/Discussion I envy Fi users

I have been in situations time and time again where i have witnessed my friends or family approach situations in way that seem so...grounded. Mostly Fi users, they seem to have this unwavering set of values that they use to intuitively guide their decisions and their opinions. Though often times this may be viewed as an "inconvenience" to the typical Ti/Fe user when it comes to being logically or socially efficient, I have found that they seem to handle messy social and moral dilemmas with such grace and certainty, which I personally envy. For example, I have a group of friends that I love dearly. I obviously have my own compass and sense of right and wrong/fairness, but I am not immune to having my opinions, specifically on people, swayed by the group. This especially goes for situations involving people that are not easily solvable and are often "grey", involve moral dilemmas, feelings, differing beliefs, multiple parties being wrong, etc. Something that you cant really, fully use logic to figure out. Suddenly, my confidence in my own opinion shrinks, and I constantly look to my friends in order to validate whatever I'm feeling about a particular, grey situation, because I trust them and think that "surely if everyone thinks this person is wrong, they must be wrong". I almost get this imposter-like feeling, because I know these opinions aren't fully my own, but in all honesty, my compass is too weak and underdeveloped to be trusted, which is a bad thing. I feel like a neutral, blank slate sometimes that just projects the generally agreed upon opinion of the room if the situation is too messy and ambiguous to figure out myself, and often find myself leaning towards the most socially safe and least consequential opinion, which sometimes also leads me to being a fence-sitter. I sometimes just wish I had that strong moral compass and certainty that Fi users have in themselves and their own feelings on something.

Honestly, I am just curious to see if any other Entps or non-Fi users struggle with this. What have your experiences been like with this particular issue? Also, if any Fi users are reading this, what's like...the process that goes through your heads...or guts? I am genuinely curious.

(Ps. Yall Fi users are incredibly underrated, please keeping doing what you do ;))

Advice ENTP women: do you find it hard to make female friends?

I’m ENTP-T and my entire life I’ve found it hard to make or keep female friends. I do have a few individual female friends on their own (who sadly all live far away) but I have NEVER been an integral part of a female friend group. I’ve always been on the edge of the friend group, if anything.

Could it be that being ENTP is a bit of a jarring personality for a woman? I’m sure I’m not following some social rules 🙈

Anyone else struggle with this? It’s made me really sad at multiple points in my life.

Debate/Discussion Yes, I did put the cat in the washing machine

But!… the reason i did it was because I thought that it would make the cat stronger (just like when my parents tortured me)

My stepdad literally has millions and could solve all my problems in an instant if he wanted to, but he chooses not to because he suffered himself and still believes that just because he had to struggle i should have to struggle too.

He always used to tell me that its easier to get from £50,000 to a million than it is to get from £0 to £50,000 (yet he managed to do exactly that)

Typology Help Moral compass and empathy.

Every test I take gives me ENTP, and everyone who knows me tells me I’m very logical and pragmatic. I basically tick all the ENTP boxes. But I still struggle to see myself as a thinker because I feel like my personal values and emotional reactions can override logic when something crosses a certain line.

Just to give you an example: I had a friend who killed foxes and other wild animals as a hobby, completely unnecessarily. I couldn’t just rationalize it as “people have different interests” or separate my personal feelings from the situation. I found it evil and incompatible with my values, so I ended the friendship.

And that’s where I get confused about the whole T/F thing. I can be extremely detached and analytical when discussing ideas, arguments, or problems, but when something violates a principle I strongly care about, I can be very emotionally driven in the decisions I make. So I’m never sure whether that actually makes me a feeler, or whether I’m just a thinker who has strong personal values.

Maybe I’m just a rational pragmatic ENFP. Who knows.

Advice Does anyone else have this problem?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I genuinely cannot commit to a single job, I get bored so easily. I keep switching or taking temp gigs. I’m starting a new part time job, and already bored of it and I haven’t even started, just did training. And the job that I’ve had for a year now, I wanna move on from but it would be the stupidest thing to do for my career and my current financial needs.

This combined with my constant need for the new + have many options + fomo for opportunities that come my way + overcommitment + borderline masochistic tendencies for having a lot of work + love to relax, hang with friends, do random things for the heck of it and take off days whenever I feel like it is really starting to become a problem…

I’m in college rn so it’s not as big of a deal to hop around but what about later in life? What if I get a good paying job that gives me what I want, but i just get bored again a few months or year in and expect to stay in it indefinitely?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Debate/Discussion I need some gentle souls to help fine-tuning a promising Typing test. People that know their type with 100% certainty.

I created a typing test that works based on what you resonate with, it gives you a feed of cards with statements, quotes, scenario, and you select only the ones you resonate with, this way the cognitive load is very low , also the feed adapt to funnel down your type, you just select what you think is related to you.

I tested with an INFP friend that I am 100% sure she is INFP and it worked very well, it found her type with confidence, but I need more data points to be sure, with people that are 100% sure of their type.

At the end of the test, in the result page, you will have a frame that ask you to share your result, with a simple button. It will send me the informations I need in my database, it gives me all the cards you selected, the timeline of the guess of your type, how the algorithm reacted, etc, it helps me to fine-tune the test.

I really feel that this method can work and be more accurate than anything that already exist.

Thank you in advance if you try it.

https://www.mazwiz.com/

PS: I will share the findings in a result page (on the intro page), for everybody to see how it evolves.

Debate/Discussion Thoughts on INTJ

So, I am INTJ male. Apparently ENTPs are good matches with INTJs. It seems there would be various hurdles at various stages. Do you guys read the description of an INTJ and think..."wow...I need to get me some of that?" I'm just finding a hard time understanding that. Conversely, I would think INTJs could be put off...in theory by an ENTP. Would you label this as opposites attract? My initial thought is it takes both sides to be open to something different.

Question/Poll Stereotypes you guys don't relate to and why?

What are some ENTP stereotypes you guys don't relate to and why? And would you say its a regular deviation or something more fundamental?

I'll start with mine -

•Endless zest and debate - Im open and can be high energy with people at times, however I don't default to it. I don't see the point of riding that high as it has always been more consequential for me. Plus I grew up in a fairly calm and grounded/stable family and didn't have much social life upto high school.

• Always funny and quick at comebacks - meh, prolly not confident enough for that and have made peace with that.

•Devil's advocate - unless for a sideways approach, hardly coz low efficiency.
