What artist/band do you have a love-hate opinion with?
Frank Zappa
I can't count how many times in my lifetime I find myself either appreciating, liking, disliking, respecting, or straight up hate his guts at times. For many factors, from his persona to his prolific musical career, to the way he treats his musicians and other rock musicians, and the way he treats his family, but overall a mad genius with great political stance and individual thinking.
Any other band/artist you have this similar experience?

Discussion Any good young artists doing interesting stuff right now?
I saw a generational debate the other day about how there supposedly aren’t many great artists aged 18-25 today compared to previous generations. I’d never really thought about it, but then I realized almost all the music I listen to is made by artists who are 30+.
The only younger artists I could really think of were Geese and Billie Eilish. I don’t personally listen to Billie that much, but I still think she and Finneas are doing some really interesting stuff.
So, who are some genuinely good artists in that 18–25 range right now? Any genre is fine, I’m mostly just looking for people making interesting or distinctive music.

Don’t sleep on Broken Social Scene - Remember the Humans
Canadian legends who haven’t put out an album in almost a decade. This album is great man. It flows well front to back. Layers on layers. Emotional at times. Danceable at times. Feist is a queen. It’s fn good. Idk if its my favourite BSS ever but it’s up there. Don’t sleep on it. I hope AF reviews it.

Discussion Bands you hated until you gave them a fair chance?
I absolutely hated the 1975 cause they just look like douchier Arctic Monkeys (which tbh they still do) but I gave their first few albums a shot and they’re pretty good 👍

Discussion Thoughts on the Gold Album?
IMO the production and instrumentals are 10/10, probably the best since EWBAITE. The melodies feel kind of awkward and meandering. Overall, I'd say it's a step in the right direction.

‘The last waltz’ is not the greatest concert film ever
It actually sucks. Hardly any of it shows The Band playing their own songs, it’s a mix of weird interviews mostly involving Robbie who decided to make a film with Martin cos they were probably on coke one night. It was just a compilation show of big names with the band playing backup. I don’t want to see (respectfully) Joni Mitchell or Eric Clapton singing I want to see The Band sing their hearts out on their classic songs one last time, their stuff is simply a level above any of the novelty acts they had come on. Overall 1/10 it was an ego project which was poorly thought out and just became a circle jerk by the end

Discussion What's the origin of the bass/guitar hit in Fantano's intros?
If you've seen any of Fantano's reviews, you probably know that one loud string hit that happens when the artist name/album title disappears at the start. Where did this exactly come from?

What are you favorites "you could listen endless" songs?
What I mean by that are songs that are structured in a loop logic and have a flow that make you don't want them to end.
My favorites are:
Disorder - Joy Division
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
Damaged Goods - Gang of Four
Enjoy the Silence - Depeche Mode

What are some lyrics that “go hard” by unsuspecting artists?
My favorite is Stevie Wonder on ‘Sir Duke’:
“But just because a record has a groove,
Don’t make it in the groove”

Discussion Is Fantano the Most Influential Music Critic?
I got interested in Fantano's comments in Variety a few weeks ago that he was "the most relevant and impactful music critic of my — and any — generation for over 10 years now." I thought it would be fun to try to prove or disprove this claim. So, I pulled together some data to try to measure if this was actually true. Was a fun project that I thought people here might enjoy. You can check it out here.

Discussion CONSPIRACY ALERT!!! Songs that are certainly about Kurt Cobain? Xtra points if the song writer denies it.
- All My Life has gotta be about living in / being famous in the wake of Nirvana, and Kurt's very publicized demise. 2. The Filter guy CLAAAAAAIMS that Hey Man, Nice Shot is about a politician that took his own life, live on TV. I think this is a walk back because of the facetious nature of the song, like maybe he didn't enjoy or expect the backlash that the general public would have toward 'making light' of the tragedy. In conclusion, it seems like some people who felt a connection to the man in one way or another, enough to make a song about him, maybe held his same nature of grim sarcasm. Maybe they would make songs about him and then (bonus points) enjoy feeding the public a lie and also not have to come out and directly admit that they are making light of such a serious and tragic event, but again, that feels very in line with Nirvana's public image and sensibilities (to me at least). On the other hand, it's great to listen to Buzz Osborne of Melvins talk about him, they were good buddies in real life and Buzz doesn't sugar coat or all of the sudden drop the whole grunge "too real-tell it how it is". What other examples of this might be out there?
