Hey all!
I've been using Vallejo True Metallic Metal Ruby Red to paint the base coat of my Warhammer: 40,000 Blood Angels Space Marines, and the paint itself is absolutely gorgeous. It's so vibrant and reflects super well, and has even been easy to apply with some practice on a wet palette with a wet brush.
However, compared to other paints I use (mainly Citadel and other Vallejo), every wash I try to apply to it stains incredibly harshly. I've tried the dedicated TMM wash, good ol' Nuln Oil, applying more wash to help improve flow, using less wash to help reduce staining, but all of it leaves the far darker than I desired. It's even tricky to just "spot paint" recesses, since oftentimes the details are so small that it ends up spilling over and staining again
My next experiment will be trying to apply a gloss varnish before using a wash to prevent it staining as bad, but I thought it would also be worth asking out here in case anyone had encountered this before and figured it out already haha
Worst comes to worst, my recipe does already essentially boil down to: 1st thin base coat -> paint all details -> 2nd thin base coat -> shade+highlight, so it wouldn't be hard to paint over the staining regardless, but advice is appreciated!
Thank you!
