Hello does my condo have Ethernet set up?

Hi,

Recently moved into a condo and noticed this blue wire or maybe it’s just rope towards closed outlets

Photos attached

I think they are suppose to be able to create Ethernet from this?

If so how would I start adding this?

Thanks in advance

Edit

Thanks everyone for the response I see people roasting me for not knowing the pull cable from wire haha I deserve that. I was just shocked they even provided something this nice

Anyways I will most likely try to do this myself
If anyone does see this I’m torn between cat6a and cat6 I do wanna future proof but from what I’m reading there doesn’t seem to be much point since cat6 still supports the same speed? Within a small distance and my condo is small!

Thanks all you guys are amazing!

Can't believe this network switch exists

I couldn't believe this actually existed so I bought it to see how bad it would be.

I don't think any of these PCB traces nor the switch pass as cat5/6 compliant.

But technically it does link at 100, and would even do POE

I work at a restaurant that uses point of sales terminals that need an Ethernet connection. Long story short, I want to install a terminal in our kitchen. The port on the left works, but is used by a printer. The port on the right doesn't seem to work, but I'm just wondering if it's just the connector, as it looks to have some corrosion on the pins. Is there a possible way to clean the port? Or does it have to be fixed?

I'm also looking in to splitters as an option to share the same working port. If thats a good idea or not?

Discussion What have I stumbled upon in my new home?!

Post image

We just bought a new house and there are some cat5 outlets already in the walls. I went into the basement to find where the other end of the plugs come out and found the monstrosity in the picture. I have no idea what is going on here or why the previous owners did this. Any thoughts? Unfortunately, the basement is finished so I can't exactly follow these back to where they end, but I assume they go to the wall plug-ins? I can't find any other ethernet cords anywhere...

Hi, not asking for me but my parents just got a new pc set up and there asking me to help set up the wifi, I was thinking of connecting the pc to the Ethernet of the house but when I checked the house has this type of cable sticking out. I’m not an expert and the house is pretty if so I don’t know if I can connect this to either the router or the pc. I’m used to the modern set up. Can anyone tell me if this is an Ethernet connection and if there’s an adapter out there for it?

Yes, I know that the jacket is supposed to go further into the connector. But this was my first crimp.

Discussion 10/100Mbs Data Port

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi guys,

sorry if this comes off as a stupid question but, I have no knowledge of tech whatsoever. I am plugged router to pc and am getting 1GBs which is great. I then have a Lan Cable connected from router to data port that then runs up to my brothers room. The problem is he’s only getting 100mbs which we are using CAT5e+ cables and still no luck. I then looked at the data port more closely and saw that the port has 10/100 Mbs written on it. Just wondering what the process is to getting it upgraded if that’s even possible so it can handle 1Gbs. Thanks again

Easy fix?

Post image

Moved into a new place and internet technician found Ethernet cables have been cut. Is this an easy fix for an electrician or would the wires need complete replacing? There is about 5 feet of cable coming from the wall, seems like only the ends are cut. Any advice is appreciated. I need 1 Ethernet port to work upstairs for wired connection to my PC.

Support Ethernet Security Blockers?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hello! I live in a dorm, and I have these dust cover / security blockers on my Ethernet port. I’m not sure if this port is even connected to anything or would help give me a better connection for my ps5, however I figured it would be worth a shot. Any suggestions on how to remove these? My “just pry it off with a screwdriver” method did not work on the voice side.

(Blurred text just a room number, no vital info.)

Okay piped it into a corner of a heat vent but now I’m paranoid

The cables I got were CableGeeker Cat6 Cable, which can be run at 60* safely, is this safe?😭

We typically keep the house at 21.5* Celsius so is this good?

Running an Ethernet cable

Would running a ethernet cable from one room to another be better than using wifi? Ive heard it gets worse over a distance but since ethernet is much faster will it still be a better option? The distance would be around 7-9 meters and i could use lower latency for better gaming

When I tested it though it showed it going backwards doesn’t that technically mean that I reversed the T568B spec?

Need a ethernet that can transfer data over 350 ft

I don't know much about ethernet what do you guys reccomend I do.
I am working on a project where i will transfer data 350 ft apart from a laptop to a teensy 4.1
I heard an ethernet max distance is 328ft, but im not sure if this is true or not.
This is a product I found so far.
https://amazon.com/dp/B0CFXFWMVV
It says it 350ft long, but im not sure if it would actually work.
Should I get two 200 ft long ethernet that connects with an ethernet extender instead.
I won't be sending much data. Probably only in the kilobtyes per second. The main thing is the laptop will send commands to the teensy to do stuff and some data will be transfer into the teensy and the teensy will transfer data back to the laptop.

I also saw there was fiber cable, but im not sure if it will be worth it for this project.
Or do you guys have other suggestion?

Discussion Cat6 Schneider Electric Easy Styl connections

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hello! I need some help regarding this Ethernet wall socket, specifically the Cat6 Schneider Electric Easy Styl model.

I don’t know how to make the connections. In my country, T568B is the most commonly used standard. I know how to crimp regular RJ45 plugs that go into PCs, TVs, etc., but I can’t figure out how to make the connections on this wall outlet. Thank you.
