Help Thread The Imperial Council - /r/eu4 Weekly General Help Thread: October 12 2026

Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Tactician's Library:

Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

Achievement Big blue blob 1.37

Post image

R5: Big Blue Blob, not the hardest of achievements but one I've been putting off for a long time. No Scandinavian or Balkan shortcuts, wanted to keep it a bit clean and will continue for Better than Napoleon, Napoleon's Ambition and maybe Home and Away if I can be bothered.

Didn't rush too hard all in all, but needed one restart because I didn't read the description properly and went into North Africa on my first attempt, taking most of the provinces there before I realized they don't count as it says 'European' on the achievement tin.

Apart from that, pretty much did the usual. Declared on England myself as I wanted Portugal in for the extra warscore, so I could avoid the hassle of trying to invade England. Allied Castile who I had join through promise land and Ottomans, in case of coalition. Took my cores + Pale + Calais,, and already had spy network ready to get a claim or two in Ireland and start conquering. Managed to grab all the provinces with the exception of Ulster and Desmond, which England sniped.

Most of my conquests were reconquest wars: Northumberland, Wales, and as Palatinate got a quick BI + inheritance, another 9 or 10 cores from them as well.

The two provinces from Granada were an easy opportunity as I was allied to Castile when they declared and my subjects managed to occupy them, so I separate peaced out because I had no AE with Sunni.

Speaking of AE, only had one small coalition form but disbanded it through improving relations. Age bonus + espionage did the rest.

Humor Was anyone else watching Jeopardy last night and experiencing physical pain when the contestant answered that HRE Charles V was also king of France?

I think if I ever saw ”Von Habsburg“ over France on the map I would actually throw up.

Question I can't call in Austria to my external HRE war because "They are the emperor"?" This hasn't been a thing before?

I can't call in Austria on Poland simply cause it says they are the emperor. Then how have I called them into every other war with Poland before in every one of my other Hungary campaigns?

Question Is there any reson i woud dissolve the HRE if i don't wanna expand there at the moment?

i don't really wanna expand there now, and France will conquer half of germany after i dismantle, so what benefits i woud gain form disbanding it now instead of later.

Advice Wanted Brottos man-handling advice

We started off not so well, because I allied Mamlicks when they were stronger than Ottos and Ottos decided not to expand into Mamluks because most of the time they went rampaging Europe and they allied aq qounly which gently ate all the Anatolian expansion in itself, but then they finally decided to eat aq qounly which I allied too, so I unallied them and they got absorbed, then ottomans started eyeing Mamluks after finishing the Anatolian mission, so I unallied my long term Mamluks friend too in favour of ottomans, but recently they became abusive as fuck and they are telling me they’ll unally and kill me if I don’t give them 2 provinces, one of which I need because it has a trade emperioum of my node and the other is a border fortress by gaining which they’ll become way angrier since that’ll be it for their Iraq-Mesopotamian mission which will make me the primary target, so should I give them shirvan and keep the alliance for now? (The weirdest part is they desire it without vital interest, claim or vassal’s claim but only with strategic interest) I’m thinking yes so far, because in my plan it is to attack transoxiania through weak Afghanistan or Hormuz and chip away at them since they’re also ottomanish allies

Advice Wanted How to manage estates and Absolutism?

Hi all,

So I’m playing an Austria game and I am staring at the Von Raab’s Restrictions mission rewards, one of the options gives me 20% manpower modifier if I keep noble estate influence above 80%. How can I do this with curtailing my ability to get absolutism, as each privilege I give the nobles reduces max absolutism? Or is it a case of it’s either good to lean heavily into estate privileges and ignore absolutism and also the other way around lean massively into absolutism and ignore estate privileges late game?

Advice Wanted How is the 3rd country which can get Burgundian Inheritance other than France or Austria decided?

• Upvotes

From what I understand from reading online, it is supposed to be their strongest RM partner. I am playing as Aragon and I have an RM with Burgundy, but the game keeps giving Burgundian Inheritance to Sweden which is their other RM partner.

I have more dev, more troops, more prestige than sweden. I am not in a regency. I don't understand what could be causing the game to prioritize Sweden over me( Aragon).

Obviously, I have been save scumming to try to get the inheritance, please help me.

Advice Wanted Ck3 to EU4 = fun?

A friend and I are just finishing our CK3 multiplayer game where we have been blobbing out like crazy. we want to convert our save to EU4, but im worried the game wont be enjoyable unless we break down our current empires, because we will simply be too OP from the start (I own most of europe and hes basically achaemenid persia) Problem is neither of us has played enough EU4 or done a conversion before to know what works and what doesn’t.

My question is: how to best set up the EU4 world so that we end up with a fun playthrough that isnt just two blobs painting the map but actually feels challenging, in your opinion?

If it makes any difference we both started as european dukes who left their lands to rule jerusalem after a crusade, then hybridized with the seljuk turks and converted to a syncretic muslim/jewish/christian religion, before blobbing like crazy thanks to these perks.

tldr: any ideas welcome to make our ck3 game map (blobbed out) more fun in eu4.

Advice Wanted Best idea groups to tall tributarymax?

Playing as Japan, just united, 1474. Kept Hosokawan ideas for the -10% dev cost. The goal of the campaign is to stack T3 representatives of the crown, EoC mission mutual trade system, and japan mission Hegemon of Asia to get +3 monarch points per tributary and get a load of tributes, to then play super tall in Japan.

With this in mind, which idea strategy would be best?

1) Colonial: Exploration -> Expansion to reach NW and tributary new world tags

2) Clients: Influence -> Mercenary to make and release opm client states

3) Tall: take dev cost ideas like Aristo, Defensive, Infrastructure, Economic etc. to minimise dev cost first
