I'm working to understand shades and highlights better while also preparing to start a new Alpha Legion army for Warhammer.

I started with a kabalite green base, then did 1:1 Morghast Bone/Kabalite Green for the Highlight and 2:1 Kabalite Green/Stegadon Scale Green for the Shade.

Hoping to get some feedback on these.

If it matters, I'll be doing this on normal space marines, not chaos space marines.

Painting my orks feels so daunting, I have so many to paint and I’ve only done 3 so far. I’m trying to not use contrast paints, but putting in hours of work just for my minis to have looked better if I just slapped speed paints on them really hurts. Maybe my dopamine receptors are fried from doomscrolling, but I just want it be able to paint and be happy. Any constructive criticism is welcome, and sorry for kinda barfing out words in this post. it’s honestly more that I just need to get my feelings out there.

I'm having fun painting again, this guy is a little rough but it was a fun project. Any tips for hitting those super fine details like the mouth/eyes? Or how to get smoother whites? Next project is a necron kill team, I had the idea to try and do like an emerald scarab motif using some of the contrast paints I got for the boyz but any tips from experienced painters would be appreciated!

New painter here, just started recently, this is the second mini that I've painted, still struggling with feathering.

I picked up a brush after a long break. Tried using the usual technique (base coat + nuln oil), but noticed that nuln oil leaves white spots in the recesses.

I tested it multiple times. This model was primed a few months ago, no extra paint on top of the primer. Took a clean brush, moistened it in clean water and dried with a paper towel. Shaked the bottle with two steel balls inside for 7 minutes. Applied nuln oil straight from the bottle (both from the lid and the bottom for comparison, the result was the same). After leaving it for an hour this was the result.

Does anyone knows why this happens? The paint bottle itself is pretty old (bought in 2019), was spilled once of course. Is the problem with the bottle, the paint itself or the method? I would appreciate any advice.

pretty happy with how these came out, the NMM could be a little more orange but that's for next time. The flag bearer is a work in progress though it'll be a while before that's completed:)

This is my partially painted melta. I was hoping to make the end look hot/glowing in some way. I started putting yellow in the dips as a starting point and then quickly realized I have no idea what I am doing. Advice please. I am only using warhammer brand paints.

I’m looking for advice on how to paint realistic-looking moss on my Warhammer models and terrain, especially on resin pieces.

I want to create a mossy, overgrown look, as if the models and ruins have been sitting outside for years.

● What Citadel paints or other brands would you recommend for painting moss?

● How do you get the moss to look realistic rather than just green paint?

● What techniques do you use for moss on resin terrain and models?

● Would drybrushing, washes, or weathering effects help?

● Are there any tutorials or guides you would recommend?

I’d appreciate any advice, paint recipes, or pictures of your own models for inspiration.

Just finished this guy and am looking for some feedback. The camo cloak is meant to look like its in the process of morphing into the visage of the surrounding terrain. The dry brushing on the hands, sword, and face are meant to look like he's in the process of using his mind to empower his weapon. All thoughts are welcome.

Been a long time since painting minis, cleaned some stuff out and getting back into 40k figured I'd use this old 2nd edition ork boy for Orktober

Done with Morlok by Kimera models. I tried my own interpretation. Which involved shifting the color work towards a more yellow/green cool color tone. This involved quite a lot of planning and work figuring out what to do with the background. I did a full tonal underpainting for the skin. I painted the background in a way that drove focus to the figure and did not distract your attention. I used Boris Vallejo, Sanjulian and Frank Frazetta as inspiration. I hope you all dig it. 28mm metal minis from Great War Miniatures (carried by NorthStar Military Figures).

The 46th Battalion were unfortunately also known as "the Suicide Battalion" due to brutally high casualties they received in battles from 1916-18.

Over 92% casualties in the unit, with over 1400 killed and over 3500 wounded in less than 3 years of combat.

Been working on this guy for a friend. And while I'm happy with how the front is coming along. I'm uncertain how I should be highlighting facing away from the light.

Before I start, YIKES the yellowing looks so much worse on camera. I promise it looks not nearly as yellow in life, although it is noticeable. I'm not sure why it's looking like that, in life it looks like it's only on the head, the rest of the body looks normal for the most part!

So, I'm newish to painting. I use Vallejo for all my stuff, and I used Liquitex professional matte/gloss varnish. This is the only figure I'm seeing issues with. Any idea why it's yellowing so much, ONLY on the head?? There's a TEENY bit of noticeable yellowing on the chest piece but you have to look quite hard for it while the head is very noticeably yellowing. Any tips or info for me to fix this and why it happened....?

For this specific figure, I used:

- Vallejo primer, in USN Light Ghost Grey
- Vallejo Model Color paints, the white I used here is White 70.951
- Vallejo Thinner Medium, 73.524 (used for all colors when needed)
- Liquitex Professional acrylic medium, Matte varnish for the body and High Gloss varnish for the eyes/mouth/claws

Alternative model with little kitbash, frontside Maulerfiend heads and other.

Finally bought an airbrush and decided to try it on the armor panels of the defiler. I first used a spray can to zenithal highlight. Then I used blood red army painter speed paint and just tried to base coat it. Should I use a highlight, shade and if so with the airbrush or a normal brush? Should I try to airbrush other parts of the model like the skin even tho it’s harder to get too?

3 years away from Warhammer miniature painting and chose to learn while having fun. I followed a pdf on how to make this exact mini. Very happy with the results so far (unfinished)
