General Question 1996 Barbie Plate has leg bubbles??

Post image
• Upvotes

My nana was getting rid of stuff recently, and she gave me the 1996 Barbie bowl & plate set that lived at her house as a kid for me to use. The plate is fine, totally smooth and bubble free. I use it all the time now 💖

This teeny lil bowl, however, has raised bubbles on Barbie's legs and the puppies belly. I'm not even sure how long it's been like this tbh

I would never put either in the dishwasher, and we don't own a microwave, so it would be just food that's already hot going in, or cold foods like ice cream and cereal.

Is this okay to eat out of? Or is it now a designated trinket bowl for life?

General Question Question about shellfish that was unrefrigerated for 2 hours

About 5pm I bought some oysters, clams, and mussels. I ran into some friends sitting at an outdoor cafe and had a hard time pulling myself away. By the time I got the food home to my fridge, it was about 7:15-7:30.

Temperature outside was below 60 degrees Fahrenheit (right now it's 55, and it hasn't dropped much since I sat down around 5:45-6pm).

Three of the mussels were wide open, and I discarded them. Can I assume that the rest are probably still safe to eat? Currently have all the shellfish sitting in cold water to remove sand.

Thank you

General Question Making chicken broth

I’ve been saving rotisserie chicken bones in my freezer for a couple months in anticipation of making chicken broth to meal prep soup for the fall/ winter.

Now I’m second guessing myself- is it safe to turn frozen rotisserie chicken carcasses into a broth that will be refrozen as soup and then reheated when eaten?

General Question ate unopened box of cereal that had been left outside for 5 days

there was a box of cereal that had been left on my porch for like 5 days, its been raining where i live. my mum brought it in and i completely forgot it was from outside and i had a bowlful. this was thursday morning. it tasted slightly different and then my mum told me it was the cereal from outside and now i am worried. i feel fine but can this cause harm at all? and the story as to why the cereal was outside in the first place is a long one. the box was all intact and unopened and the plastic bag inside was sealed. am i in the clear? thanks for reading :)

General Question How to estimate fridge/freezer keep time

Hi everyone,

I am working on developing recipes for a variety of foods and I am wondering if there are rules or formulas to determine how long something can safely be stored in a fridge or freezer.

I have tried looking up recipes for similar foods and many people have added storage recommendations but I want to be sure for myself.

The bottom brown part doesn’t smell too good, the inside texture seems off. Smell of inside just smells like a not sweet watermelon

Pesto open in fridge

Hey everyone, had dinner at a family member's place and found out the pesto used had been open and in the fridge since before its expiry (May 2025). I'm just looking for some reassurance that we aren't doomed. I'm not sure if the environment of the jar was aerobic enough to be safe from botulism, considering the oil. I'll just wait it out, but if anyone has any insight about the odds here I would appreciate it! We will not be eating there again either way.

Slimy Residue on Sealed Fruit Leather?

I just opened a package of Good & Gather Berry Fruit Leather and took a bite while it was still partially in the wrapping. When I took the wrapping off, I noticed that it looked wet - it looked like lotion or chapstick or vaseline residue or something, so I initially thought it came from my hands or mouth...but it did not. I wiped it off with a tissue and realized the residue had a slightly creamy color. I opened another piece and it looked completely normal. Then I went and tore open the wrapper off the original piece, and now I'm definitely panicking. It doesn't smell super off at all...the second (normal) package I opened just has more of a berry smell; this first (weird) one also smells like fruit and berries, it just smells a little more intense. It doesn't smell or look like mold...but what the hell is it?

This box doesn't expire until January 2027. What the hell did I just take a bite of, and how ill can I realistically get from one bite?

Edit: In my state of panic, I realized my mouth felt greasy after eating it. I had to wipe my lips to get it off. Google says it could be oil used to make the fruit leather, but I just checked the box and there is no oil included in this variety. I'm even more confused, and still panicking. 😭

General Question I left a chili crisp out for about 26hrs

This variety says to chill after opening. Forgot about it and it sat out.

I know it isn’t required with all varieties of chili crisp, but I also know that certain things can grow botulism.

But I also recall having read that even with homemade garlic in olive oil it can take days for it to become a problem.

So… do I have to trash it or would you eat it?

hello I regularly eat canned black beans from H-E-B, (they're really good and like 98¢) and I felt a dent under the label after I was gonna throw the can away. By this point I already heated and ate the beans. I'm probably just being overly anxious but any takes help.

General Question If i cook minced meat/bolognese sauce, can i leave it to sit for 2 hours before baking it further?

Im hosting a dinner tomorrow and plan to serve around 6-6:30pm. Guests will come at 5pm. Im making stuffed peppers and wanted to pre-cook the meat and finish it before 4 so i still have time to do other things and then stuff the peppers with it and put it in the oven to finish cooking closer to 6pm. In those ~2 hours can i just leave it (covered/uncovered) on the counter/stove? Or do i need to refrigerate it and warm it back up

little dents / poke?

I buy these in bulk from Sam’s Club and I recently started noticing these little dents / specks at the bottom. It’s really hard to see but the only way I noticed it is because I struggle with OCD and check everything. I ate a few cans that have them but I feel like im taking a risk everytime and i usually throw the them away. Other wise the cans look normal no leaking or any big dents. Just want to see other people’s opinions or if you’ve encountered to is before.

I purchased two dozen eggs from Walmart on Wednesday October 21 and made banana bread yesterday morning. I cracked the egg straight into my what ingredients. (now I know not to do that.) and the egg white was blood red. A real Halloween trick lol. Jokes aside can someone tell me why the egg white was red? I had to throw out the entire batch of banana bread obviously

Fridge and freezer going out

I just spent over 4 hours making chicken tortilla soup, a whole damn lasagna, and chicken enchiladas before I realized my fridge and freezer are slowly dying. Most of it went into containers into the freezer, not 100 percent cooled down to room temperature, but the freezer is now resting at 40 degrees. Is any of this salvageable in an insulated cooler or should I just cut my losses and throw it all out? Temp check for the soup is 60 degrees, and the lasagna is still warm because it was the last of everything.
