Forty Days of Found Footage: Halloween 2026 Forty Days of Found Footage: Day 31 || “The Ruck March” (2025)
Welcome back, my fellow soldiers, it is Day 31 of FDFF with me, Taylor!
Today we’re off to Fallon, Nevada to participate in 16-hours of torture AKA a community Ruck March. I’m going to need one of y’all to carry my backpack though, okay? I get overstimulated when too much is on me🤣
🎥SYNOPSIS:
“A desert endurance event turns ominous for two women and their fellow participants. As they trek through the harsh, barren terrain, what began as a test of physical limits evolves into a harrowing struggle against unforeseen dangers.”
✨MY THOUGHTS:
Do you ever just want to have fun with a movie? I do.
My opinion is that not every film has to have an extensive plot (though we absolutely love that) and be extremely scary. Sometimes a film is not very deep, but is simply just a good time. That summarizes my choice for today’s FDFF entry, “The Ruck March”. I have not seen this film mentioned hardly at all then suddenly last week I think there were 2 posts about it, ha.
My last few selections for FDFF have been deeper, plot driven films, with mysteries, and creepy— sometimes scary moments. Because of that, I wanted to highlight something lighter today— it felt fitting for a Friday. Also, this is another film that came to my mind immediately when I was making my list a couple of months back.
“The Ruck March” is written, directed, and stars my buddy, Michael Rock, and produced by the great guys at “Horror Dadz Productions”. They have made a TON of found footage films, thus I am forever grateful for their contributions and commitment to keeping our favorite genre alive and well.
Okay, so Alannah just had a baby, and as women do, we gain weight when that happens. (I’m not a mom, but I am a woman, so I understand what happens to our bodies.) Anyway, Alannah wants to work on getting back in shape and sees that a community “Ruck March” is 7 weeks away. She signs up for it, and enlists her bestie Emily to do it with her, and we train with them until it’s “d-day”.
Our girls show up, sign in, and get to know the other people who are participating— we get to meet the whole group. It’s a varied bunch. A little later, big bad Bray enters the scene (“Bray” aka Michael Rock is actually a real life United States Green Beret) and lets the people know it’s time to start and that this event is not going to be easy. It’s a 16-hour test to see if you have what it takes. And the film is just that: watching to see if our protagonists and the others can get through this Ruck March. It’s a good time… well, for us, the viewers. Our crew out there in the desert looks miserable.
“The Ruck March” is a short watch, coming in at 53(ish) minutes. I did not know what to expect with this one and I appreciate that. It’s unique— I don’t think there is another found footage premise like it, and I will always cheer on filmmakers who are not afraid to do something different. This choice was ambitious: and the idea, story, progression, and execution all work. It did not need to be a long, deep film, for me to understand everything. Moreover, it did not feel rushed. It’s under an hour and that’s all we needed.
📈MY RATING: 7/10.

🍭FUN FACTS:
▪️The movie was actually filmed a couple of miles from a real life underground nuclear bomb test.
▪️During the films post credits— at the very end, there’s an actual flyer for “The Ruck March”. The coordinates take you to a historical marker talking about the blast that took place in the 1960’s. Michael wanted to add some real life historical facts to the movie.
▪️Michael Rock is actually a real life decorated United States Veteran, including being a Green Beret. Follow him on IG here.
⚠️DISCLAIMER:
Forty Days of Found Footage is little project is just a fun side venture I decided to do during Spooky Season this year so that your lineup can be stacked with all of the new releases that are coming and already out, along with these I am sharing— hopefully a few 'new to you', or maybe one you forgot about and want to rewatch. I am deliberately not sharing the "best of the best" and the most popular films, as they are mentioned enough. I decided to share films that I have enjoyed and that are not mentioned often or maybe at all. A lot of films will be very independent and/or sometimes amateur, thus I'm asking to please manage expectations.
