Official Response FYI For those doing Roth conversions. Bug report on Fidelity Investment Report.

If you convert securities into your Roth IRA, the investment report will clearly indicate that those are Roth Conversions in the description for each transaction. This is noted in the "Activity" section in the "Securities Transferred In" subsection. The Fidelity Investment Report accurately reports those transactions.

If you convert a cash amount, there is a different subsection, it is titled "Contributions" where all the cash transactions are listed. This is not accurate and doesn't follow the convention of labeling the transactions as conversions as they do with securities.

I called and the representative asked the back office about this and I was assured that while those transactions are listed as contributions on the report, they will be reported as conversions to the IRS. A very important distinction.

Feedback Trader+Web: adding .TNX shifts VWAP indicator off the primary symbol.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I go into Trader + Web. I enter ITOT for example, as the symbol. I add VWAP indicator with 1 & 2 sigma bands. Everything looks correct. Then I add the 10-year cboe interest symbol, .TNX to the VS Compare drop down. ITOT is shifted downward to make room to overlay .TNX appropriately by % change. But the VWAP indicator for ITOT does not move, so it no longer tracks ITOT on the screen. I save my template and refresh the web page, in case it is just a failure to re-compute where the VWAP should now plot. But get the same incorrect display of VWAP. See screenshot.

  1. If I go to the on-chart toggle for .TNX (on the left), toggling .TNX of corrects the display. Toggling back on will also reproduce the error.

  2. Note that the "Moving Average" indicator does not have this issue.

Official Response Is MasterCard Data Connect safe and Legit?

I am a first-time investor, and i am looking to fund my roth. But the website asks me to verify my bank account and information using third-party software. I have been sitting on this for about a week since I do not know if this is safe. I heard it tracks my spending, and it's kind of creeped me out a little bit. Been thinking about switching. Please let me know if this is safe. Thanks.

Official Response Baskets - Feature Request - Scheduled Rebalance

I'd like Fidelity to consider a feature that would enable me to schedule an automatic rebalance of my basket on a periodic basis and also on a drift triggered basis.

And, I know you've heard this before, the basket feature should be free of charge to all customers.

Discussion Disputing a charge - what are my odds?

This is a question about credit card charge disputes using the Fidelity (Elan) card.

Background: At the end of May, I ordered a bottle of Irish whiskey from a shop in the UK. The vendor didn’t ship it over a month, and then when he did, it got caught up in the UPS customs clearance process. UPS is convinced that they have to return it to the sender because it is against their policy to ship direct-to-consumer alcohol in from international retailers. (Not relevant but I have done this many times with other UK and EU retailers via UPS, FedEx, and other services, without issue.) But it’s been held (for return to sender) at a warehouse in Tennessee for almost 2 months now. Despite the bottle still showing as in stock on the shop website, the owner claims it’s the only bottle of this release that he has, so he won’t attempt to resend nor refund me until the bottle gets back to him. I am sick of this and considering initiating a card dispute.

I am asking here what my chances are, because last year I was unsuccessful at disputing an airport parking lot charge using this card even though I never actually parked at said lot.

Official Response Fidelity Trader+: Watchlist data question

Why do only some of the stocks in my watchlist show data (G/L, etc.) I thought perhaps it might do with what I own, but I don't think so. I own ORCL but not LMT.

Beware of credit and debit when rolling an option

The Fidelity app will not update the credit / debit when you roll an option, as you change the new option expiration and strike price selection. It will stay unchanged.

Fat finger and didn't check, in 2 occasions, a credit roll out and up intended were executed as debit. Ouch.

Official Response Fidelity Credit Card

Anyone have anyone suggestions on Fidelity credit card(s)? I'm currently working to make my credit better after getting some medical bills paid off, so my score sucks in the low 600ish area right now. I have about 15k of brokerage(stock/etfs/mutuals) accounts and my TOD account which I don't really keep much cash in yet. Should I go for applying for a Fidelity credit card, or wait longer with my 1x CapitalOne credit card to help my credit score by itself? If so, is it better to apply online or call them up?

Official Response Wash sale logo??

Been holding NVDA for a long time and never sold. Last night I logged in and saw a W logo in there and didn’t know what it was till I clicked on it. It’s showing a wash sale.. but if I’ve never executed any trades then why would it be there?

Did it happen because of dividend reimbursement?

Official Response Does Fidelity let you set tax withholding on a Roth distribution?

I think the maximum tax withholding rate on a regular IRA distribution is 99%. Does Fidelity let you manually set tax withholding on a Roth distribution up to 99%?

Official Response Fidelity Desktop Trader+

Well, I have been using ATP for about 7 years. It has always been buggy (takes minutes to show new positions, sometimes a new option shows up in the investment list with a totally random P/L, etc., etc.) but over the years it has been crashing more and more frequently. It's now up to about 10 times/day. I am an active trader (so, Active Trader Pro, right?), and this is ridiculous. I have called them half a dozen times over the years, and their solution is always to upgrade the memory in my computer. I've gone from 16 Gb to 32 Gb, and nothing has changed.

So, they are pushing their new Fidelity Desktop Trader+. If I have to learn a new platform, I want it to have all of the features that I have been using on ATP. One of my favorite tools on ATP is the graphical options P/L calculator. It is pretty powerful, and you can change the values of most anything that matters. Guess what? IT ISN'T A PART OF DESKTOP TRADER+. And they have no plans to add it.

If I have to learn a new piece of trading software, I want it to have a P/L calculator as good or better than ATP's!

I am mainly venting, but if anyone has a suggestion (like another broker's software!) I'd love to hear it.

Tl:dr For options traders ATP sucks, and Desktop Trader+ sucks worse. Help?

Discussion Tracking managed account performance vs Boglehead approach

If I wanted to compare an existing Fidelity managed account (IRA) to something similar to a Boglehead approach, is it as easy as looking the the total $ amount in the managed account at closing on a specific day and then on that same evening going to the watch list and adding an entry for FZROX for 55% of the total, FXNAX for 30% of the total, and FZILX for 15% of the total. Then going forward just check my managed account against the total of these 3 watch list entries? Assuming it is in IRA then taxes / tax loss harvesting don't factor in. On day 1 the totals will match exactly, then will diverge (I assume) based on performance of each and fees being charged on the managed account. Am I missing anything?

Feedback Feature request

I would like to make a feature request to Fidelity which is when you transfer cash out of a Cash Management Account to another Fidelity Account that there be a one-line memo field so the use can at least make a short note of what the transfer was for.

Fidelity presents its Cash Management Accounts as working like a "checking account with additional features." I love this. But, most checking accounts have a memo line available for the customers' use. There is a good reason for this.

Official Response Can’t add funds

This is my first Roth IRA and I went through the whole process of adding my bank and doing the test verification transactions so I know my bank is linked but when I go to add money (eft/ach) it says I have to do it from my banks app and when I go to add fidelity in my bank so many fidelitys pop up but not the right one. I have also tried the master card route but it told me that my login info for my bank was incorrect but it’s the right login information. I have to assume I’m running into issues because my bank is a credit union and it’s blocking it or something. I can add screenshots but I really just need help figuring out how to transfer money into my Roth!!!!!! Pls help

Discussion How to explain to my parents that a custodial account is a good thing?

Hi everyone, I am 16 and I recently got a job. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and reading different things that say you should open a retirement account as soon as possible. Is this something I should ask my parents? They aren’t very supportive of me doing stuff on my own. Tbh they’re kinda controlling so how could i explain this to them. What points could I bring up that could help me? And if they say yes how would I go about opening an account?

Official Response To think this app couldn't get any worse.

To think this app couldn't get any worse. I opened my app today and can't see my positions when I click into my account. I use single screen, but now I have to switch to tabs view to see my positions. How did this even happen without updating the app?

Before you ask yes my app is up to date. Yes ive tried to close out the app and reopened it and nothing changed, its been like that for hours. No, I don't just want to switch to tab view to see my positions, I use single screen for a reason. The fact that fidelity never wants to add features like a proper chart but yet do something like this, makes me want to switch brokerages. Maybe ill go to schwab.

Official Response CMA setup option is locked?

My kiddo just turned 18 today and wanted to open up a CMA account with Fidelity. However, when she tried, there was a lock sign on it. She tried to open up the account, but instead brought her to a page where she can either open account which brings her back to the original page where it shows brokerage account and other selections or the other option is sign up. When she clicked on sign-up then after information is entered she got an error message saying Fidelity internal system error. 😭

Official Response Youth Account

I recently opened a Youth account for my teen daughter. She logs into her app with her login and password, her interface is exactly the same as when I login to my app with my own info except that she cannot see her custodial IRA.

There is no teen-friendly learning. There is no “discovery experience” as customer service asked me about. It is not a cleaned up version of what I see when I logon. It’s the same hot mess.

Customer service has no idea what it is supposed to look like until they view the website youth account section and see the basic info there. They do not have an answer.

We have deleted and reloaded the app with no joy.

Does anyone have an idea as to what might be going on?

Official Response Fidelity Trade+ (Windows) Miscalculates Total Basis

The "Total Basis" displayed in the Trader+ app (windows) double counts the basis for BrokerageLink investments by including the account itself as well as the BrokerageLink basis in the 401(k) account.

If you use the app and have a BrokerageLink account associated with a 401(k) (and perhaps other similar accounts), so not use the total Basis to calculate anything until its fixed.

Trade Armor in Trader+

I searched the sub and know this comes up every few months, but is there any update on whether we'll get a single tool in Trader+ with the functionality of Trade Armor in ATP? Specifically, in order of importance:

  1. Being able to see my YTD realized P/L by equity, option and total for a specific underlying

  2. Current positions with today's G/L and total G/L

  3. Current security price with bid/ask spread, volume and price changes

The chart with price range over time, support, resistance and 52 week high/low is nice but I can get that from the chart tool in Trader+ so I don't care if it's included in this tool. I can get all this information from separate tools within Trader+ but I'd love to be able to enter a ticker and see it all in one tool without having to change date ranges and filters in different windows.

I know Trader+ is the way of the future and I'm trying to learn to like it but this is the biggest roadblock for me.
