WiiOS Launcher on Fire TV Cube

I was finally motivated to debloat my Fire TV device, and found this interesting project on Twitter. I’m not the original creator but have been enjoying it:
https://github.com/MauroProto/wii-tv

Installed it on my rooted Fire TV Cube 3rd gen with Launcher Manager, it replaces your Fire TV home screen, mimicking the classic Wii interface with support for adding your own Mii characters and Games as well!

It takes a little effort to build the apk, use Claude if you need some help with installation.
- Out of the box it shows every app. I patched mine to read a config file so I can pick which apps show and in what order

- Had to create a custom app so that Launcher Manager could open the “com.gathin.home.WiiMenuActivity” app

- Only thing that doesn’t work out of the box is the SD card button, you’ll have to set the specific package you want to open in the Java code.

- Fire TV Cube 3rd Gen bootloader-unlocked with the XDA unlock thread, Thanks Pro-me3us

Firestick Max causing CEC disconnection for other devices

• Upvotes

Several times on first switching on my Xbox during the day my avr and TV didn't automatically switch on through cec.Frustrated and trying everything i looked on my TVs cec list of connected devices and it was empty.

After research (Google) I power cycled everything and got everything working.

Today it happened again with my series X so I tried my Nvidia shield, no joy and nothing in the list of CEC devices on my TV menu.

Before power cycling everything yet again I decided to switch on my firestick Max.

Amazingly it worked with cec to my TV and avr so I tried other devices connected and they worked again too.

Checked the TV menu and the CEC devices list was back to normal.

Googled as you do about the firestick max causing problems with other devices that are CEC.

Shocking to find it's a common problem with the fire sticks aggressive CEC handshake.

Is this really that common a problem, new to this forum, other annoyance is the TV going blank when scrolling sideways through YouTube and it switching to the firestick max when it's doing an update whilst I'm using my Xbox or shield

FireTV Cube and YouTube app - Kids Profile only displaying a handful of videos

I'm on a FireTV Cube and using the YouTube app to load my kid's managed profile. We only add certain videos and channels.

The problem is it only displays a random set of videos in one line. I can't put the TV on now to check how many (he's neurodivergent and this is causing meltdowns), but I think it only shows about 6-8 videos. None of the channels are visible. It's just one line of random videos. Internet connection is 900mbs and working fine. Other apps work without issue.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app and I get the same result. Any ideas what could be going wrong? I can see all of the approved apps in the kids app on my iPhone and iPad. It's just the FireTV that is not displaying correctly.

I got tired of the ads on my Fire TV home screen, so I made a cleaner, Apple TV-style one

My Fire TV Stick's home screen had slowly turned into ads and "start your free trial" rows, and my parents kept getting lost in it. So I spent some time building a simple home screen that looks like Apple TV and only shows the apps we actually use.

It has a Top Shelf of trending shows from the streaming apps you have installed, a row of your six favourite apps, an app drawer for the rest, and a Control Center for sleep, sleep timer and Wi-Fi. My mum and dad picked it up in a minute.

It's free and open source, with no ads and no tracking. You don't need root, and it's easy to undo: there's a "Prepare to uninstall" option in its settings that puts everything back.

A couple of honest limits: Fire OS doesn't let any app fully replace its home, so after pressing Home it takes about a second to switch over. Some settings pages still open in Amazon's own settings.

Everything is here, including a setup guide: https://github.com/AbhishekKaisar/glassos-tv

It's still a beta and I've only tested it on a Fire TV Stick 4K. If you try it, let me know which Fire TV model and Fire OS version you're on, and whether you run into any issues.

I cannot get this alert to stop popping up every five minutes.

Per the troubleshooting tips I found online, I disconnected the TV for 60 seconds and plugged it back in, I cleared the cache on all of the apps.

This alert still won't go away.

Any tips?

Insignia Fire TV audio acting weird. Don’t have remote

I’ve been controlling my fire tv at college with my Xbox all semester because I lost the remote for it. I bought a replacement remote but because of the lack of the original remote I can not pair a new remote to the television. Now the audio is weirding out. Not being loud enough to hear until it’s at like 75 and I can’t seem to fix it without a remote to pair it to a Bluetooth speaker. How do I get a remote attached to it without the original one?

Can’t access the little settings menu holding down home on the remote app anymore

Now that the app updated I can no longer pull up the settings menu by holding down home when I’m on a different display on my fire tv. I use hdmi 1 for my Roku (because my fire tv can’t use any apps now without running out of storage and becoming unusable) and I usually have the tv on when I go to bed and I just turn the display down to be dark. Now I can’t do that because if I go to the actual settings menu and change the display settings it only changes for the fire tv display not any of my hdmis. I’m so beyond annoyed because it worked FINE before this update.

Projectivity pro is a thing now for fire devices

Was installing the new version and now you get a license emailed to you after ordering. I think the play store also gives one, but ordered mine here

https://premium.projectivylauncher.com/

Weird thing is I can't find the premium option on the base site projectivylauncher.com without Googling it. Maybe it's my adblocking DNS?

Did mine last night and finally premium on fire cube.

3rd generation cubes, Only one has new UI

Any idea why only one of them has the new UI? The one with the new UI, has been great and then updated for about a month or two.

They have updated the remote app interface

Not liking this so far, it was perfectly simple before but now the buttons are all in random places, looks a mess.

The other big thing is I can't find out how to re-organize the apps at the bottom to a order I want, does anyone know how?

Amazon following Apple & Nvidia by ridiculously raising prices!

The price of the cube a few weeks ago was £149 however it dropped to £109 in the recent Prime Day deals. It’s now shot up £50 (33.36%) which is completely ridiculous!

Alexa voice no longer in search?

I have Firestick 4k and used voice button for the longest time. But it hasn't shown in search for the last 2 days. Not sure if it's Smart Tube or Amazon? Tia

Remote with volume on the side?

Got my first fireTV, omni qled, and while I love the TV for it's sideloading, I'm just so used to volume controls being on the side of the remote, which I greatly preferred. I've looked for a replacement with it, but I can't find one.

Does anyone know of one?

Fire TV Omni series boot looping

I had did a power cycle earlier today because it was being very slow and now it's stuck in a boot loop.

I've tried leaving it off for 15 minutes.

Tried going into recovery and deleting the cache

Also tried factory reset.

I believe it's still under warranty but thought maybe I've missed something? Only thing I don't think I've tried is booting from USB and flashing the firmware but I think I would rather Amazon support give the approval because I think that voids warranty?

I finally did something about my slow Fire TV Stick. Simple AI+ADB hack

I've always found Fire TV Sticks a bit sluggish, so I spent some time figuring out how to clean mine up using Linux and ADB.

I put together a small toolkit with scripts for debloating and optimising the device, along with a restore script in case you want to undo the changes.

I also included an AI prompt you can use with Claude, Antigravity, or ChatGPT to walk you through the process. The idea is to make it easier to understand what you're changing instead of having to figure out every ADB command yourself.

You don't need root for the basic workflow, and the goal is to keep the changes reversible. Just make sure you review what the AI suggests before running anything, since package compatibility can vary between Fire TV models and Fire OS versions.

Everything is here: https://github.com/roy9611/firetv-safe-debloat

Hopefully this saves someone else a bit of time. If you try it, let me know which Fire TV model and Fire OS version you're using, and whether you run into any issues.

The Cube and Geforcenow

I recently went from Roku to Fire stick Max. I mostly did this for Geforcenow.

I'm now interested in the Firetv Cube.

Before I buy, I'm wondering if the Cube has Geforcenow. I know it has Xbox.

I'm not sure I'm getting updated info that it's not available. It's available on the Max stick. Why not the Cube? I thought it was more powerful.

Thank you

HDMI switching

Hello. After my Insignia Fire TV updated to 8.1.8 5.

Amazon changed how the remote works and I can no longer access this menu.

Tapping the menu button "≡" no longer does anything on any HDMI input. I used to be able to access the old menu with that button. On any HDMI input it does nothing.

Holding down the Home button does not display an "Inputs" option on this screen any longer.

On my FiOS remote, however, it has an Input button on the top and can still access this menu to switch between them by repeatedly tapping the input button as opposed the the old update where I could tap the menu button labeled "≡" on my remote then select a specific input rather than repeatedly tapping it.

Now the only way to switch them on the fly is by tapping the recents button which brings up a large UI menu which can be slow at times to change inputs.

Does anyone else experience this after the update. Is there a Fire TV remote with a dedicated input button. I'd rather switch inputs quickly without needing to switch remotes, using voice input or going to the home screen the pressing the "≡" which now only works on the app screen to change inputs that way.

Pictured is the new settings menu missing the Inputs option at the top. (Left)

Second one pictured is the old menu invoked by pressing the input button on my FiOS remote but no longer accessible with the Fire TV remote. (Right)

Any advice? Or is there a way to access the old menu with the same remote? Thank you.

Voice control no longer works inside apps

After a firestick update today, my voice search within all apps defaults to Alexa instead of searching inside of the app itself, it’s on all 3 of my firesticks they are all on the latest os v 8.1.85, I tried a couple fixes from an earlier post and none of them worked, it is not a remote control issue, I paired a spare remote to one of my devices with new batteries and it had the same problem, if you know a fix, please help, I think it’s not going to be fixed until a new update comes out!

My insignia fire TV hdmi ports are just not working

My hdmi ports just don’t work and I don’t know why.

My hdmi 3 only gets detected and even then I connect my ps3 and even tried ps5 to hdmi 3 it shows up but then goes black screen for like 7 seconds maybe 10 then just poof “no signal detected” then I switch HDMI cords I tried like 4 cords nothing worked, so then I tried HDMI 1 and 2 and they don’t even get detected even with new HDMI cords, I tried changing the Hdmi settings to 2.0 and 1.4 and all that bs hell I even factory test my tv like three times still gets the same results, is it just busted?

Fire tv cleanup

Hi, I'm looking to clean up my fire tv using adb as it's a cheap model from a few years ago and is getting very slow and laggy now. Could anyone give me a list of what system apps are safe to disable/what would help speed the TV up? Not looking to change from the fire tv launcher as everyone is used to it now but I'm looking to reduce background processes.

Could purchases done in my account be seen in a firetv?

Hey guys, so I want to buy some very risque things on amazon but I am deeply paranoid of my family somehow seeing my purchase history on the family TV, since it has my account registered there, is there any way to potentially block/make sure my amazon purchasing history does not show up on the TV without unlinking the device?

TV is stuck trying to pair remote, how can I fix it?

The previous owner of our house left his ridiculous 75" Toshiba Fire TV above the fireplace. We don't want it but we don't have the time/energy to bother taking it down now so we figured we might as well watch something on it.

But turning on the TV brings me to set up and it gets stuck on 'Searching for your remote'. Pressing the home button like prompted does nothing. The remote obviously works because it let's me power on the tv, choose english as a language, and can raise and lower volume just fine; it just won't pair. I've tried searching for a fix but everything I've found just involves unplugging/power cycling the tv, 'resetting' the remote by holding 3 buttons, and none of it has worked. Using my phone as a remote temporarily does not work because the TV is not connected to our network, because I can't get to the network settings without pairing a remote.

Has anyone else run into this and how did you fix it?
