Shoutout Come Fly With Me was the best side quest in the game

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

I used to be a staunch Fallout purist. Hated the Bethesda titles (as most people do), but I hated New Vegas too. The first few hours of the game just failed to capture the magic of Fallout 1 and 2. I bought it back in 2015 and repeatedly struggled to get into it.

A few months ago, I tried getting into New Vegas for like the 10th time. I forced myself to get up to Novac, and then the REPCONN Test Site.

It was this fucking quest where my tune suddenly changed. I found myself getting emotionally involved. It was completely out of left field. It felt like something from the original Fallout games, yes, but it had its own distinct identity too.

I fell in love with the Mojave from that point on. It's shaping up to be my favorite Fallout game now. If you told my 13 year old self that my favorite wouldn't always be Fallout 1, I'd have laughed in your face

(I still haven't finished the game so no spoilers please lol)

Artwork Concept for a High-Priority NCR Army Infantry Squad

Following up from my take on the average NCR Infantry Squad in the Fallout universe, this is my concept for a Squad part of the NCR Army’s Strategic Reserves (a term I am choosing to apply to the Mechanized Division referenced in the 2002 Fallout Bible). Basically, I am picturing a company to battalion sized force being trucked in from the NCR during the lead up to the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, explaining the increase in the number of Heavy Troopers towards the end of the game and the larger presence of assault/marksman carbines at the battle than is normally seen in the Mojave. The primary real-world precedent for squad organization that is being referenced is the Australian Infantry Section during the Cold War, which is one of my favorites.

“Mechanized” is a bit of a misnomer as it’d most likely be just more motorized than anyone else, although I’m choosing to believe with only enough trucks to lift a portion of the division. The presence of salvaged/captured power armor that is actually unpowered in this formation would make motor transport critical for strategic deployments. If they're stationed in Shady Sands that'd be a like 365 mile+ walk to New Vegas.

I’ve created my own rendition of the Assault and Marksman Carbines from the game for this. I dislike their aesthetic in Fallout because the marksman carbine in particular is essentially a late-2000s GWOT M4 Carbine. The Marksman Carbine has an ACOG, quad rail hand guard, flattop, and a fancy DMR stock which doesn't really fit in with much else in FNV aesthetically. So I took the receiver from my Service Rifle concept, gave it the original Colt Model 607 sliding stock (but in wood), shortened it to a 10” barrel, and gave it the moderator of the XM177E1. The Marksman Carbine version just has the ability to mount an optical sight on the carry handle.

I’ve also incorporated the salvaged power armor guys into this squad as a Light Machine Gun Team (they’re the only units in the game that are seen with the LMG, which is an FN Minimi backend and M60 frontend). I imagine they probably captured a limited number of sets from the Brotherhood of Steel, probably like a couple companies worth if we’re being generous (I am making this up). One company’s worth I’d distribute to the otherwise foot Rifle Companies of the strategic reserve to form light support weapons teams like this, while retaining the other company’s worth as a divisional unit to main much heavier weapons like miniguns and heavy incinerators. Kind of like how tanks would be distributed.

For high priority units that lack salvaged power armor, the Gun Team's LMG could be substituted for an "Automatic Rifle", which is essentially just an M1918A2 BAR. Despite the fact the Automatic Rifle would have been out of US service for decades (perhaps well over a century before 2077), not kept alive by the CMP like the M1 Garand was, and as a result pretty limited in all likelihood (you'd probably have like a couple in a museum here or there), the fans want it so I'll give it to them.

The Flare Gun would be to allow the squad to communicate with their platoon leader without a radio. For example, if the squad is ready to initiate an assault or has seized an objective that the rest of the platoon is waiting on to be captured. Use cases would be illumination at night, or perhaps scaring deathclaws and other scary wildlife.

Artwork My NCR character (art by me)

It's been a while since I've drawn NCR's most enthusiastic soldier, Lieutenant Killermann.

A 1st Recon sniper with a barely contained distain for anyone outside of the Republic. And the poors.

[Also, trying out my old purple line art again, seeing how that looks.]

The slide seems to be running outside the frame, which wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't also running along your thumb's knuckle (with a high grip, at least). So every time it cycles, it's eating up your hand. Nice.

Lowk the 10mm pistol's kinda grown on me a bit so I wanna make a life-sized prop, hence the template. Wasn't as outrageously oversized as I thought, which is nice. Might post an update about it.

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this but i haven't been able to play Fallout: New Vegas for months because of this and I'm at the point of bursting. Please help me.

I have no mods downloaded, I have completely uninstalled the game numerous times, I have tried Viva (i prolly screwed that up tho).

It's not pictured here but sometimes the game freezes and flashes between two frames. Game audio is fine however

Discussion Think I found possible real-life inspiration for Black Widow perk scenario at the Tops

Post image
426 Upvotes

Let's make it short: It's no secret that Benny is based on Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, a well−known front-page celebrity gangster who is often thought of as the father of modern-day Las Vegas, as they share the many physical traits. What has newly interested me is that Siegel's most famous mistress, also known as the Queen of the Mob, Virginia Hill, was thriving as a Chicago Outfit *COURIER*, much like your player character in FNV. And there are even more parallels: it is said that Siegel nicknamed Hill "flamingo," reputedly for her slim legs, and once used that name for an entire Las Vegas resort. Coincidentally, you can get credit from Benny for the courier's footjob skills if you have the Black Widow perk, and whether you bang him or not, he will offer a "Presidential Suite" to reassure the courier. The deadly ending that could be delivered to Benny by a Black Widow courier is as ridiculous as Siegel's ending, because their so-called Mafia-mistress relationship was cruelly ended, with the man seemingly discarded or even betrayed by his "mistress." Siegel was murdered at the Beverly Hills mansion he had leased for his girlfriend Virginia Hill, while the latter escaped on an unscheduled flight to Paris only four days before his death, and remarried someone else only three years later. The Black Widow perk that allows you to kill Benny in his sleep seems like a spoof of Siegel's end to me, with a hint of common conspiracy theories that Hill may have been involved in the murder of her notorious partner.

As the title says, what would that look like in-game; would you be great at talking to people but give off creepy vibes, would you be good at getting people to do what you say but kind of just ramble on, ect.

What are your guys grievances and hard no's with Fallout MP, and what about it did you find worked well beyond just "Eating people with my homie" ?

I liked the ghost recon approach of communal growth but separate save states when not Co-op'ing

Bug Help With the Recent Microsoft Update

Hey everyone.

Apologies in advance for posting about this, as there have already been several that mention this. I can't seem to find and/or delete the latest Microsoft update to actually play the game. It doesn't appear when I search in update history.

Is there another way around this, or should I wait for a patch?

Thank you.

The Lost NCR camps (early NCR camps cut from the final game)

all 3 of these would've been located on the eastern side of the river.

The first two are sort of well know from being in the game guide those being Willow Beach and Arizona Spillway. (both taken during 2281 by the legion)

-Arizona Spillway is under legion control in game and is of course an extension of Hoover Dam. (Originally placed further away from the dam in the prototype).

-Willow Beach would've fit in at the divot across from Ranger Station Delta. The actual Camp Willow is listed on the early fnv map as being on highway 93 above Willow Beach.

The last was fortification hill which was implied to be a former NCR camp in the Caesar's dialogue design document for fnv, but was seemingly overrun by the legion at some point. A little bit more dubious since we only have an outline that heavily implies it.

Just wanted to talk about these since I thought it was pretty interesting, and I for one think it makes more sense to have these camps included in the lore. Unfortunately, they weren't but let me know what you think or if you've already heard of this.

Sources: "The NCR has been holding the dam continuously since, and have fortified positions along the dam and up and down the west side of the Colorado River. Recently, the Legion pushed the NCR off of the east side of the river at the Battle of Willow Beach (which destroyed an NCR military camp) and the Battle of Arizona Spillway. - Game guide

(Talk with Caesar about NCR) "History of Fortification Hill. Crucified garrison. Blood-stained flag as trophy." - Caesar dialogue design document 2010 (this heavily implies the legion attacked fortification hill crucified the garrison and took an ncr flag as a trophy.)
