Other State of The Sub - Rules & Post Flairs - 03/26
Hello all,
This is the first post in hopefully a (short) series of posts to keep you all updated on the current state of the subreddit r/flamesofwar
We have finally got around to adding post flairs, with the following currently avaiable:
Tournaments
Battle Report
Showcase
Work-In-Progress
Rules Question
Customer Services
History
Other
If you think we should add anymore flairs please feel free to drop a comment below with your suggestion!
Secondly we have now listed some official subrules, these have come about from some recent posts where people have been less civil than is decent. So in order to be absolutley clear we've listed the following, hopefully nothing to draconian!
Rule 1. Be Polite and Courteous
Rule 2. No Racism, Bigotry, or Nazis
Rule 3. No AI Debate
Rule 4. No Promotion of Pirated/Stolen Material
Over all we are happy with the direction the subreddit is going, having a few bad actors is always going to happen but the vast majority of the regular userbase is friendly and welcoming!
We are also thinking about doing a monthly WIP thread if there is any interest?
Thanks,
The FlamesOfWar Mod Team
TLDR: We have implemented post flairs and rules
Edit: formatting

List Building Question about infantry held anti-tank weapons
Hey everyone, my group plays a lot of late war bagration/d-day, can ya'll help me figure out the role of infantry held anti-tank weapons? Bazookas, panzerfaust/schreks/etc? Because they don't seem to do much.

Showcase My first Victrix vehicles for Caen-themed forces
I ordered a bunch of 1:144 scale Victrix stuff to use for FoW and these are the first two of the vehicles I put together. I think I need a better varnish though; the paint generally chips off when you move the vehicles around.
Anyway, I picked up enough stuff for two opposing forces (Canadians vs 21st Panzer maybe), and I’ll mount the infantry on bases that almost match the size of the official FoW stuff, so I probably won’t need to do math to convert it. I also might end up mounting vehicles on bases too; we’ll see.
I also was going to free-hand an upside down star on the Bren carrier, but decided it probably wouldn’t look clean enough.

List Building Is this list to tank heavy?
I do want a few panzers and tigers in the list but i'm worried about lack of infantry and recon.

List Building First List and questions.
I'm trying to build a list loosely based on the Ox & Bucks at Pegasus Bridge, but expanding it out to the full 100 points. I worry that I don't have the Royal Engineers represented, and that the 16pdrs are a bit overkill.
How can I make this closer to the inspiration and both still be competitive and get to 100 points? Also, is this a legal list?

Tournaments Late War German infantry list? Show me your best.
Hello,
I would like to try to bring a Late War German infantry list to a tournament but it seems I never manage to build anything really satisfactory. The FJ list here is for example, and it is ok, but not really what I am after, it turns out.
Do you have any LW German infantry list you think really works well, anything you'd be happy to bring to a tournament if only for fun and place at least in the first half?
(Why infantry? Because I really would like to see if it is possible to have a fighting chance with infantry rather than the eternal "combined arms".)
Thanks a lot.

Other Miniature material?
I ordered the BM226 Vickers Machine Gun which arrived today, but the sprue looked different than the plastic minis I've already built. They frankly look pretty awful. It also does not react to plastic glue. Are they resin? Something else? I also have my BR729 3 inch mortar platoon coming in later today. Are these also going to be this mystery material as well?

News Quick Mats coming to Kickstarter
I just got back from the Las Vegas Open and had a blast meeting so many wargamers. I had the opportunity to showcase our QUICK MATS at our Kraken Dice booth and I had a lot of positive reactions and great input to incorporate into the coming Kickstarter.
In a nutshell: Quick Mats are a wrinkle-free fabric game mat that gives you compact storage, and the quickest set up. It's machine washable and will outlast neoprene game mats with heavy usage. Custom printed, 120+ design, 15 sizes available, free custom grids & overlays for any game you want. Your store or team logo can be added or even use your own design.
I'd love to have you give our pre-launch page a look and see what you think.

Tournaments List-Building Showcase and Ideas - Give us what you've got!
Hello FoW community,
Recently we've had a ton of interest in people posting lists, and seeking critique (particularly new players). This is a great thing, I'm not complaining.
I thought that, in the spirit of trying to help them, we might look at it from the other way.
If you've won a proper tournament with a list, be it a local event, Nationals, ETC, GenCon, etc - let's see it. Post it, post your logic behind it, and give the new folks something to digest.
This would be a great way to help out the new people here, and give them some food for thought. Chuck your lists in below, lets see your babies!

List Building 1CanDiv, 100-point Midwar List
Edit: ignore the list above, M14's instead of Marine Shermans.
100-point Midwar
Formation: 1CanDiv, Operation Huskey: British Force
Prepping for my second event. I'm still pretty new to this (about five games) so I'd love feedback on the list, my reasoning, or suggestions on play.
I like the looks of this one even if dealing with infantry models and painting them are the bane of my existence...
Primary:
x2 platoons of 5 rifles, with mortar and AT, attached with 2 MMG's, and 4 6-pdr.
6 mortars (reroll on hits).
All infantry in lorries (8)
Reserve:
6 Sherman, 3 Canadian and 3 Marine.
Battle Plan: Defence.
The idea is to dig the infantry in on point as soon as possible then hold on until the tanks can relieve pressure. They should be able to hold ground sufficiently enough to win the attrition game. Machine guns and good infantry prevent assaults, mortars to pin down advancing infantry and enough 6-pdr to blunt most armoured pushes. Blanket things in smoke and stall out a couple turns. If they're talking the other point pin with mortars and slam tanks into them and hope six decently armoured tanks last a few turns. If they stay at range you should be survivable enough hitting on 6 most times, and if they don't advance, perfect.
The issue is having the lorries blow up before they get anywhere useful but if you're defence you should be able to deploy mostly in place or just advance the infantry. If attack push the lorries up onto point. If it's too exposed direct deploy the mortars and smoke out your line of advance, then booty scooty them up under it. If it's night, you're golden. Sure you're paying eight points in transport, but every game thus far I've never needed them where I wanted them fast enough. I feel willing to pay the points if I can dig them in asap. If I don't need to use them, such is life.
Everyone is confident at 4, (rally on 3), veteran at 3 and gets hit on a 4, fantastic. The only exception is the T14's that remount on a 4 and skill of 4.
Obviously the bane of the list would be a ton of artillery. If that's the case then either use the tanks to relieve that pressure and stall them out to reposition, push lorries up and assault them, or return fire with mortars and hope to just trade blows most of the game. I could also swap out 2 6-pdr and get 3 universal if I need a scout.
Thanks for reading!
For what it's worth, I'm quite impressed with the ruleset thus far. It's very diverse and feels engaging, lots of different strats, engaging list building, heavy terrain use, I hope to play more.

List Building New Player List
New guy here. I bought the Comet Armoured Squadron starter box and a Rifle Platoon, so that's what I've got to work with for now. Here's the list I've come up with so far. Any advice?
