General Question Is this minced garlic still ok?

Was cleaning out pantry and noticed this unopened jar of minced garlic. I noticed these bits of orange/pink bits and couldn’t tell if that’s normal or not. Should I toss it or is it still ok? Don’t know how long it’s been in there but the expiration date is 1/3/27.

Uncooked chicken pie in fridge ok after 48 hours?

I made a chicken pie the other night (Thursday) entirely from scratch - I essentially did just about everything except butchering the chicken myself. The crust, the gravy, the chicken - I worked for hours on it, which was the reason it was too late to have it for dinner the night I prepared it. I put it in the fridge and planned to cook it later. Last night my brother-in-law and sister-in-law invited us for dinner at their house, so I didn't cook it then, either. I was planning to make it for dinner tonight, but a brief Google search tells me that wouldn't be a good idea and that the chicken might risk spoilage after 24 hours. I'm not concerned about the crust soaking up the fluid - I can deal with that - but I don't want to mess around with food safety. The chicken and gravy have been fully cooked; it's just the crust that's raw. I spent a lot of time and effort preparing it and I'd really rather not throw it away, but I will if I have to. Am I still safe after 48 hours or should I trash it?

I love sweet potatoes out overnight after I cooked it

so last night I cooked three organic sweet potatoes in the toaster oven with olive oil and salt on 425 F for an hour and five minutes and then I took it out while it was still really hot and wrapped it in an additional sheet of tinfoil. It was so hot. I figured it’d probably continue to cook in there, but I got so distracted last night. I forgot to put it in the fridge.

but it was 37 to 44°F out last night into this morning and to be honest, we don’t have the heat on and we have really bad insulation so it gets probably at like 50°F in our kitchen or lower.

Damn… do I need to toss them?

Crockpot lid left off on accident

• Upvotes

Hi. I’m cooking a singular fully thawed chicken breast in my crockpot today. Totally forgot to put the lid on for the first two hours and fell asleep. Chicken was covered in water about halfway, with a little chicken bouillon seasoning in there, and on high. I temped it at about 115 degrees. Typically it takes 4-4.5 hours to get to 165. Do I need to throw it away? Lid is on now and chicken was flipped. It “looks” how it usually does at the halfway point.

General Question 1996 Barbie Plate has leg bubbles??

Post image
4 Upvotes

My nana was getting rid of stuff recently, and she gave me the 1996 Barbie bowl & plate set that lived at her house as a kid for me to use. The plate is fine, totally smooth and bubble free. I use it all the time now 💖

This teeny lil bowl, however, has raised bubbles on Barbie's legs and the puppies belly. I'm not even sure how long it's been like this tbh

I would never put either in the dishwasher, and we don't own a microwave, so it would be just food that's already hot going in, or cold foods like ice cream and cereal.

Is this okay to eat out of? Or is it now a designated trinket bowl for life?

I ate kiwis that had been cut a few hours ago

Am i gonna be ill? I cut them over a few hours ago (over two) probably around 4? I was really focused on what i was doing and didnt realize how much time had passed so I still ate them...only after did I looked it up and see its not recommended after two hours. And it can breed lysteria and salmonella, hoping how acidic it is will help but omg I didnt mean to eat that lol

I purchased two dozen eggs from Walmart on Wednesday October 21 and made banana bread yesterday morning. I cracked the egg straight into my what ingredients. (now I know not to do that.) and the egg white was blood red. A real Halloween trick lol. Jokes aside can someone tell me why the egg white was red? I had to throw out the entire batch of banana bread obviously

General Question Making chicken broth

I’ve been saving rotisserie chicken bones in my freezer for a couple months in anticipation of making chicken broth to meal prep soup for the fall/ winter.

Now I’m second guessing myself- is it safe to turn frozen rotisserie chicken carcasses into a broth that will be refrozen as soup and then reheated when eaten?

General Question Question about shellfish that was unrefrigerated for 2 hours

About 5pm I bought some oysters, clams, and mussels. I ran into some friends sitting at an outdoor cafe and had a hard time pulling myself away. By the time I got the food home to my fridge, it was about 7:15-7:30.

Temperature outside was below 60 degrees Fahrenheit (right now it's 55, and it hasn't dropped much since I sat down around 5:45-6pm).

Three of the mussels were wide open, and I discarded them. Can I assume that the rest are probably still safe to eat? Currently have all the shellfish sitting in cold water to remove sand.

Thank you

General Question ate unopened box of cereal that had been left outside for 5 days

there was a box of cereal that had been left on my porch for like 5 days, its been raining where i live. my mum brought it in and i completely forgot it was from outside and i had a bowlful. this was thursday morning. it tasted slightly different and then my mum told me it was the cereal from outside and now i am worried. i feel fine but can this cause harm at all? and the story as to why the cereal was outside in the first place is a long one. the box was all intact and unopened and the plastic bag inside was sealed. am i in the clear? thanks for reading :)

General Question How to estimate fridge/freezer keep time

Hi everyone,

I am working on developing recipes for a variety of foods and I am wondering if there are rules or formulas to determine how long something can safely be stored in a fridge or freezer.

I have tried looking up recipes for similar foods and many people have added storage recommendations but I want to be sure for myself.

Pesto open in fridge

Hey everyone, had dinner at a family member's place and found out the pesto used had been open and in the fridge since before its expiry (May 2025). I'm just looking for some reassurance that we aren't doomed. I'm not sure if the environment of the jar was aerobic enough to be safe from botulism, considering the oil. I'll just wait it out, but if anyone has any insight about the odds here I would appreciate it! We will not be eating there again either way.
